Hey Guys I think this is the wrong thread but how can I find out the amp limit on this battery, it came with a Lavatube starter kit and why can't I post a thread on the APVs thread yet? I plan to move onto sub- ohm

Does the battery have a brand name on it? If not, it will be next to impossible to find any data on the battery. With no name brand it is considered a generic mystery battery and NO WAY would I consider using it in a mechanical mod for sub ohm vaping. Only use specific name brand batteries for sub ohm which have stated amp specifications.

The red 18650 AW IMR 1600 mAh battery (20 amp limit) and MNKE 16500 IMR 1300 mAh battery (30 amp limit) are often recommended for sub ohm use. Realize that batteries are not all created equal, and never judge a battery as better simply by having a higher mAh rating.

AW IMR 18650 1600 mAh
Batteries : MNKE IMR 18650

Here are two important resources to read:

Okay the battery may have a 20 AMP limit but according to the website here - http://www.volcanoecigs.com/lavatube-version2-kit.html if you expand details you will see that the limit is 3 AMPS for the lavatube. Look under "Amperage Limit". Now the device is still good for sub-ohm vaping because it has a failsafe that will regulate you back down to a safe voltage if you put too much voltage through your sub-ohm coil.

BeatboxHero brings up a good and accurate point. :thumb:

Regulated mods like the Lavatube have built-in protective circuitry which kicks in when the processor detects what it see's as a defect in the attached atomizer. Any atomizer with less than 1.2 ohm +/- will be recognized by the protective circuitry as a defective coil and it will refuse to fire it.

No sub ohm coils for you.

Baditude got it all right there!

However, if you'd like to know specifically how to determine a batteries amp limit when you can find the information, here's how:
You need to research the battery and look for its "C rating." A batteries C rating helps you to figure out how many amps the battery was built to withstand. To find out the amp capacity, you multiply the C rating by the mAh and translate the number into amps. (In case you are unfamiliar with battery terminology, mAh stands for "milliampere hours." It is the standard measurement for charge capacity in most batteries we are concerned with here.)

For example, lets say you have an 18650 battery which says 2600mAh somewhere along the side. You research the brand (ie MNKE, AW, etc) and type of the battery and find that it is rated at 5C.

Now you multiply the mAh by the C rating. 2600 x 5 = 13000.

13000 transcribes into 13amps. The amp capacity for this specific (theoretical) battery is 13amps.

If you don't know the formula, you can use an Ohms Law Calculator to determine how many amps your setup is generating.

Hope I could help! Good luck!

I think its important to point out that the PULSE amp limit is 20 whereas the CONTINUOUS amp limit is 3. A pulse is traditionally defined as firing <5 seconds. I personally dont recommend exceeding the continous amp limit bc idk about you but I like a nice lonh draw now and again.

If your looking for a good battery with a high amp rating the orbtronic 2900mah is the best ive used rated for 10 amps continously
