Sorry, OP, I wasn't trying to hijack the
thread. Me and Bad have a history of bickering in a love/hate relationship. I was trying to paint a picture in opposition to the popular belief that Provari is the "end all be all". I will say one last thing to Bad and then I'm done with that subject. Bad, please don't respond to it.
I regret I didn't have time to read every story I just confirmed that they weren't complete BS or ID-10T errors with the first couple posts. I didn't follow the trail to the end. I was just trying to show you that there are plenty of stories out there. It is my opinion that they should be a little more user friendly and work perfectly out of the box without any calls to anyone. Perhaps they need a troubleshooting section in the manual to avoid that.
I apologize that I didn't have time to go
through them, like I usually do, but my Great Aunt died (cancer) so I've been helping my family deal with the arrangements, my sole remaining grandmother is in the hospital, I have the 5k Race for the Cure (breast cancer awareness - my mom and my sister-in-law are both currently fighting it) in a few hours, and then it's in-laws for lunch, and then to the showing for my Great Aunt. So that's my excuse and I think it's a pretty good one worth at least one get-off-the-hook-free card. When I get home I have a bottle of wine with my name on it. I'll have earned it.
Back to the OP:
I'm not in love with the Lavatube 1.0 even at its current price. They have amperage issues, they are wildly inaccurate on their voltage, they too require an adapter to use certain atomizers, they have durability issues and they secretly lower the voltage without telling you that they're doing it when you try to pull too many amps (and especially on dual coil atomizers).
The Provari throws you an error code and it won't fire when you present it with a situation it can't handle. At least it tells you. The safety feature of the Lavatube is nice for novices because they could make mistakes like that, but I can just see the poor guy thinking he's pumping up the voltage bit by bit and 6v and he's actually at 3.8v on a dual coil.
Are any of those dealbreakers? Not necessarily but it's up to you. Knowledge is power. The thing that bothers me about it is the lack of being forthright about it on volacano
ecig's part. If you'd like to see some of what I said being proven you can check these vids out by GrimmGreen.

For the record, the Lavatube 1.0 is 2.5 amps, and the Provari is 3.5 amps. The new Lavatube 2.0 is 3 amps, and has an easier button interface, a supposedly clickier button, but it is not a vast improvement over the 1.0 to my limited understanding of it.
Just let me know if you don't understand the role that amperage plays in ecigs and I will get into that later tonight when I get home from my super busy day, and hopefully before the wine kicks in, because it's going to get technical. I've been meaning to add a section about that to my Vaper's Handbook anyway. I also mean to do a writeup on the Slap Yo' Mama too (thanks Bad for reminding me I totally forgot about it).
