Scribe,

This brought a tear to my eye as well, my best friends mom just passed away last Thursday, and since she lives right next door I was there with her right after she passed (she elected to take care of mom in the home instead of a hospital), you see, she had a very long battle with lung cancer, and even after having half of a lung removed and doing chemo, she still lost her fight, and it was due to smoking for so many years, she was a great woman and will truly be missed, if only, if only these could have been out a few years sooner, maybe she could have avoided this, such a painful unpleasant way to die. I am so grateful that I have done the switch, I am scared to death of going in that way. Thank you so much for your story!

Your story perfectly sums up my experience over the last 32 days. After over 30 years of smoking (and trying to quit by every means ever imagined or invented) I had resigned myself to a horrible end of life scenario of COPD, emphysema and oxygen tanks. I didn't see a way out since I had become convinced I could never stop smoking cigarettes.

About a month and half ago, I played a round of golf with some friends (which I do not do very often). Even with a golf cart, I was so winded and out of breath, I just couldn't stand it. I started the e-cig 32 days ago and haven't smoked a real cigarette since.

I just got back from a three day trip during which we played 18 holes every day. I am amazed at how fast my breathing has improved. I never became winded at any time during a round. I just cannot visualize my returning to cigarettes at this point in my life. After 30 years of smoking, I realize the 'big C" may still be in my future, but at least I know I will be able to breath normally until such time as that day may arrive.

Our primary goal is to try to make non-smokers understand what these e-cigs are and what they could mean to the huge number of people who still smoke.

August 8 marked the anniversary of two entire months without smoking! This definitely qualifies as a flat out miracle...to me.

I was so sure once the newness wore off, this would stop working, and I'd end up back on smokes, hacking and choking and wheezing my way on outa here. It didn't stop working! For the first time in 52 years I can say I am a non-smoker.

Next month I'm due for a checkup, and I can't wait to have the lung function test done again. The wheezing, the coughing, the hacking is just plain all gone, along with the shortness of breath. Talk about a new lease on life!

I've got a neat Doc, and I'm bringing lots of literature along to leave with her. There are so many of us old hard core smokers with COPD who simply cannot quit, and who live with near constant pressure from all sides to stop smoking. This takes a heck of a toll on a person emotionally and self image wise: for so long I felt so ashamed because I couldn't quit even knowing I was killing myself.

I have to again thank ECF with all my heart for seeing me through the steep learning curve, and for all the encouragement. I just love you all!

Congrats on your success with the alternative to death. If scientists knew that it isn't as simple as "quit" or "die" maybe they would be more open to what doctors always preach. Quality of life.

Until they invent a pill I can swallow and never want to touch another cigarette to my lips, I think they should all keep their mouths shut. Keep sharing the stories, there are people in this world you don't even know who care about you and your health.

Scribe & everyone,

Thanks so much for the success stories. Now that I've discovered e-cigs, I think I can finally give up, so I'm encouraged to hear from so many people who've managed it with this method.

The strange thing is, I saw the e-cig simply as a way of stopping smoking, but now I'm discovering that it's a whole new world of fun. I suppose most vapers were like that once too.

Non-smokers don't understand that it's not a question of not wanting to quit (or not wanting it "enough"), it's that we literally can't. And with e-cigarettes, it's can.

Ha! Totally spot-on! I couldn't have said it better!

It's so hard to understand how any individual, group, organization or agency could read a testimonial like yours and still think it's right to ban e-cigs.
I smoked about 45 years and quit (snap fingers) like that! Incredible!
Welcome and congratulations on your sobriety and entering into your next new future.

I was thinking the same thing! A LOT of people on this forum share a similar story... myself included.
I smoked for 20 years (and I'm only 34). I finally decided to try an ecig and quit smoking the first day it arrived... and have not had one since. I had tried quitting many times before, never with any positive results.
The fact that there are people against vp's is absolutely ludicrous.
