You can find good deals on simple starter kits, battery 650mah, tank, and charger for less than $20 here in the states over the net. I just purchased a 'backup' kit for $15 from MyFreedomSmokes, (variable voltage even), a CE4 tank, and charger. I don't know what the situation is across the pond, but there has to be a good deal there somewhere. I'm another one that agrees the cig-a-likes may be more of a turn off than a turn on, and would suggest a simple bat and tank kit. Find a juice you like and you're finished with tobacco. You can always sell or give it away, (hopefully when you upgrade, and not because you went back to smoking). Whatever you come up with, you're half way there. You have made a conscious decision to scrap the baccy. If someone can't make that decision first, it won't happen. Good Luck on the best journey for your health you will ever take. Lots of encouragement here on ECF, so come back often. And, let us know of your soon to be success.

Hi there Captain! First, congrats on your decision to quit. I was where you are 2 years ago and I must admit, looking back, that I could have saved a LOT of money had I known about this forum. I just found it today so I am a forum newbie but not a vaping newbie.

I have tried many, many cigalikes. Here are my issues with them:

They tend to leak into your mouth which is most unpleasant.

They left a terrible "burnt" taste when cartomizer went empty.

Battery life is terrible, even with the so called extended life batts.

Constant recharging of batts.

Cartomizers were rather expensive compared to the e juice.

Subject to quite a few "dud" carts and inconsistency of flavor.

Okay, so here I am today with my first EVOD and all I can say is THIS is what I've been looking for. The difference is like eating Spagetti-O's and then sitting down to a proper italian meal!!

I'm not sure if I am allowed to give you the brand name as I don't know if it would be against forum policy. But, as others have expressed their preference for EVODs', I will say that I must concur wholeheartedly.

Good luck on this new adventure! Please let us know how you get on.

Hahahahaha

It's now getting to the "My favourite is XXXX" and "XXXX works the best for me" all over the place with different names/styles added in everywhere.

Ok - rather than buy lots of different disposable ecigs for a few quid each to try & find one that suits me, I think I might just got for the all-inclusive "XXX" starter kit with lots of flavours to see what I like.

As long as I get a "throat hit", loads of charged batteries & enough flavours to last a while, I'll be happy (I hope) hahahahaha.

Just made the leap to vaping by purchasing some higher quality equipment. I got an ECO P18 tank with a variable voltage battery (1100 mAh) and find that it gives me the satisfaction of smoking. I also purchased two cig-alikes thinking the same thing that you are thinking, if it's more cigarette like I'm more likely to quit. Although my cig-alikes are of higher quality than what I've gotten in the past, I must admit that using the ECO has become my goto choice. To echo what others have said, it just simply leaves me feeling more satisfied. So much so I just ordered another one and some new flavors, and I have not had ONE SINGLE CRAVING for a regular cigarette since my last one at 10:30 yesterday morning.

Edited to Add: I was a pack and a half a day smoker until yesterday morning.

I'll throw in my experience in the hope that it will help, it is similar to what others have already posted so it must not be too uncommon to go through this. I was a 20+ cig a day smoker for 39 years, tried everything including the nicotine gum/patches and the Blu cig-a-likes but nothing worked. After spending the money on the full Blu rechargeable kit I found that the disposable versions were larger, had more flavor, and lasted longer, but still not enough. Was on the verge of giving up when I found the world of "real" e-cigs/vaporizers.

Started off with a Vivi Nova and an Ego battery and have never looked back. Now I'm using Kanger Protanks and cartomizer tanks, and even have a dripper. Initially you won't be saving any money until you find the setup that's right for you, but after that the saving add up quickly. I can now climb stairs and go on brisk walks without getting winded, and I can smell things I couldn't before. Since taste and feel are subjective and personal, it's unlikely you will be able to hit on the best setup for you from reading and researching. As suggested before go into a vape shop and try things, it's the best way.

