Hello Vapers!
AW is off to a great start for 2014 - already have a handful of projects going on. Thanks to everyone whom supported me last year -
I've learned a lot about the storage needs of my fellow Vapers. I was fortunate to meet and mingle with many of you at Vapetoperfest recently here in SoCal.

I've made many unique and unusual stands last year, and have professionally photographed them. Soon, I'll find time to edit and post the pics in the galleries of my website.

I've added a new holder line for users of the standard starter kits of 510, 901 & KR808 devices. I'm busy drawing up a similar line for users of eGo products and their many clones.

Additionally, I'm designing a line of step holders, as these designs have proven to be quite popular. I'm not past paper and pencil sketches at this point, then more exact sketching in CAD, to end up with a handful of step designs to start out with.

This thread is to introduce ideas for new lines of holders, and to take suggestions and ideas for features and types of holders you would like to see. We can interact in a reasonably short time frame here in this thread - post and idea or feature, detail your idea a little - I'll produce a CAD drawing, post it, and we can all discuss what we think, what improvements could be made, etc... You might just end up with a line of holders named after you, who knows?

I'll get this party started with some sketches of a few ideas I have for new types of holders. The first is taking the use of the small magnets I've used to make holder pairs that click together, and using them to make a modular holder line that can grow and change with your needs. I've covered the basics (I think) in terms of accounting for most of the equipment we all know and love:

We can't discern what all these are for 'cause the scale is so small. Here's an image of just the single cubes:

11846234806_e53c432cda_c.jpg

The other units in the first pic are just 2x, 3x, 2x2, 2x3 and 3x3 versions of the above single cubes. The singles are 1-3/4" cubes with small button magnets on all four sides. The other sizes are multiples of 1-3/4" - so, 2x are 1-3/4" x 2= 3-1/2", 3x is 3 times 1-3/4" long. This way they can be arranged in many ways. Here is a sampling of different sized units:

11846227876_3bc7c8a72f_c.jpg

In order to make the various different sized holders "play" nice with each other, the magnets need to be arranged in a certain way:

11846287546_b05084ccb2_c.jpg

Doing this, all the square holders can be arranged any way you can imagine. On the rectangular holders, the magnets are arranged the same, just the placement of the + and - poles of the magnets determine if the rectangular holder is used vertically or horizontally in the holder group:

11862303616_52d859648e_c.jpg

This is just one small example of what can be done. With just the number of holders in the first pic, you could probably create hundreds of combinations.

I haven't given much thought to pricing yet, but, off the top of my head - In Oak, I would guess that a single cube would be about $20. A 3x3 would be about $40, and the rest somewhere between those two. There will be discounts for ordering more than one piece at a time. Let me know what you think; any ideas on how to make them better?

The second idea I had came to me when I was looking at pavers for landscaping around my house. Specifically the ones that interlocked, or fit together to form a pattern. It got me to thinking about a holder shape that would fit together with alike others to form a pattern. I have one pattern in two variations to start:

11845874074_8d4f929c27_c.jpg

The one with straight edges would be much easier to produce, the curvy one might be a challenge getting the holders to fit together with real tight joints between the two. Might require my designing a tool to control the shape of the curves while sanding to final shape.

I only showed a single PV hole in the center so you can get an idea of the scale, and see that a single holder could accommodate several items. As your collection grows you can add another holder that compliments the one you already have:

If your collection REALLY grows...

I'll work on coming up with other shapes that work in the same way, but it'll take some doing, as these were a bit of work to get right!

Finally, I have mentioned that I wanted to come up with a line of wall hung cabinets for vape related storage. I've only had time to come up with one idea so far:

11845727863_0b30a2ba88_c.jpg

Similar in size to a bathroom medicine cabinet, with a lockable window door, the design features slots in the interior of the walls in which to slide various holder modules into:

11846245526_21e9313e21_c.jpg

I haven't designed many "inserts" yet, but can let my customers direct which way that will go in order to make each one customized for the owner with the ability to change the interior of the cabinet at will simply by changing a holder module or "insert".

That is the extent of my thoughts over the last few weeks while I enjoyed a great holiday time with my family and friends. Hope you had an equally satisfying holiday!

Rick

Hey Everyone-

Hope y'all had a good weekend. I just dropped by to let everyone know I am just finishing up my first run of the new year, and have room left in the second run to start next week. I have several woods in stock such as Bubinga, Caribbean Rosewood, Oak, Padauk, Purple Heart, Santos Mahogany, Walnut, Wenge & Zebrawood.

Thanks,

Rick

Very nice.

I have been thinking about a cabinet.
I bought one about a year ago but it wasn't made well and there is no doors :(

This is an old picture and doesn't show my current gear but this is something that I would like to have remade from a quality craftsman and a door/s added on it ;)

Thanks - I'm completely open to design ideas. Your cabinet looks like it has thin shelves that fit into slots in the sides. Similar to my design. I was even thinking of making a cabinet that has a juice section that is chilled... Wouldn't be that hard to do - not refrigerated, just 10-15 degrees below ambient. Or it could also warm by the same amount. Just an idea ;)

Very nice.

