It has been days since we have seen the situation evolve form the cold heat soldering iron, to the Weller that Hangtime modded and posted a video for.

I was disappointed to find out that Hangtime had to mod the BP860MP because the RCA jack type connector turned out to be bigger than a standard RCA.

I just received my Weller cordless soldering iron on the mail and I am not sure what happened, but I ended up with a similar but different model, the BP645.

I cut out the packaging, took it out, popped the batteries in, tested the tip to make sure it gets hot, and sure enough...

I waited a few seconds to let it cool off, pulled the tip off and to my astonishment it was a standard size RCA!

The device seems to be a lot smaller in size also when compared to the cold heat or the BP860MP and I had nothing to mod on it.
It fits very good in my hand just like most any box or flashlight mod.

Plugged in my 901 atomizer with my usual RCA adapter and voila!

This model uses only 3 AA batteries and does mot have a dual voltage selector switch.

A sliding switch that allows the push button on top to work and that's all.

Works really good at the 4.5v and it is a no-brainer for people that don't want or can't build a mod themselves.

Surbiton Pete has been the big time pusher of the cold heat concept and Big Daddy was the first one to point out the Weller might have an RCA alteady on it, I just confirm it when looking at pics, and now making it a 100% yes as soon as I got it in.

great descover warp ... but it seems i cant find it in my coutry local got any idea where could i get it with some decent shipping prices?

The credit is not for me to take, but thanks anyway Nforcer.

I would do searches for the model number BP645 and look for shipping prices, I really have no way to know how much it would cost for Romania.

This is only one place you can try:

Parts-Express.com:Weller BP645MP Battery Powered Soldering Iron | solder tin wire desolder cold heat portable battery powered

What I know is that SurbitonPete in the UK, had to pay more for it than we did here in US, but not sure about how much he paid for shipping.

I know there are many websites selling them, so if you are patient enough, you will find a reasonable price.
I ordered mine through Amazon.

Just another reason why building RCA connectors is the way to go. Glad to see that discovery is continuing to pay off Warp! :)

I'm still waiting on my 801 connectors (and batteries AND chargers...ugh Someone remind me, Registered Airmail is literally, for the birds...) Once I have those I am going to work on the RCA connectors and finish up about 3 or 4 mods. This one looks seemless, which is perfect for folks who are wanting to get into modding without having to deal with building a battery pack, and can just focus on building the RCA plug with the battery threads.

I almost wish that I would have started with this mod, as simple as it is, but I've learned a lot from working with the 2xAA box.

wow.....that's fantastic ...with your RCA mod for an atty that 3 battery model of the weller really is the easiest and cheapest way for anyone to get a good e-cig and it's not even too big by the looks of it. I also think the momentary button on the weller is a good one and will last for a very long time. It's perfect for someone that doesn't really want the bother of making a mod.
I got the larger dual heat four battery one from amazon uk for just over £25 ..post and packing would have been about four pounds.

What a nice surprise !

But must be a little dissapointed at having nothing to do ;)

Except write it up, of course.

I was actually hoping not having to do a thing, I just wanted to know how it feels for the first time hehe. :D

Yes Pete, and all thanks to your persistence about the cold heat.

I'll have to get one for my wife. Hand her the 645 and a modded rca jack and let her build her 1st mod. Easier than mac-n-cheese, lol.:D

If only the 645 had dual power.;)

Yeah Hang, dual power would just be perfect, but this was already beyond what I could expect.

Is the switch momentary or actually "off or on"?
I actually have one of these and it never even crossed my mind that the RCA connector was the same.
The switch is like a kill switch to prevent it from turning itself on. The slide switch goes forward so you can push the power momentary button down. And slides back so that when you push the button down it does nothing..
A Safety switch if you will!

That's the best part about it, the weller is basically a few modding Ideas for improvements to e-cigs and safety features all put together and made into a relatively cheap mass produced product. It could almost literally have been designed to be sold as an e-cig. All weller would have to do is change the soldering tip connector for an atty connector.....stick a couple of atties in the case it comes with, instead of soldering tips and that's it job done...a nicely packaged all ready for the market e-cig and instead of the hundreds of pounds now being charged for these kind of mods. They could be selling them within a month for little more than 20 pounds.

I realized this is an old thread, but I just came across it and realized I have one of those Weller jobs sitting in a junk box. I was actually thinking about digging it out the other day as I was contemplating what type of mod I wanted to make and what tools I would need.

I guess my plans for my first Mod have just changed. Now all I need to do is order some connectors to make the RCA mod.

As this thread is old enough does anyone involved have input on how well these work over time?
