I did see manual batteries for the 901, can't recall where it was that I saw them. But they will be around soon to be on most sites I would expect. I think everything will have the manual battery offered soon.

Rocky Mountain, EastMall and Ruyan all have them now. But the one poster doesn't want anything that looks different than a cigarette so a manual battery would not work for him.

Only trying a few devices doesn't add much from a comparison stand point.

The clue is in the thread title - "510 vs 901" not "901 vs everything else".
Sheesh...

I've been thinking about getting a 510 and possibly an SD adaptor for it but having just read the OP's helpful review, I don't think I'll bother now.

Now this is what I have been waiting for!!

As someone who has used the 901 with both automatic and manual batteries, can you elaborate a little bit on exactly what kinds of differences you are experiencing?

My guess is you are getting more vapor, more throat hit, and less flavor.

Actually, the flavor is about the same, as is throat hit. The vapor seems to be denser because I can now control the atty. It's only been a few days, but I got the technique down of switching the atty on a moment before I draw and then letting it run for 3-4 seconds, releasing the switch and then finishing the draw. It sounds complex but after a few hours it becomes second nature.
I will say that I definitely won't be ordering any more auto batteries.
I really think that this was the missing piece of the puzzle, and why so many people love the 510 or mods like the screwdriver.

So you're saying the flavor and throat hit are not affected by using the manual batteries?
But the vapor is denser, in spite of no other noticeable changes?

That makes no sense to me on an intellectual level, but I'll see what I can make of it.

If you don't want ones with more power but instead want one that looks like the real thing and thus no manual battery either, then YOU DON'T want one that last's a long time or has a good hit. You can't have it both ways. Either appearance is most important to you or performance is. I would suggest you get a Blu or a SmokeEverywhere RN4081 or a DSE084 super mini. These look the closes to the real thing.

Then do us all a favor. Report back to us how you like the performance. But for sure you will look "cool", kinda like smoking a cigarette.

My favorite is the kr808 (cigeasy, Nebula, VK, DPV9, etc.) Batteries and carts last a long time, great vapor, good throat hit, and a sleek look. What more could you want?

Besides cheaper of course

The only mod I would consider is the one Drew at Nhaler is coming out with that fits the cartomizers standard, as well as adapters available for 3 piece models. Oh yeah, and adjustable voltage and airflow.

:) It's hard to describe, but after you use a manual it will make more sense.
I've given it some thought and what I think is happening is that the amount of air you're drawing in is no longer coupled to keeping the auto switch turned on, so you can keep the atty activated while drawing only a small, very dense cloud of vapor in. Changing the vapor/air ratio while not really affecting flavor/throat hit.

i posted this in the other 510 vs 901 thread....

i'm been vaping on a 510 for months. it was my first and only ecig, until i got my 901 last night. after vaping on my new 901 for a few hours, i've noticed that i get very inconsistent vapor. sometimes i'll get just as much vapor as i get with my 510, and sometimes i'll get next to nothing. it seems to help if i bang the 901 on my leg to get the juice down near the atomizer so it can vaporize. i never had to do this with my 510. i've also noticed that the 901 goes through juice much faster than my 510, which seems to be contrary to what most folks say.

that being said, i like how the 901's atomizer doesn't get as hot as the 510's and i can taste the liquid a little better with the 901. since i got the a great deal on my 901 (starter kit + 15 blanks + extra atomizer for $48 shipped), i don't regret my purchase. i just don't think it'll replace my 510 as my main workhorse ecig.

my 901 has been a little more consistent since then, and i'm enjoying it more now. but it seems like the carts don't wick the liquid properly for some reason, and that's why i thought it was going through liquid faster. it just wasn't wicking the liquid to the atomizer. what's the best mod to remedy this?

I completely agree. With that being said though, I'm not a big fan of any cartridges. IMO, the only way to use e-cigs is to drip.

It's not recommended to drip with automatic batteries, but if you're able to take the 30 seconds to maintain your e-cig you'll be fine. Check the batt/atty contacts and make sure liquid isn't falling into the battery.

...why? You didn't include any information to suggest why you like the 510 more! Get back to us

thanks... i've tried that and it didn't seem to help much, but i'm gonna find a coffee straw with a bigger hole and try again.

dripping is fun occasionally, but i like using carts personally. i'll figure out a way to make this thing wick better. i'll go all macgyver on its ....

I'm not going to read this whole thread but you answered your own question.............vapor is harsh, That's what get's people off analoques. and manual batts(do the math). 11 weeks in I will p.m. u the minute my first atomizer dies.
Ditto in not taking the time to read the whole thread, but will put in my 2cents anyway.

I agree with happily. Throat hit! there's none on the 901. The 510 has it, and it makes the difference that satisfies my urges. For all their consistency, the 901 is missing this, and isn't enough to keep me completely off cigarettes.

My last post wasn't completely honest! For a short while I was using the straw mod with success. Maybe 2-3 days? It helps to hold your cart at an angle so the liquid runs down the side... not sure if that was covered or not in the link posted. After an 11 hour shift, I'm too tired to read something that won't benefit me :|

Use the "Thermometer Method" which is also known as the "Windmill Method".
Just use the search function to read up on it.

It has allowed me to go back to cartridges instead of having to drip.
