Hello Vapers!
AW is off to a great start for 2014 - already have a handful of projects going on.
Thanks to everyone whom supported me last year -
I've learned a lot about the storage needs of my fellow Vapers. I was fortunate to meet and mingle with many of you at Vapetoperfest recently here in SoCal.
I've made many unique and unusual stands last year, and have professionally photographed them. Soon, I'll find time to edit and post the pics in the galleries of my website.
I've added a new holder line for users of the standard starter kits of 510, 901 & KR808 devices. I'm busy drawing up a similar line for users of eGo products and their many clones.
Additionally, I'm designing a line of step holders, as these designs have proven to be quite popular. I'm not past paper and pencil sketches at this point, then more exact sketching in CAD, to end up with a handful of step designs to start out with.
This thread is to introduce ideas for new lines of holders, and to take suggestions and ideas for features and types of holders you would like to see. We can interact in a reasonably short time frame here in this thread - post and idea or feature, detail your idea a little - I'll produce a CAD drawing, post it, and we can all discuss what we think, what improvements could be made, etc... You might just end up with a line of holders named after you, who knows?
I'll get this party started with some sketches of a few ideas I have for new types of holders. The first is taking the use of the small magnets I've used to make holder pairs that click together, and using them to make a modular holder line that can grow and change with your needs. I've covered the basics (I think) in terms of accounting for most of the equipment we all know and love:
We can't discern what all these are for 'cause the scale is so small. Here's an image of just the single cubes:
The other units in the first pic are just 2x, 3x, 2x2, 2x3 and 3x3 versions of the above single cubes. The singles are 1-3/4" cubes with small button magnets on all four sides. The other sizes are multiples of 1-3/4" - so, 2x are 1-3/4" x 2= 3-1/2", 3x is 3 times 1-3/4" long. This way they can be arranged in many ways. Here is a sampling of different sized units:
In order to make the various different sized holders "play" nice with each other, the magnets need to be arranged in a certain way:
Doing this, all the square holders can be arranged any way you can imagine. On the rectangular holders, the magnets are arranged the same, just the placement of the + and - poles of the magnets determine if the rectangular holder is used vertically or horizontally in the holder group:
This is just one small example of what can be done. With just the number of holders in the first pic, you could probably create hundreds of combinations.
I haven't given much thought to pricing yet, but, off the top of my head - In Oak, I would guess that a single cube would be about $20. A 3x3 would be about $40, and the rest somewhere between those two. There will be discounts for ordering more than one piece at a time. Let me know what you think; any ideas on how to make them better?
The second idea I had came to me when I was looking at pavers for landscaping around my house. Specifically the ones that interlocked, or fit together to form a pattern. It got me to thinking about a holder shape that would fit together with alike others to form a pattern. I have one pattern in two variations to start:
The one with straight edges would be much easier to produce, the curvy one might be a challenge getting the holders to fit together with real tight joints between the two. Might require my designing a tool to control the shape of the curves while sanding to final shape.
I only showed a single PV hole in the center so you can get an idea of the scale, and see that a single holder could accommodate several items. As your collection grows you can add another holder that compliments the one you already have:
If your collection REALLY grows...
I'll work on coming up with other shapes that work in the same way, but it'll take some doing, as these were a bit of work to get right!
Finally, I have mentioned that I wanted to come up with a line of wall hung cabinets for vape related storage. I've only had time to come up with one idea so far:
Similar in size to a bathroom medicine cabinet, with a lockable window door, the design features slots in the interior of the walls in which to slide various holder modules into:
I haven't designed many "inserts" yet, but can let my customers direct which way that will go in order to make each one customized for the owner with the ability to change the interior of the cabinet at will simply by changing a holder module or "insert".
That is the extent of my thoughts over the last few weeks while I enjoyed a great holiday time with my family and friends. Hope you had an equally satisfying holiday!
Rick
