I purchased replacement atomizers for my 901, I noticed a burnt metal taste. I ordered these from a different company from where I purchased my kit. I peeked inside and there is a mesh bridge inside instead of just a wick poking up like the one I got with my kit.
It seems I have to really take a draw on it to work right, and when I do I get a very bad burned taste. Someone told me to drip some vodka in it , blow it out and then draw and get it nice and hot to burn the taste off. It is still not working. Anything else that I can do?
I have not had a problem with my original and would like to get more of those, but the supplier I bought it from is charging 20.00 just for an atomizer. Any suppliers that sell the style I want?

Most likely it is the shipping/primer fluid that manufacturers use for keeping the atomizer from drying out. The 'nastiness' of taste can vary from atomizer to atomizer, even from the same vendor.

It is best to do as little as needed but sometimes the 'light treatment' just doesn't get it done. This is what I do when I get a new atty.

1. Blow it out from the battery end by mouth into a paper towel at the cartridge end until there is no more wetness - I'll usually take a Qtip and then wipe the inside of the atomizer chamber - careful not to disturb the 'bridge'/wick/metal mesh. And try it - if I'm still getting a strong taste...

2. Put the atomizer in 151 clear, unflavored Vodka (I use 'Galen's') and let it sit for 10 minutes - blow it out as above, let dry, put two drops of ejuice on the bridge and try it. If STILL nasty, I'll soak the atty for a 1/2 hour and that always eliminates the bad taste of primer.

That said, there have been some reports on atomizers continuing the bad taste after cleaning, and there is someone here - Sun Vaporer - looking into this. However, one will get a nasty taste IF one runs out of ejuice or if the ejuice isn't wicking onto the atomizer from the cartridge - iow, whenever the atomizer gets dry. In many cases, this is the cause of the nastiness and one either has to add juice or try some different cartridge modifications to where the ejuice wicks better onto the atomizer.

There is also the case where the crud around the coil in the atomizer gets so built up to where it is burning and causing a nasty burnt taste - different than the 'dry atomizer' or primer fluid taste. Since you're experiencing this with new atomizers, chances are this is not the case with yours.
