I wouldn't use anything LR with a 5V PT. I always used either SR or HV atties. I've heard that the DC cartos work pretty well with 5V devices.

I would also recommend getting a wall adapter for your new PT, instead of plugging it into your computer.

I would like to take your advice on the wall adaptor but I have yet to find one that is rated specifically for 5V ( not really sure on this one as the AC USB adaptor I have says the output is DC5V-500mA) but I have heard that this is not sufficent for actual 5V vaping?

I use 3.0 ohms at true 5 v (on a mod). High 2.x (like 2.8) is probably OK. Many 5v PT don't run enough amps through a USB cord anyway due to resistance of the cord. However, I wouldn't use a computer USB port. Why? No USB standards support 2.0 amps that I know of.

So.... 2.0 amp or better AC USB adapter. The higher, the better, particularly with DCs. USB is a 5 v standard. It's the amps that count
here.

That's 2.0 amp. Find 3.0 or better somewhere if you want DCs (assuming the PT will support it) IDK why anyone wants DCs at 5 volt since it is basically like vaping two 3.0 ohm atties at 5 volts... one is plenty for me. But that's me. You need 5 v to make em work well, or so I hear.

1: should I NOT use a LR carto with this? I run 2.0's on my Riva 510, should I pick up a pack of 2.5's?

No, you don't need too plus they may damage the switch. You need to go with regular resistance of 2.8ohm or higher.

2: will this 5V passthru run directly off my PC with no issues?

Do not run it off your PC as it can internally damage it. Go to madvapes.com and get a 2 amp wall charger.

Demon72 (sir or Ms.?) just to add to what everyone else has said, there are usb ports on certain mobos (usually the ones that are referred to as the front side usb ports, the ones you connect to the case, not hard wired on the mobo itself). The problem you run into is that if your psu doesn't have enough amps on the 5v line, you won't be able to power the pt, or put the psu at risk, and can tell you from experience that when it goes down it usually takes other components with it.... Wall wart or a powered usb hub is the safer choice.

I am a guy, thanks for asking! }:)> I run a corsair 750w psu.... its 3amp on the 5volt so I think I am safe there ... and its oversized for the mobo/cpu/gpu that I run ... just unsure if the case USB will provide the 2a needed

I want to chime in to mention that the standard allowable amperage to usb2 ports on most motherboards is only 500mA and to usb3 is 900mA. Even with Gigabyte's newer 3x usb power motherboards, the usb2 ports only allow 1500mA; however, their 3x powered usb3 ports allow up to 2700mA. :matrix: :vapor: AFAIK, Gigabyte's newer mobos are the only ones with this capability. I have a Gigabyte GA-Z68-UD3H-B3 mobo and utilize one of it's triple powered usb3 ports for 5V vaping with no problems. YMMV.

I run a custom built gaming machine (I play Eve Online, WoW and a few other PC games) and there's no way that I'd run a 5V PT on it. I tried it once and my machine got a blue screen and then shut down.

And no, that's not my review on the site for that USB wall hub. I didn't even know there was a review there!

thats good to know... Im sure your PSU is up to par? I definately dont want my vape to give me a bsod!

yea theres a review on that wall charger from an esmoker.... 1st review I saw on it.... kinda funny huh

That a standard 780i or ftw Demon72 sir? Alot more run off the 5v line than you might think. Why the mobo has a 5v line in on the mobo psu connection.

QBass (sir or Ms.?) evga's ftw and classified series provide up to 1.5a on two of the back ports, but on the front side they will put out up to 2.4a if only one item is plugged in and there's enough available amps on the 5v line. The moment you add something on the other port, drops to max 1.5 on the top port.
