The 15th birthday contest thread and its trip down memory lane resulted in me spending an hour reading some old threads I had participated in.

This counter doo-hickey site which basically duplicates what many of us have in our signatures is one of the many things I found. We Vape - Global Money Saved/Cigarettes Avoided Calculator Still running after all these years and updating the totals of all 3014 people who entered data. Scroll to the very bottom, 93 MILLION dollars!

No wonder the evil (expletives deleted) hate vaping so much! 3014 is a drop in the bucket of ECF members, and such a tiny percentage of total vapers my mind can not grasp how tiny.

Oh, I'm almost to $30,000 and the wife is at $21,000. Had to switch to a different sig because the one with $ totals was too wide.

I like this!!!

Combined savings here, for two people in Stamford, CT (pricey cigs) is $101,733.68 (to this minute with cig price changes "somewhat" tracked). We've spent 33% on vape that we would have if we were still smoking.

The big difference is with the vape expenditures, I could never spend another penny and still would be vaping for life.

If smoking, I'd be running out to spend more tomorrow (via buying packs for the day).

Crazy. Absolutely CRAZY. To paraphrase Rick James, "Tobacco is a helluva drug."

Amazing! Yes, I used to have a banner that constantly calculated how much I was saving but ECF stopped running those particular banners. The savings were stunning and also served as a motivator in helping me stay off the cigs in the beginning. Glad all that money people are saving is no longer going to those :censored: s. :)

When I quit, a little over 2 years ago, I spent $26 a day on cigarettes. As far as I know, cigarettes haven't gotten cheaper since then.
I spent 40 years as a tobacco user, now I don't look at those years as a waste of money, I see the last two years as a victory more than I threw away the other 40 years.

I made my own 'vape counter' using the PHP programming language. So far I've only not spent a bit over 17 grand. The page is in my sig or the actual URL is Southern Maryland Computerguy if one has sig display turned off.

I didn't know, or I just probably forgot, that you guys were in Stamford. I was born in Bridgeport, and grew up in Sandy Hook.

At my 'time of quitting', I was paying 6 bucks for a pack of smokes. 4 or so years later I stopped in a local conv. store and discovered that I would be paying 8 bucks a pack.. I'm sure the price has increased yet again, but it is no concern of mine..

When I was in the Navy back in the early 80's, the ship I was on pulled into Norway for a few days. We were told that a pack of cigarettes cost about $5. We thought that was outrageous, because a pack only cost about a dollar back home.

Everywhere we went, people were rolling their own cigarettes to save money. They were really good at it. Some people would roll a cigarette with one hand, really fast, without hardly looking at what they were doing. Of course, we thought that was really cool, so we all bought some rolling tobacco and papers, and did it ourselves for a while.

    Where in Norway were you?
Nowadays, our navy is mostly located in Western Norway.

For my first 25 years I rolled tobacco, it was the cheapest by a wide margin.
And in terms of taste, it's also the best.
I gradually switched to filter cigarettes because I thought it would protect my lungs lol, a really stupid Norwegian.

If I remember right it was Narvic. It was so beautiful there, and the people were really friendly. A man we met in a bar invited me and a friend to come to his house for dinner and to meet his family. The car ride by the fjords and up through the snowy mountains was really beautiful and his family was great. I'd love to move to Norway when I retire, if it wasn't so cold.

All I know is that the money not spent on cigarettes bought my wife some really nice kitchen appliances.
Yeah I know what you mean. If I was still smoking, I'd be spending over $3000 a year. Now I spend almost nothing.
