I have just quit smoking and switched to vaping. I was given a smok t-priv 220w tc with the tfv8 big baby beast. I didn't realize what i was getting into, since there is a lot more to setup, settings etc than I ever would have thought. I had someone familiar with vaporizers set things up for me, but I want/need to understand some things so I feel more comfortable with the setup.
First let me say, I'm comfortable with the draw I'm getting, and the flavors are fine. I just want to know if things are properly setup before prolonged excessive use I guess.

And i'm sure someone may tell me to start simpler and work my way toward something like this. I don't plan to spend any more money than I need to. The whole idea here is to save money over smoking a pack a day anyhow. I want to learn and work with what I already have.

(this may end up longer than i planned)
ok so main question here again is setting up ohms and wattage for specific coils.
I showed them at a vape shop what i had, and said i just want a simple mid-range coil to get started and go from there.
The coil i bought has 2 holes on the top, so i presume this means 2 coils? (bear with me here i'm super new to all this). The packaging did not specify coil type, so from what i've read, this means it should be run in watt mode, as it's not nickel or 'TI'(?).
anyway;
on the side of the coil, it says
Smok
v8-x4
.15(ohm)
60-150w
best 80-120w
so i understand that 60-150w is the wattage range of the coil. I presume that 80-120w is the most efficient wattage setting within the range.
Now, i have an ohms setting, and i have it set to .15 to match what the coil says.
I have the watt set to 90, as this is giving a pretty comfortable draw for me.
I want to verify all these settings are indeed appropriate, and know if there's anything important i'm missing.
.15 ohms also seems to be very low compared to a lot of what i'm reading in forums, and my vague understanding of electricity makes me wonder if this lower resistance coil is potentially more dangerous than a higher ohm coil. And does the number of holes (coils?) on top of the coil affect how these settings should be applied?
Also just want feedback on anything else there may be that i need to know about.
I don't necessarily want to make this a 'hobby' as many people are doing. I'm just looking for functionality, safety, and a cheaper & presumably healthier alternative to smoking.
forgive my ignorance, and thanks in advance for any responses
A few questions?!? :D

First, don't over think yourself. It's just vaping.

Your mod has a set of chips in it that will keep you from suffering a catastrophe. If the Ohms are too low, it will warn you and won't fire at all.

The wattage recommendation on the side of the coil is just that--a recommendation. Starting well below the bottom of that range and working up in power is a good idea. Just keep increasing wattage until you say, "damn, that's good." The next increase in power will give you a warning taste. Don't worry... you'll know the warning when you taste it. Don't worry where the wattage ends up.

Like @Eskie said, the mod can figure out the resistance by itself and it's best to let it do its own thing. Also, the Q2 coils are a good workhorse option. I like them for the same reasons he does.

You should thoroughly inspect every Smok coil you intend to use. Make sure the very bottom of the coil is seated square on the housing, and snip or bend in any protruding wires. The Baby coils are good performers but QC on them is hit or miss, with a LOT of miss.

When you're ready to try a new coil, read this first.

Is there a site or some easy-to-tell way to see all compatible coils for a tank? I'm googling coils all morning but the naming scheme for smok makes no sense to me, and I don't know how to begin looking for other brands that are compatible

Yeah, the making no sense thing is my issue as well. Easiest way I’ve found is identify your tank (Baby Beast/Big Baby Beast, or maybe a Cloud Beast as I don’t know what the newer t price comes with) then go to one of the reliable online vendors like MyVaporStore, VaporDNA, or Element Vape (yes, there are more too) look up the TANK, not the mod, and see what coils they sell particularly for that tank. Jot them down as a note for reference in the future if you’re going to buy locally from your favorite B&M vape shop. Less likely to buy the wrong one that way.

As to third party compatible coils, that’s tougher. I know there are some iJoy coils that work with the tfv12 tank. Best bet is check out the tank section here and go through the threads specific to your model.

IJoy Exo xs, Vaporesso NRG, Wotofo Flo, Joyetech Procore Aries, and Geekvape Illusion Mini are just some of the cross compatible coils. Google cross compatible Smok Big Baby Beast coils into google and do some reading.

Really?? Good news to me. The Smok coils are ok, but it’s nice to have options, especially if better priced and just as good.

Only one I know are pretty good are the procore aries. You have to do the homework tho, BBB & BB chimney is a thread too tall and are not truly "cross" compatible. In some cases it is a one way road only.

first thing I would say is slow down if what you have now is working don't get in a big rush to change things. I would get a small notebook and write down what your settings are right now and what coil you are using and juice that way down the road if it does work as well you have a point of reference. Second I would buy another tank to play with can be the same tank or a different one doesn't matter that way you can have one tank with a juice and coil in it you know you like at all times/

Just a follow up I guess.
I switched from 50-50 to 70-30. It turns out the pg bothers my stomach, and the switch immediately put a stop to that.
I'm sticking with the v8 x4 coils for now, at around 95w and it's giving me a good taste with the various juices I have so far.
Also bought a backup tank, which is smaller. I think I have the big baby beast, and the new tank is a baby beast... Anyway it came with extra coils, as well as an RBA. Maybe over my vacation next week I'll look more into making coils.
Definitely a cheaper alternative to smoking, and I haven't touched a cigarette since the day I switched. Still have half a pack in the car that I haven't even thought about until just now.
Thanks again for all the input everybody