My last bit of advice is don't think of it as quitting, think of it as transitioning your addiction. Don't try to find something that tastes and feels exactly like a cigarette it doesn't exist, e-cigs come close but not exact. Remember you're not sticking dead plant matter in your mouth and setting it on fire any more. You will find something that comes close enough that you can deal with it for a few days, and that's all you will need. I found that the first week was a little difficult and had to put some effort into it to fight off the urge to light up a few times. The second week was easier, and by the third week I didn't want a cigarette any more, vaping was more enjoyable. My last analog cigarette was Nov. 6, 2013. I hang out with smokers regularly and I don't get the urge to light one up at all anymore. Don't give up, it's not as hard or scary as I thought it would be, just had to make the commitment.

Of the Greensmoke and V2, I have both and personally prefer the V2.
The V2 with the long battery, in white is not bad.

Is it going to give you the maximum benefits of vaping?
Obviously not, but it is a very useful member of my vaping collection.

I usually have one or two V2's with me anytime I'm out and about. They are discreet.. they mimic a real smoke very well.. they hit pretty nice and they are easy to refill with liquid and charge fast. And most of all.. they are better than a cigarette.

I converted my sister to vaping from nearly 2 packs a day with V2's and she still carries them with her all the time. She upgraded to a Innokin vv v30 and that has become her favorite but the V2 is always on her somewhere.

My favorite has become my VTR but again.. I always have V2's handy simply because they fill the subconscious need I have to hold something like a smoke in my hand. That hand mouth habit smokers have is satisfied for me any way.. with V2's.

I would say.. don't discount the cig-alikes.. they serve a need.

Then take your time and actually look at the mods out there, because you will need one.. or like me.. twelve or so.

I started with a Halo G6 and moved up to a Halo Triton in a week. From the first day I went from 20 cigarettes a day to five. Now two weeks in I might have a couple a day.

What really worked for me where the NET juices. They tasted like really good expensive analogs. Now I've moved over more to more flavored juices because analogs just don't really do it for me.

Congrats on taking the first step.

Ello everyone.

I'm from the UK, so hopefully you guys can still help with advice & stuff.

I am a 20+ cigarettes a day person & want to a) save shedloads of money and b) improve my health a bit (maybe).

I have been looking & looking & looking at what sort of ecigarettes to go for.

I have narrowed it down to:

GreenSmoke
or
V2

What I want is an ecigarette that looks like a real cigarette & will fool me into thinking that I am smoking a real cigarette - tobacco flavour & a good "throat hit".

Also good battery life so I'm not panicking about running out of battery life during a day.

I realise that the starter kits can be pricey (especially the GreenSmoke ones) but that's not the main concern.

I'm going to want a mains adaptor, USB adaptor, Charge Case (which GreenSmoke don't do I think), loads of batteries & loads of refills.

What sort of batteries should I get for the longest battery life without making the cigarette look ridiculous - like I said, I don't want those black/brown plastic things, I want to fool myself that I am smoking a real cigarette.

Sorry about all the questions, but I just want to go for it & ditch the real cigarettes to eventually save a load of money.

Thank you in advance for any advice you can give!

Cheers,

Ian.
Whichever it is, look for the one using the 510 thread interface

ego2e.jpg

There are still some out there using kr808 901 and some other interface; no point getting tied down to that stuff; you want what you buy to be compatible with most other stuff.

But for a cigalike, the tricky part is finding one that replaces your current brand of cigarette; only way to do that is to try; chances are both greensmoke and v2 sell disposable versions that will taste much the same as their fancier alternatives.

Once you get to that point where you find that this thing can work, and you don't have to keep ashtrays lying around, you'll be past the first big milestone, and after that it more of finding a setup that will save you money.

Thank you everybody who has replied.

The number of ecigs is massive & that's the biggest worry - spending over $100 on a starter kit with everything & finding that I hate the taste etc. is the worrying thing.

I guess I could start with the "cigarette lookalike" kit then move onto the more traditional 'shapes' with longer battery life / refill life etc.

Are you guys saying "try the disposable ecigs" until I find one that I like & then go for the full kit(s) of that make, or just go for it.

Just out of interest, I'm pretty unfussy when it comes to cigarettes - I'll smoke anything that is "full flavour", but usually the Superkings (longer ones).

