To tap on the thread a bit on rba stuff.. I saw many diff "rating" of kanthal wire what's diff does it affect? 28/30/32awg

Just starting to try out rba, totally new. Just looking thru YouTube for tutorial on building. Also I notice usually ppl uses Ss mesh or silica wick, I know from reading thru some post the preference is subjective to each. Ss mesh seems many works to do but I do see those "ready to use" Ss mesh around too..

There is awg and swg. Ppl here usually uses awg as the unit. It mean American Wire Guage.
32 AWG is 0.20320mm
30 AWG is 0.25400mm
28 AWG is 0.32004mm

So u can see the smaller the AWG the larger diameter, meaning the larger the diameter the lower the resistance with the same amount of wrap.

Think of the wires as water pipes; Big pipes allows more water to flow through (less Ohm), Small pipes limits the flow (Higher Ohm).

When you use low resistance wire you can coil more rounds onto the wick, effectively maximising heating area and thus producing more clouds and flavours are enhanced.

AWG is a fairly common term for wire size referencing; the higher it goes, the thinner it gets. 40AWG is hair thin!

Thanks, I understand now :)

Another question, I've read SS mesh can last couple of months. How long generally does a setup last till the next rebuild? Does silica wick or ss mesh last longer? If a Ss mesh can last couple of month, those "pre-roll ready to use" seems to be a better option as I'm not a good DIY person :p

1) Depends on usage/personal pref. (I change every 2-3 days, or immediately when I switch flavours)
2) SS mesh will out last silica hands-down.
3) "Pre-roll" or not, it's a question of economy. Besides, how much do you trust the quality of pre-roll? It's not that difficult to roll your own.

I've got an AGA T+ & using 32 AWG coil, I got about 1.6 ohms. Is this in the normal range? Vaper is good but I'm looking to increase the amount of fog. Currently using 70/30 juice on lavatube at 4V. Reckon I should step down to lower resistance to achieve better fog?
1) Mine reads 1.7 at 8 coils (32AWG, Twisted).
2) To increase fog, refer to previous reply.
3) Each has their own 'Sweet-Spot'. Experiment till you're satisfied.
The general rule for me is; if it's good enough, don't itchy hand and make better. Leave it for next coil change. Saves the trouble and disappointment.

That's chiminology.. Ss method still got oxidized and unoxidized.. Unoxidized still got use cotton, pulsing etc etc .. Lot to learn and read up before my first experiment. Just ordered some mesh as well as silica wick.

Should there be a slight cap between the wick and wick hole or should it fit tightly/loosely?

techically you want it to fit as tight as possible. a gap between the wick and the wick hole depreciates capillary action and causes steeping.

in less chim terms, less capillary action = poorer wicking

steeping is when heat and burnt/condensed juice flows back down through that gap to darken and deflavourise your juice in the tank.

Anyone tried the petar k method.

https://vimeo.com/48356854

How many of u here oxidize your wick ?

yeah i tried the petar k method a few days back. its only gonna work right if ur wick is nice and tight.

otherwise your coils won't be properly in contact with the wick once you slide it in and eventually you will get hotspots.

i find its more useful for twisted kanthal, cause it makes it easier to coil (twisted kanthal being very tense/unspringy and stubborn)
