Hi all

I'm loving vaping, loving it, it's help me quit smoking entirely and all that jazz.

However I'm slightly concerned about how little we seem to know about the juice. What's in it etc, are there any 100% trusted sources that can tell you exactly what goes into their juices?

Also, I've read a few threads about this silica wick that has the potential (nothing concrete, I know) to cause some long disease that will probably kill you - cheerful!
Are there alternatives to silica wicks? It won't stop me from vaping, but better to be safe than sorry I guess!

Like I said I'm not trying to hack anyone off, I'm enjoying it as much as anyone! Just would like to be as safe as possible :)

Thanks in advance

Connor

I've heard of cotton and bamboo wicks. I suppose you could always try rewicking if you cant find something with those. I've never done it, but I've seen a PBusardo video where he did it with a vivi nova, and it looked easy to me. (My sister confirmed that.)

Thank you! This is what I was looking for, pretty sure cotton wick would do the job and be potentially safer

There are plenty of vendors who will tell you exactly whats in their juices. However any good vendor is going to use all natural flavorings commonly found in food/drink, VG, PG, and sometimes distilled water. There are LOADS of good vendors out there imo, and only maybe a handful that are shady. Look around on the forums or ask around if youre looking for some flavor or particular juice.

I do not know of any lung disease you could get from poly wick, but it is a bit uncomfortable if it burns. I prefer SS mesh wick, which many atomizers can easily be fit with

Some juice vendors list the continence of their juice. If it makes you feel better you should go with your gut. Same with the silica issue there are alternatives if it makes you uncomfortable.
You concerns are valid what ever gives you piece of mind is good. Even if it has no basis what so ever if it helps you sleep better at night no harm in that.

Since e-juice is mainly PG or VG or a mixture of both. You can look them up pretty easily. They have been around a long time. For example, PG was used often in hospital humidifiers because of the ability to regulate the humidity, it's also in many of cosmetic formulations... etc. VG is often used in just about everything: cosmetics, toothpaste, shampoos, soaps, herbals, pharmaceuticals, and more. There hasn't been enough studies as to how inhaling VG or PG is but I'm going to guess that as long as politics are not involved, they are safe. Does it temporarily increase air resistance like the one study says? Yes, I'm sure it does but so does living in a humid climate or going into a sauna and is ultimately harmless. There has been several studies concerning the latter two. Hope this helps ^^

This is what I mean, I'm not trying to dissuade anyone from using silica wicks or preach an opinion, it'd just make me feel better about vaping!

Thanks for that! Does it explain how to change to a cotton wick etc? Gonna have a read now!

There might be some simple instructions there. But that forum (rebuildable atomizer systems) has TONS of tutorials, hints, tips, etc for wick and coil building. Really depends on what you want to rebuild.

Connor, depends on how concerned you are about the juices, but I've heard of people vaping without any flavoring at all (just nic, pg, and or vg). I haven't tried it myself, yet, but I've heard of others doing so. If you're only mildly concerned, then I'd say just research what your potential vendor uses and ask him/her what's in the juice you want if you can't find out any other way.
