Anyone up to try a new word game? No need to answer, this thread will just die if youre not. aCrossword is a game that uses elements from crossword puzzles. Think of it as a crossword puzzle that is layered instead of crossing directions.
Each post contains three elements:
- An answer-word that answers the previous post
- A bolded set of clue letters in the answer-word that will be part of the next answer-word
- A clue of any kind as to what the next answer-word may be
For example a series of posts might look like this:
CROSSWORD
Kinda like Scrabble but letters can be stacked
--------------------------------
UPWORDS
It's not smoke it's...
--------------------------------
VAPOR
This clue is too hard and we all give up
--------------------------------
UZZAPEREZ (see rules below as to why this is a possible answer to a difficult clue)
The rules of the game are simple -
Answer-words do not have to be exactly what the previous poster had in mind when providing clues; they only have to reasonably satisfy the clues.
There are no silly rules; well known proper names and ECF usernames, reasonably discoverable foreign words and colloquialisms, common acronyms - all that stuff is allowed.
Clues do not have to be simple or easy, only reasonably solvable. There are two methods of dealing with a post that has proven difficult to solve to the point that it appears to be killing the thread:
1. Request additional clues from the poster; chat and discussion between game postings is allowed and asking investigative questions can be part of the fun.
2. Acknowledge defeat and give up by using the previous poster's username as the answer-word.
