I was a long long time completely quitting cigarettes, perhaps three years. The last six months of using both, I had two cigarettes in the morning. One day about four years ago, I realized that I had not smoked in several days and haven't since. Churchill: Never, never, never, never give up.

It isn't easy (for me) but I think i can do it finally.

I hear a lot of folks have heartburn symptoms with high VG.

That makes sense since i actually do like the dekang juice. More pg than vg. Some of the flavors are worse than others. But other than the dekang energy cow, it's mad vapes house brand that use. Doesn't look like they make their juice anymore.

So, the dragon you're chasing sounds similar to the one I've caught. Thick clouds are a prime concern of mine. Not necessarily room-filling fog machines, but some texture on the exhale. You might have to go direct lung, sub-ohm, a single coil at .5 does me just fine. I also mix my own juice, mostly unflavored, with high VG (70% or so) and just enough nic for the throat hit - you might want to start at 6mg.

Wish someone had told me that when I was so frustrated with mtl when starting out. Know starting with dtl is not for everyone, but for some of us it is what works.

I'm not much of a cloud chaser at all. It is kinda cool. But not what i'm striving for. What you're describing is more what i'm shooting at.

First and foremost, THIS! Back in the day Trustfire batteries were all we had to choose from. Battery technology has exploded (excuse the pun) since then. Trustfire batteries have always been bad for all the reasons that Topwater Elvis said. ICR batteries are no longer recommended for vaping devices. Throw those Trustfires away. Please educate yourself on what batteries to use.

IMHO, finding a flavor that you don't mind using every day is probably the toughest endeavor on anyone's vaping journey. I personally never liked tobacco flavored e-liquid, so I can't really help you with this one. If there is a vape shop that allows flavor testing, it might be worth a day's trip to try a lot of different flavors before buying.

I don't think there is a tank of any kind that allows you to drip after it has run dry. You may want to look into a Bottom Feeder mod. Also known as a "squonker". You sorta drip "upside down".

These are box mods (either mechanical or regulated) which contain a refillable juice bottle inside the mod. The body has a window that exposes the bottle that allows you to manually press to feed your e-liquid into the drip atomizer. You vape until the atomizer needs more juice and then "squonk" more juice into it. These devices use special rebuildable drip atomizers which can connect to the juice feeding system.

This is about the closest you'll find of having a "tank" that you can drip.

Sounds like you are more of a deep-lung (DL) inhaler and not a mouth-to-lung (MTL) inhaler. Most tanks are designed to be one or the other, but a few can be adjusted to do both with an air control ring or by changing the drip tip (mouthpiece) to either a small bore or large bore.

I am more of a DL inhaler, but occassionally I like to MTL. I use an original Uwell Crown clearomizer tank.
Authentic Uwell Crown Sub Ohm Tank Clearomizer . Technically it is a sub-ohm tank, but you don't have to sub-ohm with it. It has 1.2 ohm coils available for it . It is an easy top fill (4ml capacity). It has a ratcheted air control ring which allows wide open direct lung draws down to a tight mouth-to-lung draw. It has a wide bore mouthpiece, but you can always replace it with any inexpensive small bore mouthpiece if you desire. Great flavor, a lot of vapor.

I think it is the most versatile tank on the market.

Mechs are not all that simple. You can't adjust the vape easily on a mech. As the battery drains, the vape is going to drop off.

There are far more advantages to using a regulated mod over a mechanical. First, you can adjust your vapor on the fly. Lower wattage earlier in the day, higher wattage later in the day if you so desire. Regulated mods have a chipset which keeps your vape the same from the beginning of the battery until it needs to be changed. And lastly, regulated mods have safety circuitry to prevent over-discharge of the battery and protect against short circuits. You can turn the mod off when you carry it in your pocket, a very important safety practice.

Agree. Being tobacco-free for almost 7 years now, I can smell a smoker from about three feet away. Their clothes stink, their hair stinks, THEY STINK. You can't cover it up with cologne or perfume.
Agree.
I had a friend who quit smoking using this. She put the contents of an ashtry into a baby food jar along with some water. Every time she desired a cigarette, she opened the jar and took a couple of good whiffs.

Sorry for the long post but you did ask a lot of important questions. You have been given excellent information and a lot of choices to consider. Good luck.

my whole family smokes. So I'll never completely escape smelling like smoke at least part of the time.

I never had an issue with using a mech or even the one i made. Vape on it all day pretty heavily, then switch the battery at night time. Every couple days just check the batt with my multimeter to see if it's still healthy. Even for it being a little ugly, people were pretty impressed with my home made copper one.

It does sound like a regulated device might be better. However, I may spend too much time playing with it rather than use it. Also why I like the mechanical ones. They only work one way.

