So a friend of the family who is a 2 pack a day smoker actually shrank away from me in fear when I pulled my nemmy out for a vape while she smoked. Yes, I was almost offended/shocked/hurt by her action :p Well after talking with her for a half hour or so, she seem intrigued by the whole thing.. I told her to research it herself and come to her own conclusion and to ignore what she has heard from mainstream media. Its been a week and I have just heard that she spent almost 50 bucks and got a Blu starter kit, UGH >.<

I specifically told her that cig-a-likes often yield less than satisfactory results and many people go back to smoking using such products. I specifically told her if she wanted to try vaping, to call me and I would take her to a professional shop where she could try many options. Instead she got a damn Blu!

Another friend of the family was with this lady while she was vaping the Blu, and apparently when she vapes, no vapor even comes out when she blows. When she went to switch a cartridge, she was visibly nervous about getting any liquid on herself. I guess she didn't research very much at all. BUT, last I heard, she was only smoking 2-4 cigs a day... SO if she thinks its working, hell im not going to interfere. But damn, I hope she doesn't give up on it all. I heard the biggest selling points for her was that she didn't have to deal with e-juice, and loved the small size.

This brings me to an unfortunate realization... ecigs like the ego will NEVER be an option for her as long as she is scared of e-juice. Because even if I convince her it is easy to fill a tank with e-juice, the reality is that all tanks suck. Sure they can give great taste and vapor, but they all have the real possibility of being a leaky mess. In fact, I have yet to come across anything that is not a potential leaky mess. I write this as I deal with my dang KFL+ leaking out it's little airflow hole without warning. Its all over my bedsheets. The thing hasn't leaked on me in a while, I know what im doing. But its leaking! Pfft lol... She would flip the bleep out if I gave her an ego that wound up leaking in her 300 dollar purse. So cig-a-like it is for that lady...

Some people take smaller steps than others, that's just how it is. I'm sure she felt more comfortable with the Blu because, like she said, she doesn't have to deal with liquid and it's small and cigarette shaped. Even though it's not a cigarette, it's familiar to her.

Sure it's frustrating for experienced vapers because we see that and we're like, "No! Those things are crap! You're missing out on so much the vape community has to offer!"

Hell, I probably would have been the same way if my friend didn't vape. He explained everything over several conversations, showed me how it all worked, what the liquid was, etc. so by the time I got my first starter kit I didn't need any explanations.

Just give her time... She'll come around. She's smoking less cigs now so the way I see it she's won the first battle - she doesn't need to win the war overnight.

I think some caution is due concerning e-liquid. People have ended up in emergency rooms spilling e-juice on their bed accidentally.

I really do prefer cartomizers because they just don't leak very often and the polyfill holds the liquid. I have some CE4's and they are always dribbling a little out the bottom, so I can understand why someone would choose cartomizers. I'm not a chain vaper so I guess the cartomizer + drip tip suits me better.

For a light smoker, Blu is great, it feels like a cigarette and a tank setup is a poor choice because it just holds too much e-liquid and it's big and bulky.

Hey, for some people Blu is a turnoff and they do just give it up and head right back to smoking. But there are also a lot of people who found their jumping in point with the likes of Blu and just plowed straight ahead from there. For those people who at least got started there and with time found they wanted something better it still isn't a bad investment. Some people do have that "must look like a cigarette" mind block and it's better they start with a cigalike than to try and arm wrestle them into something they aren't mentally ready to embrace - like a nemmy. Best thing you can do now is be supportive and answer questions, without ...... all over the process.

I think it's GREAT !!

Thinking back I NEEDED the Blu !!! It felt like I was still smoking......"cig-a-like". It wasn't until I wanted "more" than what the Blu was giving me. Than I began to look for other options. I did whip through the cartridges though, but I think the feel was pretty important to me because I LOVED SMOKING !!!!!

Blu can be a great starter device. After using it for a while she may feel more comfortable with the idea of handling the eliquid herself & have a better idea of how to handle it. some people are very cautious when starting vaping & personally I think that's a good thing. It's better than being careless & doing stupid things as a result.

Perhaps you can help her out some by getting a few blank cartos that fit her Blu & filling them up with some of your favorite eliquids. If she sees that you can fill the cartos up she may be motivated to try this out herself.

A lot of people can be scared of the eliquid. When I first started vaping I was worried about any little spill soaking into my skin & giving me nic poisoning. Of course I have since learned that if you clean off your hands in a timely manner you'll be ok, but in the beginning I just didn't know that.

Also, Blu is a great device for someone who really needs the cigarette form factor. Maybe she'll need something more; maybe she won't.

Honestly, I have never even messed with these things, I wouldn't know how to fill a carto :D I guess I could watch some you tubes and show her how easy it is for a noob to do it... I always do research before I start something new, and I went straight to ego/evod tanks from cigs..

I started out with the blu, it frustrated the heck out of me! I couldn't get enough vapor and gave myself a sore throat trying to get a real hit off of them! Luckily I switched to my vaporizer where I can actually get vapor! Blu did noting for me but make me more frustrated. But some people have to find out for themselves I guess. My husband was the same way.he said his blus were fine until he realized he wasn't getting enough vapor and his batteries kept dieing on him. He didn't quit smoking until he starter using the vaporizer I got him.I completely understand your frustrations. You just want to scream hey there is a better way! If she was a smoker, she will likely make the switch to a vaporizer too once she reaches enough frustration with the blus. If she does not and is able to use the blus to quit then that's great! I know I couldnt. All blu did for me was make me frusterated! I guess for some people they work??

i would take her to the store and pick up some lor-ann oils, vg, cigarettes and maybe pg.

i'd stroll around her house and the bakery isle at the store and show her some products that she uses on a common basis that include those items.

then i'd convince her to let me moisturize her with her new moisturizers and add a little scent with the food grade flavorings she didn't know she likely eats all the time via store bought and bakery products.

last but not least, i'd rub her cigarettes into the whole ordeal on her hands and then say something to the effect of "now we see how long it takes for you to OD and die" with a smile.

then while she washes it all off, i'd rub my e-juice all over my hands while letting her know that i'm doing the same thing i just did to her without a few thousand dangerous and/or carcinogenic chemicals that were in her cigarette. once sufficiently rubbed in, i'd raise my hands to her nose and ask her how it smells.

i like to drive the point home. people i know, know this and most trust me with their lives. because of that and my personality, it would likely work to drive the point home. you'll have to find what works for you and her or just let it go until she asks for help.

good luck and congrats for the first break through.

wow...that sounds really serial-killer-ish if read out of context.

anyhoo...

i started with a cig-a-like, it was a super easy transition and very low complexity given that i knew almost nuthin aboot the hobby.

it's great she chose Blu over smoking. given time, and some encouragement, she'll eventually move onto to something better. but we all started somewhere, focus on the positive.

I think most people would prefer a cigalike with a pre-filled carto. Most people don't feel like messing with tanks and atomizers and weird batteries that aren't made by Duracell. They don't want to walk around with something that looks like drug paraphernalia. They just want the convenience that they enjoyed with smoking. If a company could master the cigalike with a great battery and cartos that aren't dried out, then they would make a fortune.
