After explaining the concept of an e-cig, my mother is highly interested in buying one. Which is great because my mother has been a smoker for ... at least 40 years.

I am very high technical (I am an english major. I'm allowed to make up words.:p) but my mother on the other hand cannot work the DVD player or her computer or really anything that may appear slightly complicated.

I worry that e-cigs might be a little too complex for her.

Either way - if she wants to take the plunge I will be all for it (Hey. If she doesn't like it I can always buy it off of her, right?), but can anyone reccomend an easy model for an anti-technical older gal?

So far I think that the DSE 801 or perhaps the 510 or 910 might be best. My mother seems to like flashy things so I seem to think she might really a stainless steel one or one that has a lot of gold.

Depends on how much she wants the e-cig to mimick an anolog exactly. My roommate hates the small bat's, refilling etc with the smaller ones, but she thinks the larger ones are sooooooo biggggggggggggggg!!!!

Your Mom should get great service out of the 510, 901 or 801.
Personally, I think the 801's look like an elegant cigarette holder from the 40's and 50's, seen in those great old movies. Thinking about Betty Davis era.

I bought the 801 because I thought it looked like quite neat and seems to be easier to work it because I am new to vaping. I have not gotten mine yet, but I have seen numerous reviews on the 510, 901, and 810 and the carts on the 510 and 901 look quite tiny.

I know that if I show her the 510 and 901 she will most likely lean on liking the look of that model better. I am just concerned that, like the dvd player, she will get frustrated with the tiny parts and have no idea how to re-fill it after I've shown her numerous times.

She's most concerned with e-cigs being as "satisfying" as tobacco. I personally think I'll have a ball with it because I adore hookah and could very easily switch from tobacco to hookah in a snap (if it were portable 8-o). The size of the device is not really a concern for me just ease and decent vapor production and flavor.

My mother on the other hand is the type of person to buy something flashy and then stick it in a drawer if its too confusing.

So essentially, if it comes down to the 510, 801, and the 901, are they all just as easy to refill?

I had the same situation - I bought a 510 for myself, and my mother was fascinated with the idea. She tried mine out for a week (definitely a good thing I got some spare parts with my first order, lol) and decided she wanted one of her own.

A month later, she's totally comfortable with it, and has completely quit smoking. But the first couple of weeks were a little rough. Her biggest concern has also been the issue of being "satisfied" with the ecig vs. a real cigarette - although it turned out that in her case, nic levels weren't the problem, it was the throat hit and vapor that she really wanted. The 510 + a little VG in her juice worked great for that.

She also got frustrated early on with the "tech" aspect of vaping, but that was more a result of her adventures in pulling the bridge off an atomizer while trying to remove some strands of polyfill with tweezers. (And then proceeding to attach a brand new atomizer and vape away, primer and all, before I could get there and stop her.) Refilling cartridges has been the one thing she's managed with ease, lol - it's actually very simple, just take the cart off the atty, and drip liquid into the cart until it's full. Replace the cart, and vape away.

Anyway, a month in, and my mom has gotten to the point where she breezily dismisses that sort of maintenance with "It's really not a big deal once you know what you're doing."

So I can definitely recommend the 510 for low-tech mothers. Just be willing to put in some work on your mom's behalf - maybe get a bunch of blank cartridges, straw mod them, and then fill them yourself. So in case it takes her a few days to get the hang of it, she won't get frustrated to the point where she'll resort to having a real cigarette... Explain everything to her, set it up for her, charge her batteries, get rid of the primer for her, whatever you have to do to make the transition easy and leave her feeling optimistic about enjoying her ecig and quitting tobacco. Best way to ensure it doesn't wind up sitting in a drawer... :)

My mom's 65 and quit smoking the day I gave her a 901. She's leery of the button on the 510 so I'm glad I went with the 901.

I bought her a bunch of prefilled carts, and for a few weeks I would have to top off her carts for her when I visited. Then one week I came over and saw her doing it. She had just finished off a 3ml sample bottle. I was so proud of her! I know she was scared of touching the liquid and stuff, but I guess she saw me doing it enough and figured it couldn't be that hard.

Only thing I still do for her is blow/clean her attys occasionally and bring her new parts when she needs 'em. Give her time and she may be a pro!

Basically, I think the 510 and 901 are both pretty easy. I've had problems with stuffing coming out of the 801 and I wouldn't want to saddle my mom with that. But if you've had no issues with your 801 carts like me then any should be ok.