The nautilus is the most successful, popular mtl, drop in coil tank , in the past few years....the coils they use are regarded as some of the best around for mtl . The nautilus 2 is fairly new and gives you top fill and more airflow options and an option for sub ohm if you like

do the coils last a good amount of time that outweigh the cost. I've been looking at the rebuildable ones because I already have a muiltimeter and stuff to make them.

Have you thought about making your own juice?

You can have total control over what works. There are great flavor concentrates out there.

Hangsen concentrates are really close to Dekang ejuice. I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't the same company.

Oh , I'm a rebuildable guy 100 percent, in fact, in my 7 years of vaping, I have never vaped anything but rebuildables (except a cig a like, the first few months I started) I'm big on mtl rebuildable rtas...I just mentioned the nautilus because alot just like the convenience of drop ins and the nautilus always rated one of the best....honestly I don't understand why more don't rebuild, because it takes about the same time to thread in a new wick then it does a drop in coil....but until your able to just thread in a new wick that fast, there is a learning curve to every rta...wicking at first is the trickiest part, and getting the right density within the coil and the proper amounts in the channels does take some time to master. ..but once you figure it out, it is a snap...the coil is easy, once you make one, it can last for months, so you can spin up a few and your good for a year...plus a rebuildable rta provides a superior vape....you are mtl, right?

Buddy of mine in the same situation a year or so ago. Right now he's squonking with his icon rda and vaping element's tobacco ns20.

He swears by his setup and hasn't went back to smokes since. Loves the rba flavour with the premade coils he gets, squonking gives him the "tank" of juice (he even got one of those geekvape juice flask refill thingymabobs) and the ns20 gives the hit in a more comfortable way.

I didn't completely quit smoking until I found the magic of direct lung vaping. The lungs full of thick vapor and all that flavor on a long, slow exhale through the nose and mouth... mmm.

I concluded that for me, throat hit was overrated.

The other thing that made a huge difference was the decision to stop buying cigarettes. No one else in my family smokes and only a few in my social circle are smokers. So for me, that was easier. But you can't smoke'em if ya ain't got'em.

I've been into a couple and they weren't real helpful. They were pretty much kids who were hipster cloud chasers interested in geeking out with me rather than helping. I know if i go to lower ohm coil, i'll have to go lower on the nic. i vape on 18-24 mg usually.
I don't know where you are in Denver, but Vapor Leaf in Lakewood had a good assortment of tanks and mods when I was in there over the summer. I got there early in the morning, and met a nice guy that seemed willing to talk about something other than Cloudz. By the time I left, other customers and staff were there and it was starting to get a bit foggy.

I've ordered from VapeShop located in Castle Rock, but never been in their store. If they are close, it might be worth a trip to see what the store is like and talk to the people. I've been happy with their mail order, and they will discount future orders if you make an account and keep buying from them.

My preferred tank is the Nautilus X with a 1.8 ohm coil. I'm pretty much MTL, but will use the Melo III from the Pico 75W mod kit when I want to subohm. The Nautilus X also has a quad flex survivor kit that allows you to make different styles of tanks out of the parts. The Nauti X is a love it/hate it tank from what I've seen here on ECF.

The Pico is a nice little mod that will let you do a range of watts, but limits you to the 22mm tank because of the battery cap.

Do you have any of your old gear that still works? It might be worth finding a flexible mod that you like and then a couple of different tanks to try both DTL and MTL vaping to see what works with your mood and juices. If you do start vaping more than smoking, you may find that your taste in juice changes as your body adjusts and heals from the smoking. You can always cut your higher mg juices with PG/VG if you need something with lower nic after a while.

    Good luck with your journey.

FWIW, I have a GeekVape Ammit 25 RTA(tank) and run 1.4 ohm coils that I build at around 16 watts. I close the air flow down alot and have changed the drip tip to a smaller ID and taller one.
this tank fits in well with my Nautilus minis.

hope this gives you some thought ammo

That sounds like what my brother describes that he misses about smoking.

But, he tried the original subtank and couldn't handle it. What I finally found that made him happy is the Joyetech Ego One V2 tank with CLR coils. The only problem he has with it is that he gets enough vapor with it that he needs to adjust his percentages to reduce the throat hit.

I love, love, love the CLR coils! Enough vapor for a fair lung hit, but light enough for a MTL vaper too.

First & foremost, the trustfire batteries have no place in vaping, very low quality, exaggerated amp & mah claims, horrendous voltage sag under load, many are protected cells of the wrong chemistry for vaping use.
So if you were using them in a mech even with a 1.8 resistance you never once got a 'full power' hit / a vape
    representative of what could be.

