So I decided to make my first mod, and in homage to my 1980's childhood I went with a familiar housing.

Snagged a micro switch, 510 connector, and a 2xAAA box.

Busted out the Dremel and made this tonight.

Shot from the back. Yes the battery box sticks out just a hair, I gotta change them don't I?

From the back, batteries exposed. (2) Trustfire 10440's in parallel.

Micro switch is recessed into the original cord hole.

Since I didn't add a master switch (I know I'm vapin dangerous here) by putting the push button below the surface I can't fire it off in my pocket. The tiny grey button is originally what sits behind the A button and acts as the spring for it, I just used it as a tiny extension for the micro switch.

Very nicely done !! quick half turn un-screw of the carto - instant master switch :)

Being a child of the 60's guess I have to do a regulated mod with vacuum tubes

:offtopic:
Hmmmm....wonder if you could make an imitation vacuum tube mod from a polycarbonate tube. I couldn't ;), but I wonder.... :D

@Shadow102:
I was about to yell "Sacrilege!!!", but then I noticed it was an aftermarket controller (no Ninty logo, whew!)!
That thing is the coolest ever!
Just imagine adding an LED voltage readout over the BA buttons and a digital potentiometer connected to the D-pad so you could dial in your preferred voltage, use the select button for choosing "time presets" and the start button to engage said presets for one touch automatically timed hits that also play the 1up sound sample from Super Mario Bros.!
Sorry about that.
A geek can dream, right? LOL
Great mod Shadow102; may the triforce be with you, always!

Whoa, dude! That would be amazing with an orange LED simulating the glowing filament -or maybe the atty coil could play that part!

I can appreciate the Sacrilege exclamation, but yeah I went with an aftermarket one, ebay $6.00 for a 2 pack, also picked up some SNES aftermarkets for $0.99, thinking of doing one of them with the carto recessed and using either the L or R button for the trigger and "thinning" a couple of the other buttons so I can run LED's inside them and have them light up. Now if I can just find a rocker switch small enough to use for the master on off and mount it behind the D-pad I'd be golden.

Now all the goodies you mentioned would be pretty sweet on that, but would involve mounting the battery box completely outside the unit I believe, that and some of the electronics involved are beyond my skill level. We always remember them being kinda big and bulk, but NES controllers are only 2/3 of an inch thick. Now an N64 controller you might be able to smash it all inside, but really, nobody liked playing games with those, who'd want to vape off it?

Now, if only I could figure a safe way to do series-parallel charging onboard and I'd be starting on the next gaming inspired mod.
