I intend, as a Christmas gift, to help a young couple (who have it tough financially) get off the analogues and into ecigs, as many of us like to do. They've tried mine and expressed an interest. My fear is to get folks started and then a ban to come along. Many of us stock up in case of the e-pocalypse, but this couple doesn't have the resources, in fact I will almost certainly be supplying them entirely (they have their challenges, and live on fixed disability income; they're not good with budgeting and often run out of food and money before they run out of month).
Of course back a few years ago, everyone was doing the same as now: bracing for all this to disappear. So far we're hanging on. I am well stocked myself. I figure we should help when we can, but I would feel terrible to get some one going with ecigs, then see them go back to tobacco...This young couple have a hard time with self control and would almost certainly back slide if I can't keep them supplied.

I'm interested in everyone's take on this. Thanks in advance!

how do they afford cigarettes??????? You might need to help them out at first, but eventually, the savings should help them get on their feet with paying for their own :) You are a nice person to help,,,,,,

could a ban happen? yeah,,,,,,it could,,,,,,,,,,but more likely, it will be a tax and regulation like happened with cigarettes,,,,,,get them into DIY, which is the cheapest way to go,,,,,,,,and they should be good to go to get around most of the bans that happen :)

when bans have happened so far, it's been places you can't use the e-cig,,,,,,,like public buildings, etc.

I am in full agreement of this advice. Once they are done buying smokes, they can put a portion of the money they are saving towards juices, or DIY supplies, and the rest towards food or other necessities. The cost will be substantially lower for them, especially since you will be giving them the starter gear, and they should see an IMMEDIATE savings.

I would not worry too much about the threat of a ban, *IF* this happens, they will already have the gear, and purchasing the materials for DIY juices should be easy enough. It would be almost impossible to ban the sale of the necessary ingredients to make DIY juices. The greater concern is getting them off of tobacco products and on to something healthier!

I like what you're doing, the gift of Vape! In my opinion, folks in their situation should learn how to wrap coils and make e-liquid. It's so much more affordable. If their disabilities prevent them from being able to do so, then having or finding vaping pals could take up the slack!

What makes this more difficult is that they don't have regular computer access or credit cards, and live over an hour away ( and we're working 13 hour shifts). I don't know if they'd be patient enough for DIY or rebuildables..in fact equipment could get lost or damaged. I will almost certainly be their source for everything...I wouldn't start this if I couldn't supply them myself, as long as supplies can be had...which is my worry.

...My fear is to get folks started and then a ban to come along.

I have been vaping since 2008. When I started, this same discussion was going on. People were buying 100mg nicotine by the quart knowing the FDA was ready to pounce.

Nobody knows, but I can see us still predicting doom and gloom in 2020.

Go ahead and give 'em the ecigs, and a couple of quarts of 100 proof nicotine if you're really worried.

getting a debit card is pretty easy,,,,,,even a green dot, re-loadable card is easy peasy and can be had at any walmart,,,,,,

if they have a phone, they could call you, have you order their stuff (delivered to their door) and use their card,,,,,,

but again, it's really nice of you to help them out :)

I really wouldn't worry too much about a complete ban,,,,,,,,,,personally, I think we need to be more concerned about TAXES. that's what we need to fight,,,,,,,,taxes. the last thing we need is to have people taxed right back to smokes.

I'm on a fixed income and have found the extra money from not smoking amazingly beneficial. My vaping costs are very low and I DIY. If you feel they take to vaping I'd definitely introduce them then to DIY. I'm sure you all will be able to figure out some way to make this work. I think your a Saint for doing this for them and I hope they know it. Good luck to you and them. Keep us posted perhaps we can help in some way.

They manage the tobacco by buying a big bag loose at the start of the month, and then roll their own. I all ready have equipment to give them...but I wouldn't give them the quart of 100mg nic...someone would probably take shots of it!!! Guess I better put away a couple of those myself; the quarts, not the shots!!! 8-o

as more big tobacco companies continue to move into e-cigs i doubt there will be a ban. They have started deeming e-cigs as smokeless "tobacco" trying to compare it to snuffs and chews and have realized that this is a growing profitable industry...so as far as a forseen ban probably not however more regulated sales mostly likely.
Currently Philip Morris, Lollard and R.J. Reynolds have their own e-cigs so don't fret over bans, just them trying to regulate it more into their favor.

I agree with what everyone has said here and you get a big  from me! As always, when you're trying to v-vert someone, take it a step at a time and see how they react and then decide the next step. Encourage independence but give help where needed.

When and if restrictions are placed on vaping, we're all in it together, and I've no doubt we'll find workarounds to keep vaping. Worry about that when/if the time comes. In the meantime, you're a Good Friend and you're doing a Good Thing!

Thank you all for your comments!! I will keep them supplied as long as I'm able...gonna keep them away from the gourmet juice tho!! I'll tell them I'll add to/upgrade their equipment in a month or so if they enjoy it, and I'd better find time to get DIY goin again. Hey it's a good thing to do with all that PAD+ money I'm saving, or would be saving if I could stop buying vape toys!!

You can only help them that help them selves , this is a fact .
Sorry but after giving and giving they will still need you to give or they will find some one els to help them .
The forever needy
No self console
Will back slide
Can't make or stick to a budget

Forever needy

Unless you know them personally, I don't think it's fair to make a judgement like this. I know quite a few people that were in this same position once, but have gotten past it and gone on to be self sufficient.