I fully believe a regulated power device makes all the difference, ability to adjust power output depending on dozens of variables, heat, flavors, resistance, mood or whim to name a few.

Hard to give power or delivery device reccomendations because everything about vaping is a matter of personal preferences. Sounds as if your preference is cigarettes.

For some folks kicking the smokes is not at all easy, it takes a huge amount of willpower & a real desire to quit.
I dual used for 11 months prior to joining this forum, I would've never quit smoking unless I forced myself to.
So I picked a date & said to myself from this day forward no more.
The first 3 months was at times a living hell & that was with excellent equipment & eliquids I enjoyed.
For some folks leaving the smokes behind is a major chore.

    My last cigarette was 12 / 24 2012 at 11:55 pm.
I still miss them frequently, every day without is a win.

    Happy Anniversary

I've had 2 solid 8/10 women who after a couple weeks leave because of the cigs. It's time to give them up.

You just need to find some 8's or 9's who like to smoke, bro.

First up is juice. I get heartburn pretty bad and a lot of the non tobacco flavors make it worse. I like them once in a while (I'm not real big on a lot of the flavors) but the tobacco ones don't suck as much for me to vape on the daily. The chinese stuff (like dekang or similar) actually works the best with me. Having trouble finding 50ml+ bottles of tobacco flavors in the US on the cheap.

Dekang? Dude, you're living in like 2013.

Second might be sort of a dumb. I do like dripping but when I'm on the go or not just sitting and relaxing I like a tank. I'm looking at the rebuildable ones but they all say sub ohm. Do i have to use them at less than 1 ohm? Around 1.8 ohms is what I seem to like. Are the RTDA able to vape the tank part dry and still drip if I want to? Sounds like the best of both worlds.

Do you like to "lung hit" (like smoking a doobster) or do you prefer a cigarette draw?

Third is probably the most important as to why I can vape and be mostly happy but it's not 100 percent satisfying. I apologize if this makes anyone wanna light up. If i'm smoking and deep in thought or whatever, I can take a drag, inhale fairly deeply, hold it for a hot second, exhale slowly. feeling and seeing the smoke leaving my lungs. That's the dragon I'm chasing.

Doesn't bother me. I smoked 2 PAD for 20 years. I haven't touched a cig in years since I started vaping. In the early days it was hard because vape gear sucked, but in the past couple years it has become good enough that anyone should be able to be satisfied. Not every former smoker prefers mouth to lung. Lots of us are only satisfied with huge lung hits and clouds. So, again, it is going to depend on how you like to vape before any advice can be given. It sounds to me like you've used some crappy gear in the past.

But if I had to give advice I'd say buy a decent dual battery mod with a subohm tank like the Crown 3. Give that a shot and see if it satisfies you. If it's "too much" vapor and too much power (100-150 watt vaping), you can always move down to a smaller subohm tank or a MTL rebuildable.

I have a few 18650 trust fire batts so i'd like to keep using those.

Please don't if you want to keep your face intact.

You have already gotten a lot of advice about hardware, so I won't chip in my two cents on that. However, here are a couple of things that have allowed me to reduce since August from 25/30 analogs per day to 2 per day.

    1) Even when I lost control a couple of times, I still kept vaping. This helped me get back on track fast; my falls from the wagon never lasted more than 24/48 hrs.
    2) In mid-September I bought a small pocket notebook and began writing down the time of each cigarette before I lit up. This forced me to think about what I was doing. I realized that many cigarettes I smoked were completely mindless. I still write down the time of each cigarette to this day. But there are a lot fewer entries.
    3) Psychologically, it has been easier for me to tell myself I am just reducing even if I eventually 'reduce' to zero. Everyone is different and a lot of members here will probably disagree with this one, but it is working for me.
    4) Make sure you have enough nicotine in your juice.
    5) Finally, I have found it helpful to visit ecf regularly and to post if I can think of anything relevant to say. Doing this helps me affirm my commitment.

In any event, don't give up!

Once I noticed a pack was lasting 2 days I started putting down how many cigs I smoked each day. It felt great to see that number get lower and lower. I got stuck on one or two a day for over a month, finally decided to not buy another pack. Was very hard the first few mornings. Just vaped my way thru it. Every time I woke up I had forgotten there was no cig waiting for me. That was when I realized vaping was a tool and not a cure. Haven't had a cig in 2.5 years now.

No, not yet. Beginning to worry a bit, but not enough to smoke over it :) It's coming from China.

7 days, 15 cigarettes. Confession, I smoked 3 on Thurs. I have been 3 or less, mainly 2, for the last 12 days. It has not been a problem at all.
