I had 2 orders about 2 weeks ago that seemed to have gotten lost. They both spent days in different post offices and past their delivery date by about 3 or 4 days then suddenly they were here and the expected delivery days were changed to the current date. One was coming from Ohio and the other from Oregon to California. Something strange is going on I think.

First I was thinking there was something wrong with the tracking program because it did not change the entire time they were suppose to be in route. Then the one from Ohio suddenly changed the day it got here and then the same for the other order. I then wondered if there have been cutbacks or something or it was just a one time event. Who knows what it is but it would be interesting if it keeps happening to others if they posted here.

Here's an update. First package from LJ esmoke is still MIA and I never received a phone call yesterday as was told I would by two reps. Second package from Good Prophets showed up yesterday. I called USPS and they said that the first package is still under investigation but the notes said resolved. She advised me to call the local post office. When I inquired on what notes were showing on the second package, she said it was resolved and delivered twice, on 6/8 and 6/11.

Good news...I did receive my package from Liberty Flights, ordered on Friday. CA to FL in 4 days, nice!

Same situation recently happened to my customer I ship stuff to. I sent a priority package from NC to VA. She ask me where it was after a few days. Tracking showed it in California. I called usps and they told me that it should arrive by a certain date and a rep would call the next day. Never got a phone call. But the package did arrive a week longer than normal.

A few years ago my old mail carrier retired. The replacement carrier is dyslexic. No kidding. My address is 1307. I've gotten mail and packages for 1037 MANY times. They've gotten mine MANY times. My favorite is when the guy from 1037 brought us the box containing my wife's $130 running shoes. The only upside to this is that I've become friends with the guy at 1037. Why the HELL would USPS hire someone who is dyslexic to deliver mail? Yep, you guessed it.

I don't have any problems now that I live in a place where the mailman drives one of the little trucks around. When I lived in downtown savannah, though, where they usually walk, it was an enormous pain in the ... to get my packages. Especially the boxes of my tubing supplies (years ago when it was actually cheaper than premade cigarettes, it isn't really worth it anymore). They would often leave notices that they tried to deliver (even though i was home all day on account of unemployment) and i'd have to go down to the post office to get it. Or if they DID leave it, a few times i'd find cartons of cigarette tubes had been stolen from it.

he was also dyslexic. I was at 1212 and had the same last name as someone at 1313. Didn't become friends, because that guy kept at least two of my packages.

S'okay, i kept the box of DVDs from his sister.

So here's an update. Still no package from 6/7/12 and many to and from calls to the local post office. They haven't called me back since last Monday. So today I called USPS and they escalated my case so someone is supposed to call me. I did reorder from lj esmoke and received that package last week. I had to take it out of my neighbors mailbox. I had three packages today so maybe they are being more careful.
I just want to be reimbursed because I'm never going to see that first package. :(

I'm surprised UPS hasn't created a cheaper price for smaller items, creating competition for the USPS. At nearly $10 for ground shipping I understand why we don't use it. UPS needs to take advantage of the USPS failure rate. Anyone agree?

FedEx and UPS do actually carry some USPS material already .. I'd just as soon they buy out USPS and run it like a business ..

Problem with that is of course USPS operates under certain federally mandated requirements. If they were bought out and "run like a business" ... you wouldn't be able to get a letter to "Middle of Nowhere" Alaska for under 50 cents. USPS isn't the greatest most times, but they are not a business in the strictest sense.

Yes, I know the structure .. I've been in the mail order business for 35 years .. and I disagree with your statement .. economy of scale, infrastructure already in place, etc .. all indicate that FedEx / UPS could deliver the same service .. and IMO, it won't be long before we see $1.00 letter postage cost anyway .. by making USPS an efficiently run business, eliminating the fat (which is where the problems are) .. and so what if Nowhere Alaska has to wait a few extra days to get / send mail in order to make it at least break even to pickup / deliver ..
