About to convert to ecigs - scared to death!

Ello everyone.

I'm from the UK, so hopefully you guys can still help with advice & stuff.

I am a 20+ cigarettes a day person & want to a) save shedloads of money and b) improve my health a bit (maybe).

I have been looking & looking & looking at what sort of ecigarettes to go for.

I have narrowed it down to:

GreenSmoke
or
V2

What I want is an ecigarette that looks like a real cigarette & will fool me into thinking that I am smoking a real cigarette - tobacco flavour & a good "throat hit".

Also good battery life so I'm not panicking about running out of battery life during a day.

I realise that the starter kits can be pricey (especially the GreenSmoke ones) but that's not the main concern.

I'm going to want a mains adaptor, USB adaptor, Charge Case (which GreenSmoke don't do I think), loads of batteries & loads of refills.

What sort of batteries should I get for the longest battery life without making the cigarette look ridiculous - like I said, I don't want those black/brown plastic things, I want to fool myself that I am smoking a real cigarette.

Sorry about all the questions, but I just want to go for it & ditch the real cigarettes to eventually save a load of money.

Thank you in advance for any advice you can give!

Cheers,

Ian.

If you're anything like most of us, you'll find the e-cigs won't cut it for what your looking to do. Going through with the same ritual using a vaporizer worked wonders for me. Pretending it's a real cig might be a double edged sword. Get your fix of nicotine with a vaporizer and you won't want a cig. Save yourself the hassle. Start off with a small VV battery and tank. Trust me, once you get your nicotine, the craving for the real thing goes away and the e-cigs, for me, just didn't produce. Good luck to you.

Welcome, nothing to be scared of. You will be pleasantly surprised at how well the ecigs work. Of the two you have picked I would go with the v2. I have used them and they do work well. The problem with the cig-alike type ecig is battery life and 808 threading, they are usually in the area of 280/380 mah. 100mah = about an hour of active use so you will need several. Most people -but not all upgrade fairly quickly to the pen style ecig w/510 threading as they can last all day on a single charge and just about any topper will work with them. Finding an eliquid you like was the hardest for me. I suggest sampler packs in the 18mg range to start. You will be surprised how quickly you get used to the bigger ecig.

This won't really answer your questions but let me offer a suggestion based on my experience. If you want to make a strong effort to quit, I'd invest in a good starter personal vaporizer.

Let me give you a little back history. Several years ago, I made the decision to quit smoking. I bought one of those "looks like a cigarette" setups from a gas station. Taste was horrible and it lasted about a week until I went back to cigs. Fast forward to about 7-8 weeks ago. I thought I would give it another shot with a cigarette "look a like" for the same reasons as you. "If it looks like a cigarette, it'll be easier for me to quit". While the taste was a lot better than it was the first time I tried, I got bored REALLY quick with it. I was on the verge of going back to cigs until I went to a local vape shop. I tried out an EVOD setup they had in the store and that changed everything. Flavor was there, the nicotine I was craving was there, and the versatility of trying a bunch of new flavors was there.

It'll be 8 weeks this Saturday without a real cigarette. I can taste foods that I could never taste before. I already feel like my lung capacity is improving. It is even to the point that when I smell a real cigarette, I find it offensive. If I had not of went to that vape shop and purchased a GOOD starter kit, I know I'd be back to smoking.

Point is, if you start with a "look a like" e-cigarette, don't be discouraged if you get bored with it. Try out an EVOD or something similar. Better yet, if you have a vape shop close by, go in, pickup a battery and try some flavors for yourself before buying anything.

Just my suggestions. There are soo many options out there and it can be daunting. But, sometimes hearing it from someone who just recently went through it helps out a bit.

Let me know if you have questions! I'm still a newb but I'll help if I can!

EDIT: By the way, just saw you were looking at V2s. That is what I started with recently and it is a great product. Just, for me, it didn't cut it.

I just sat with a friend on Saturday. He wants to convert to PVs. I laid out all of my old and not so old hardware and let him try each. He settled on an ego. Said it felt like a small cigar and fit in his pocket. He also said the cigalike did not give him enough satisfaction. Just a thought. This is what he is getting.

Welcome To ECF!

consider going a different route concerning the purchase of the kit... the cigalikes are expensive for what they offer and the refills are just as expensive as smoking ( In the US anyway)
also vaping is not like smoking... it is close but not the same so be prepared for some differences. you may also want to consider tapering off of ciggies and not replacing them with vaping for several weeks. I went from 40+ a day ( ciggies) to less than 10 in the first week, then dropped down to 4-5 a day for a couple of months... now Im doing 1-2 a day and eventually that will go down to 0 a day.

great choice...i recommend this exact kit to everyone new who asks about vaping.

Thank you everybody who has replied.

The number of ecigs is massive & that's the biggest worry - spending over $100 on a starter kit with everything & finding that I hate the taste etc. is the worrying thing.

I guess I could start with the "cigarette lookalike" kit then move onto the more traditional 'shapes' with longer battery life / refill life etc.

Are you guys saying "try the disposable ecigs" until I find one that I like & then go for the full kit(s) of that make, or just go for it.

Just out of interest, I'm pretty unfussy when it comes to cigarettes - I'll smoke anything that is "full flavour", but usually the Superkings (longer ones).

Keep the advice coming, because it is an expensive initial expense & I want to get it as right as I can.

Cheers for the fast help & advice so far!