Keep the advice coming, because it is an expensive initial expense & I want to get it as right as I can.

Cheers for the fast help & advice so far!

Well if taste isn't going to end up turning you off then your options are wider open; I know in my case I could smoke 1 cigalike, and soon find there's some part of the taste I get sick of tasteing and need to find something else. If you like "full flavour" I am guess ing you probably won't like menthol??? I think alot of the popular disposable ecigs are menthol, so it's something to check of the packaging before you buy one.

btw any vape stores in your neighbourhood?

I'll echo the sentiments of many here: Congrats on making the decision to quit smoking!

I was a pack a day (that's abbreviated to PAD) smoker for 40 years. I was dating a woman who doesn't like smoking, so I went thru a couple of BLU's, and they were fine when I was with her, but not enough to get me to quit. The relationship was brief, but it put quitting smoking in my head, and shortly after I chose to buy an Ego clone setup rather than a carton of cigs, since the price was comperable. I started at 24mg, and didn't crave a cig. I found this site and was overwhelmed by the choices, so as with everything I do, I dove in feet first & bought a bunch of different things, in an effort to find what fits me. We are all different, so what works for one doesn't mean it will work for you. I choose to keep it pretty simple, not wanting to get into rebuilding & major mods or anything yet. I found the Visions Spinner battries work well for me, topped with either Kanger Mini Protank 2's, or Aspire BDC's. You will find there are tons of choices of juices. I suggest finding 2 that you like, and alternating them, so you don't get bored.

You've made the choice to quit smoking, that's HUGE! Now do what is comfortable for you, and go for it! We are here for advice and encoragement, so ask all the questions you need to.

Nothing to be afraid of. This will work if you give it a fair try and get the right setup.
Nothing suits everyone so I can only share what has worked for me.
I started with the "cigalikes" they did not work for me so I went to a local store and ended up with a starter kit.
Basically a twist battery and a pro tank plus some juice. all together with a charger it was about $50. USD.
This worked well enough to get me here to this forum and I've gotten betgeargera as I've learned more.
I would recommend something like an MVP and an AsNautilustilus as a second step.
I've graduated to Kaifun and Taifun GT clones which I re-build with a micro coil and cotton but still use the Aspire for convenience.
You can certainluntil untill you are convinced it is right for you before investing more.
I would strongly recommend starting with at least an 18mg nicotine level as I don't believe anything will work if that nicotine craving is not satisfied. You can reduce the level later if you want.
I still use some 18mg but also have 12mg that I switch to in the evening.
I have only been using ecigs for about 5 months but I have not had a cigarette since I started.
Even better I have not wanted one!

Good luck.

Ah, so Glenn, you're saying that it's a false economy to go for the cig-a-likes due to battery life & lack of "hit".

I have been "researching" ecigs for days now & got it down to the GreenSmoke / V2 ecigs (apparently due to the amount of vapour/taste/quality), but now it's all back to square one again & I'll start looking at the longer ones as well that are nothing like 'real' cigarettes!

If you've already made up your mind to stop the cigs and switch, then something like an evod kit should be a better investment; better yet if you can get a glass tank like miniprotank2.

Either way, having a disposable cigalike is not a bad backup; it's not like a pack of cigarettes that will get stale in a few weeks after you open it.

I think if you can go to a shop that's your best start. They should have samples to try. I felt the same way about set ups being too large. I got used to it. I started with an Evod and now have a vamo. I know that there is a huge selection out there. I haven't smokedin almost a month. I started with tobacco flavors and will probably stay there, personal choice, because that's what I like. There are now many of the cigalikes on the market do your research. I really think the shop might be a good place to start. There are also ecig forums on here you may want to go through. The joy of vaping is the number of choices that are out there. I think its better than smoking. You have flavors, set ups anything. Also make sure you get a starter kit so it comes with everything and buy back up batteries. Just my opinion. Good luck

Tom

Funny think happend to me only yesterday; I pickup one one of my old cigalikes and took a puff; its at least 6 months old;
the thing felt so small!

I've so gotten used to the zmax and vamo now, a regular size cigalike feels real piddly!
