Hey guys. I want to give as a present to my mother a nice starter kit with all the essentials required for a pleasant experience with the e-cig along with a smooth learning curve, so that she would enjoy it enough to give up her smoking habit and perhaps progress in e-cigs if she finds it enjoyable. What would you suggest be the optimal stuff? Bare in mind, she is a bit older, so it could be a tad complicated for her at first. She smokes Vogue light menthols.

Hi,

I just bought my dad (he is 76 today actually) his first starter kit for Christmas. Although he was open to the idea, and went with me to the vape shop to "pick a flavor" that they had for free to try. And also I let him try my istick so he can tell the difference when you can adjust the voltage. He really enjoyed the difference of changing the voltage to suit his needs/tastes. He ended up getting some cigar flavor, and he liked the shape of the ego batteries, and not the shape/size of the istick. So he left with two spinner ego twist (more cigarette feel for him he said, and he could easily twist the bottom for voltage needs, and no he can't read the numbers, he just twists and puffed until he found what level he liked), a ce5 clearomizer with bvc coils, and two bottles of juice with the flavors he tried and liked. He wanted two spinners because although they last about 10 -15 hours on one charge, he still felt he needed a backup.
If your mom is willing to go with you to the vape shop, that would be a good starting point. As the people at the vape shop I took my dad to were super friendly and helpful. If not, or you want it to be a surprise, I would go with something like a spinner which was easy for my dad to use. As far as juice, that is personal taste, and everyone is different. Although my dad liked the cigar flavors, my nephew liked a watermelon/banana blend and did not want the tobacco flavoring at all. You could try a sample pack of different flavors for her to choose from. Also, perhaps someone else could comment on the mg of nic, but it depends on her smoking habits, not just what she uses. (How often she smokes cigs in a day).

Hi......this is just another option to consider.....I bought a Joyetech 510T XL just over a month ago. I found it extremely easy to use and not intimidating in any way. I smoked over a pack a day for 40 years and have not had any cravings since using the 510T XL. ....that said I am ready to upgrade and ordered a Nautilis mini with the Aspire CF VV battery.:p

She's in her 40's, and she smokes from 4-6 a day.

Mum likes ego batteries plus the istick - She doesn't want to go any larger than an istick.

Everyone can be different and with the amount of products out there its hard to get things right the first time.

She likes just the old ce4 clearomisers and finds tanks to large and fiddly. Also ce5 clearomisers with their replaceable coils were not for her.

She likes to use the ce4 then when its done toss it and start a new one.

Forgive me for . I could understand this MAYBE if your mom was 80!:) However there are 80 year old sub-ohm vapers very active on this site.

Has your mom ever tried your e-cig? What did she think? What hardware are you using?

My mom uses itaste vv' s now, and will be getting a sigelei mini for Christmas, I rebuild her mini protank coils and mix her e liquids. Think she started on an evod battery that I bought last year for Christmas along with a variety of e liquids some tobacco, some not.

Little bit of a learning thing, but she caught on quick and what she can't do, she sees if I can fix or adjust...she's 60 and doesn't want anything too complicated

I say go with very cheap, yet decent, cartomizers. Especially for older people, it can put them off when to start it's so very different from what they're used to; I feel the same way about Crocs. They may be the best thing in the world, but I'd just feel stupid wearing them so wouldn't. If she finds she is actually smoking less, or not smoking at all, then awesome. She'll figure out pretty quickly whether it's for her and you can get her something practically right away that'd be better (twist + evod, etc).

The pro is that a lot of these are super cheap, as they expect they'll make their money back from you buying more cartos. But you're a good son, and will quickly learn how to buy a bottle of juice and refill them for her or show her how, and that way you aren't spending $100 on a gift asking her to change. Probably not the year to give her a bathroom weight scale either.

If you'd like I can send you what I consider to be the best deal on a kit like this right now, which I've used but don't want to be promoting them openly as they are definitely in the camp of "Here's a decent kit for $20. When you're done, one pack of cartos costs $10" category. I buy a ton of them and hand them out to people I care about, and if they dig it I show them how to refill them, and if they really dig it we start looing at upgrades.

I suppose it is all relative......................... those old people can't do hardly anything on their own and are almost completely un trainable.

If this young saucy chick you speak of is been smoking awhile than the Joye close to smoke size units might be good. My wife likes using my old set sometimes and it is simple simple, she would use it full time if hit like the Kanger.
I agree with those that suggested exposing her to some gear, either friends or the vape shop.

But the candies they have. The delicious, soul-warming butterscotch and toffee candies. It's like they discovered why pockets and purses exist and we are still using them wrong.

Heh... I agree with your laughter, despite feeling a bit insulted -- 40's is "older"? Good god, I guess that makes my 53 absolutely geriatric! I thought he was talking about someone in their 80s who might not like something "fiddly" -- it's not "older" till AT LEAST 80!

I guess I better stop building my own coils, I could be at death's door any day now. :D
