Should I also assume any wicks used would have been contaminated?
You can always juice burn a wick if in doubt.

True! The problem with twisted wire is that even with a perfect coil wrap, you are always going to have some gaps between the wick and the wire - they're small, but you've got a whole bunch of them thanks to the no-longer perfectly round wire. Twisted wire causes far more problems than it solves. You are far better off spending the 10 bucks to order a roll of 30g wire off of e-bay and waiting the three or four days for it to come in.
I cannot order wire for another 2 weeks unfortunately. All of the cash I have needs to go to gas getting to and from work.

Also, Watt, your wall of text was inspirational and made some of the things stated previously make a little more sense. I appreciate the time you took to write your wall.
Also, a little off topic, does anyone know if the A7 has issues getting a long with EGO batteries?
Edit: I finally chucked the entire ....ing thing at the wall. Everytime I wrap a coil, the bottom 2/1 coils come loose.

Want to sell it? Or Send it to someone on here and let them wrap then send it back so you can examine a working coil. Don't give up. Or try a Smoktech RSST. I never wrapped until now and everytime I have it's worked perfectly even my first. Ihave only changed the metal mesh but just keep using the same two mesh I have. Waiting on some 28 gauge, only have 32 and getting 1.7 OHMs.

You can twist the entire coil around the wick to get rid of any slack before attaching to the center post.

Just give it a rest and let your brain digest your attempts. Doing so is the only reason I still possess some resemblance of sanity.
So maybe wrap the coil with it attached to the negative lead, remove it, tighten it, reattach it?'

I actually tried using my A7. I somehow screwed the original coil that came with it and went to rebuild that too, same horrifying metallic taste.
Anyways, the reason I wanted to find someone in Columbus was so I could meet up with them and see how they wrap coils. First hand insight is best.
Also, ....ed 4 more coils today.
You've now, while on it's side, removed the vertical resistance (gravity), and are now at the mercy of that same gravity. Make sure the air hole is facing up. If you leak from your seals, well, then it's the seals.
Also, if your wick is considerably smaller than it's destined hole, the juice will run out no problem.
just finished building a new coil, and i have to be honest, although i consider myself an experienced user i understand the frustration the beginners are going through. its a metal touching metal touching metal setup. they have to come up with something new. this thing is just hard sometimes
I found twisting my 34 awg kanthal into whatever gauge that equals out makes my aga t2 real easy this past week. I have much more manageable hotspots and I don't get spontaneous hotspots like I did with a single 34 guage coil..I also make sure the wick is as close as possible to the positive post in order to keep the coil between the two short distance. btw i'm getting 1.8 ohm reading with 4/5 wraps.
I may have just coiled a twisted 34g @ 1.7 ohms. Not really 100% sure as I basted the wick and coils with minty chocolate, which tastes absolutely horrifying, but we'll see here in a few.
E: No burnt or metallic taste! Time to work it around a little bit more to get a stronger vape.
Progress? I think I figured out one of the main things I've been doing wrong, and it's setting my first coil too close to the base of the device.
E: Slightly re-wrapped, sitting at 2.0 Ohms. bottom coil is off of the bottom of the device, and it's vaping at 3.7v with flavor, without metallic or burnt taste. Once I up the mod to 4.8v, I start getting a burnt taste from the vape. Tomorrow, I will empty the tank, burn off the juice and take pictures of the coil cold and hot as well as burning juice. For now, off to bed.

hope someone can point out what is wrong with mine. I think I have 2 problems. First of all, how I did it. Well, I did the same as what people suggested. Torch the ss to bark red while moving it around the torch. Dip in water. Repeat several times. Then roll it and slip it into the coil. I installed the coil first. Put some efluid on it and burn it with the e-cig. Sometimes, it create flame on my e-cig and I left it burn. I repeat each steps several times. When I vape, there are 2 problems.
1- very little vape. No where close to my startdust and MT3.
2- smell/taste so bad. Worse than burning a piece of paper. It also has a little metal burning smell/taste. When I inhall it anyway, it burn my throat so bad.
Can someone point out what I missed?

you probably are doing many things wrong but you might want to start your own thread possibly with close up pictures so ppl can help

I also had low vapor and realized my air hole in the cap was on the opposite side of the wick as Yeti mentions.
Also IMO it is very hard to get a nice snug coil if you build the coil first and slip the wick in. You dont want it pinching but you also dont want it to loose and no gaps for sure between the coil and wick.
Im sure there are many reasons for low vapor production but you cant get an easier solution then to move the air hole first.

I've been wrapping the coil directly onto the wick, as well, I have the air hole right on the wick!