I have been thinking about a cabinet.
I bought one about a year ago but it wasn't made well and there is no doors :(

I started designing a wall cabinet line when a customer mentioned keeping liquids out and around, and the dangers to kids and animals. Said a locking wall cabinet would be a good idea. I keep all my stuff in the fridge, so the idea a cooling an area of a cabinet sounded like a good idea. It would use the same technology as the little can coolers for the car that plug into the cigarette lighter.

Thanks for the comment-

Yes, that would be a great idea with the cooled cabinet.
I think the locking cabinet would be nice too.

I will be watching and waiting.

The person who made mine said it was made out of wood.
When I got it the main frame is wood and the shelves and back are made out of that pressed wood crap.

I would of never wasted my $100 if I had known.
They wouldn't take it back, even though they messed up :(

Hey everybody!

"The rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated"

I've been busy - some fun - some not (medical)

Lets talk about the fun part...

I have a pile of Maple, Walnut, Oak, Bubinga, Purple Heart, Padauk, Wenge, Caribbean Rosewood and Zebrawood that has been sized, several pieces laminated together, and prepped for the making of holders.

I've taken the size of the various pieces and laminations back to the "drawing board" and have designed over a dozen new holders that will be put up on the website for sale in the "In Stock Holders" section. Included will be a couple different flavors of the In Stock #1 Holder - several bottom weighted truncated pyramid single PV holders, and some new designs.

Expect to see them start appearing on the site in the next week to 10 days!

Also, if you need something special - I've got both production time and major wood available (see above types) for projects-

Talk to y'all soon,

Rick

Well, so much for the next week to 10 days for some new holders!

I'm still dealing with medical issues - and have lost much time that would have been available for making holders. Hopefully, things are on the upswing, and I can spend more time making wood chips!

I've had a handful of custom orders that took precedence over in stock holders, and finally got a prototype made of a Police Motorcycle Officer storage holder, and it's currently out in the field and being tested on the motorcycle. The officer testing it is quite excited about a special feature I added - a storage space to hold 3 fully loaded magazines that has a sliding part that when slid, will either stand the magazines up, making them quick and easy to get to, or slide it the other way, and the magazines lay down for storage.

I hope to get back to work on the stock holders, but the custom orders keep coming! I'll keep plugging along, and we'll get some new holders on the website soon.

Thanks,

Rick

Wow, almost three weeks have gone by! I have scattered memories of them... pharmaceutically induced of course - the med circus goes on-

I've managed to get some work accomplished on the in stock holders - they are machined and ready for sanding!

I'll hold off on predicting any further dates as I'm still playing prescription round robin with my doctors - trying to get a nasty pain condition under control.

I think I might be allergic to my regular job, I feel so much better when I'm home and working in the shop - perhaps the right prescription is retirement - well, at least working for someone else!

Hope to talk to you all soon-

Hey all,

I continue to stay busy with custom orders, but am working on product for the website.

Getting near - I have completed 8 of the 12 new holders - and added over a dozen Truncated Pyramid single PV Holders to the run. Some will match a few of the new holders.

The four that remain to be finished are two with "special" finishing... and two that I just don't like the finish and I'm going to re-finish them.

The single holders are currently being machined for the bottom weights and the PV hole. Hope to have them all done in the next couple weeks.

Back to the wood chips... :)

Hey Vapers-

I've uploaded the first eight new In Stock Holders to the website. Clicking "In Stock Holders" will take you there. They're available for immediate purchase and shipping. Have a look-

Most have some or most of the holes flocked already. None of the bottoms have been flocked, but any additional flocking can be added to the holders, and will only delay shipping about 3 days. Expect four more stands to be ready in the next week or so - one Oak, and three various Maple holders - one laminated one that is Red, White & Blue.

I'm still a couple weeks out on the single PV Pyramid Holders, some that match the holders just placed on the website - a walnut/Padauk one, and a few of the five layer type along with some straight Walnut, Maple and Oak ones as well. Soon!

Cheers,

Rick

Hey all,

Just popping in to let you know I've been in and out of condition to get a lot done in the shop during the week. I still manage to get a good amount of time put in over the weekends.

I'm still busy with custom orders and have started sanding the single PV holders. The four remaining In Stock Holders are still waiting for my attention... Hopefully soon!

A regularly updated report of production progress is available on my website here. It tracks both custom orders and the progress on products for the website.

Thanks,

Rick

Hey everyone,

Finally back - with goodies! I've been playing round robin with doctors, ER rooms and hospitals the last six months - finally a little calm. I have been making woodchips in my shop whenever I have been able to, and have some new holders:
PYR-W.O.PH.O.W-1.jpgPYR-BLK.MAP-1.jpgPYR-Z.P.WE.P.Z-2.jpg
Starting at $20, these are just a few of the 14 new Weighted Bottom Single PV Holders now on my website in the "In Stock Holders" area, near the bottom. Just before, there is a few pics and some verbiage about how they are made.

There are also a couple larger holders that match a couple or few of the singles:
INSTOCK-14-LG.jpgINSTOCK-15-LG.jpg
Others are available as well. I'm currently photographing a couple more holders that should be up in the next couple of days.

Happy Holidays all!

Rick

ps: unfortunately, I am booked solid through the end of December right now, and can't start any new projects with delivery before the end of the year.
