I mentioned in my intro thread that my parents are coming in for the week. Both have been smoking hard core for 30+ years. I got my dad a Ego tank kit and want to get him started right. I am also wanting to get my mom vaping as well. For health benefits more then anything else.

What flavors and mg would you recommend starting them out with?

Logic tells me the tobacco flavors and high mg levels to start. Would this be a correct assessment?

Hello rawzx9, it is so hard trying to find flavors you like, much less buying for someone else. I think your best bet would be getting a wide variety of sample juices, at least a dozen small sizes with flavors from fruit, coffee, tobaccos. I'd think a rang of nic also. Say 16-24 would probably be safe. Maybe even a 0 mg too. Good luck to your parents. I hope they take to vaping well.

Tastes are really subjective, but tobacco flavors are usually what will appeal to a cigarette smoker using an ecig for the first time. Some users do have a better experience with fruity flavors, however, which seem to help because they don't taste like cigarettes at all. In either case, go with an 18mg or higher and don't concentrate on nicotine reduction at first. Getting them satisfied with the ecig for a while is the most important first step, and if they are not getting enough nicotine, they'll be back on analogs soon.

Hey Rawzx9, I wish you all the luck! I like very much what you are doing. I'm a dad of a 25, 23, and 14 y/o children and they are so happy I could finally quit... I hope you parents are able to do the same for you! and for themselves.

As a 40 year smoker I was surprised that tobacco flavors were not appealing to me... I'm enjoying cherry, grape, peach... and I don't eat candy ever but those flavors give a good throat hit that I couldn't find yet in the tobacco flavors. I recommend you have some fruity @ 24mg

Bests!

As someone else stated this is probably very subjective. I personally have no desire to taste anything flavored. If I crave a flavor of something else, I'd rather have the something else.

I'm the same way with coffee though, but many people really love their flavored coffees.

It is probably a good idea to offer a variety of flavors though, but do make sure just "plain old tobacco" is one of them.

Also, "no flavor" is probably not a bad idea either.

I would recommend somewhere around 18mg to start out, and they can go up or down depending on their needs. In my opinion, I would avoid tobacco flavors entirely. The thing is, there's not a juice out there that tastes like a cigarette, I don't care what anyone says. It's just not possible because the combustion adds a certain flavor. There are juices that are pretty dang close to dead on to the smell of unburnt tobacco, but nothing tasted like cigarette smoke.

I would start them with something really simple, but good tasting. What are some of their favorite flavors? I'd suggest maybe a basic fruit flavor. Maybe coffee if either of them are die hard coffee drinkers. If they smoked menthol cigs, then menthol might be okay; in my experience it's less off than regular tobacco flavors, but still not the same. Maybe just a nice apple or pineapple flavor or something like that?

Oh, and last, realize that if they don't want quit smoking, and vape instead, nicotine content and flavor isn't going to matter. It's a decision they have to make for themselves, and you shouldn't feel responsible if your efforts fail.

I tried to convert my mother. As most have pointed out, flavor doesn't matter. They have to just like the taste. I was also wrong about the level nic my mom would want. 24mg was just too much.

Another point to tell your parents is to not just take drags like they were hitting an analog. My mom won't vape b/c she just can't get used to the "different" throat hit. She inhales for not even a second and starts coughing. I don't know how to remedy that.. so I have no advice other than to point it out. Hope you have better luck.

Good luck!

Excellent advice so far, and I think it's cool you are doing this! Just remember not be get frustrated or disappointed if they don't decide to convert...this is a big step. As a long-term, hard-core, heavily-addicted smoker I don't think anyone or anything could have convinced me to switch until I was ready.

Personally I don't care for tobacco flavors, because as someone else said - few if any are TRULY like smoking a cigarette. What convinced me to keep going was a: throat hit, which is of major importance to me so I've been satisfied with the 24-30-ish nic levels. And, b: really tasty juices; for me these are: bakery, coffee, candy types.

But the taste thing is SO subjective that I think the suggestion to have an assortment on hand is good.

If you want a light flavored juice that resembles the mellow flavor or of Camel Turkish blends (unburned) with fruit undertones I'll recommend Kamel Wow by Vapor for Life (V4L). Very nice all-day juice.

I have big trouble with most US juices. Most flavorings are way too strong for my taste, resembling cough syrup or artificially flavored juice icicles. Yuck.

Vapenstein, who really knows his stuff in my opinion, has been compiling a list of the best "analog replacement" juices, that give similar satisfaction to cigarettes. Here's the link:http://.............../ars. Be warned that a few of these juices, especially those made by Halo need a little time before they taste their best, so they might not be at their peak when you see your parents.

Another suggestion is to think of the type of desserts, beverages, etc. that they enjoy and maybe get some juices that reflect their taste somewhat. I agree that variety is probably key, and a sample pack would probably be a good way to go. Good luck!

I would go with a good ry4, but not all ry4's r created equal. I like ry4's that r more of a tabacco flavor with a hint of caramel and a little bit nutty with vanilla, I'm not a huge fan of the ry4's that taste like expresso and coffee, but taste is very subjective. U also can't go wrong with a good Marlborough or 555 juice to start.

I don't like anything remotely tobacco flavored. My best friend and I started vaping together. I stuck with it, she went back to analogs. I honestly think it's because the tobacco flavors didn't taste like a cigarette because when we took a trip and were in a nonsmoking hotel she loved my fruit and coffee vapes. My all day vape is a peach sweet tea from Kick Bass Vapor. It's light and refreshing for when I'm chain vaping. I like my coffee, cand bar, cake, and other bakery flavors in the morning.

Looking for something that replicates the flavor of a cigarette (or at least cigarette smoke) is a lost cause. It's not out there, and who would want to vape that anyway if it was? There are several great juices that capture various aspects of tobacco, but generally in its unburnt state, or in replicating the experience and flavor of a cigar or pipe. I love tobacco vapes and ironically, vaping has given me a greater appreciation for tobacco in all its forms beyond the cigarette.

In finding the juice that will convert the smoker, I think the thing to look for is something that captures the feel of smoking and satisfies in the same way. For that, throat hit, nic level, and vapor production are key.