Greetings CC, welcome to the forum.

A cig-a-like E-Cig and tobacco-flavoured e-liquid were my first choices, too, I think a lot of newcomers identify with this sort of starter kit.

But I wasn't able to quit smoking entirely until I got a more powerful set-up, a Vamo and Vivi Nova clearomizer, which produced thicker and richer vapour.

If I were to do it all over again, I'd probably buy a few disposable V2 cigs before I'd buy the entire kit. I spent a good chunk of money for the kit and it just sits and collects dust now.

In my opinion, you can't go wrong with an EVOD kit. Get the EVOD kit, maybe a Mini ProTank 2 (or two) so you don't have to worry about tank cracking, and some flavors and you'll be good to go.

I was also worried about going to a larger setup. By larger, I mean physically comparing the cig look-a-likes to the EVOD. In reality, it is still convenient albeit larger.

Ah, so Glenn, you're saying that it's a false economy to go for the cig-a-likes due to battery life & lack of "hit".

I have been "researching" ecigs for days now & got it down to the GreenSmoke / V2 ecigs (apparently due to the amount of vapour/taste/quality), but now it's all back to square one again & I'll start looking at the longer ones as well that are nothing like 'real' cigarettes!

I can testify to some of the similar stories here.

$40 some years ago on a "Health E-Cigarette" starter kit. Total crap. Didn't work. Went back to analogs for a year.
$100 on Blu kit and extra carto's. It was better, but carto's didn't last long and battery management was a constant PITA! Went back to analogs again!
$100 for a kit with 2 pen style vaporizers with clearomizers and 60ml of juice. Slam dunk !!!

IMHO: don't waste the money on cig-a-likes. :vapor:

This is what I bought for Christmas for a smoking friend who had tried my e-cig and liked it:

5ml Sampler (18mg) Flavour - HS Delight £2.49
1100mah Ego Battery & Pass Through £15.99
Esmart Clearomiser £2.95
Total: £25

That's about as cheap as a starting kit gets, and about as much as I could justify spending. Unlike starter kits, the components don't come with instructions, so I wrote some for her. I judged that was good enough for her to find out if it was something she wanted to get into. Having learned that she liked it, then for her birthday I bought her:

5ml Samplers (18mg) Flavour - RY-5 £2.49
5ml Samplers (18mg) Flavour - HS Impulse £2.49
5ml Samplers (18mg) Flavour - HS Storm £2.49
Grizwald's 5ml Samplers Flavour - Banoffee Cream £2.79
Grizwald's 5ml Samplers Flavour - Caramel Espresso £2.79
Grizwald's 5ml Samplers Flavour - Gingerbread £2.79
Grizwald's 5ml Samplers Flavour - Raspberry Dream £2.79
EVOD BC Clearomiser Colour - Red £4.95
EVOD Atomiser Heads (5) Resistance - 2.5ohm £8.95
Total: £32

All of the above from Vape Escape

That should be enough for her to vape for a few weeks and explore various flavours. In the long term she'll probably want another battery as back-up and one or two more clearomisers.

I think if you can go to a shop that's your best start. They should have samples to try. I felt the same way about set ups being too large. I got used to it. I started with an Evod and now have a vamo. I know that there is a huge selection out there. I haven't smokedin almost a month. I started with tobacco flavors and will probably stay there, personal choice, because that's what I like. There are now many of the cigalikes on the market do your research. I really think the shop might be a good place to start. There are also ecig forums on here you may want to go through. The joy of vaping is the number of choices that are out there. I think its better than smoking. You have flavors, set ups anything. Also make sure you get a starter kit so it comes with everything and buy back up batteries. Just my opinion. Good luck

I'll say go along with the ego battery and kanger evod to start out. You'll get a lot more satisfaction from that setup than any cig-a-like you can find.

Don't go crazy buying up one flavor of e-liquid. You're tastes will change over the first couple of months and you don't want to get stuck with a bunch of juice that may not do it for you any longer.

The only either piece of advice I can give, is to initially follow your regular smoking habits only use the e-cig instead. Maintaining the same old regiment at the start made the transition all but painless for me.

You have nothing at all to fear. The folks here on ECF are some of the best on the planet! We've all been where you're at right now, and the vast majority will help any way we can.

Welcome, good luck, and don't be a stranger!

Looking at the Kanger evod starter kit now - is that the EVOD that a few members have mentioned here?
Yes.

In my opinion the EVOD is the best beginner's clearomiser. It has good flavour and doesn't exhibit many problems. The EVOD battery is OK, but I don't like that the button is flush. It makes finding it without looking a bit of a fiddle. But I'd put up with that to get the clearomiser.

My vote would be for an Ego type device. I'm assuming there is some kind of outdoor market around you? There are loads where I am, and they all sell Ego-T starter packs for around £10. Even though I use high end stuff, I still use my Ego-T daily at work. Just do yourself a favour, don't buy any of the e-liquid from the same stalls. It's some seriously nasty no name Chinese stuff that will put you off vaping. The starter kit generally has 2 batteries, 2 tanks and a USB charger. Very small compared to a lot of mods, but has decent battery life and holds a good amount of juice (1.6ml). Everyone I know who vapes without exception started on one of these and most never bought anything else!

I failed quitting before but it was bad quality juice that did it for me. Try LT ecigs for VERY reasonable prices and high quality, along with fast shipping in the UK.
