The juice contains propylene glycol, which is "Generally Recognized As Safe" by the FDA.

Propylene Glycol

Propylene glycol is metabolized by animals and can be used as a carbohydrate source. Propylene glycol can be ingested over long periods of time and in substantial quantities (up to 5 percent of the total food intake) without causing frank toxic effects. Propylene glycol monostearate is readily hydrolysed in vivo and the propylene glycol and fatty acid moieties enter their respective metabolic pathways. At lethal or near lethal doses (6 g per kg or more), however, it has been reported to cause kidney damage in several species and toe deformities in chicks. These doses contrast with the few mg per kg per day estimated in Section III of this report to be the human daily dietary intake of propylene glycol. The Select Committee has weighed the available information and concludes that: There is no evidence in the available information on propylene glycol and propylene glycol monostearate that demonstrates, or suggests reason to suspect, a hazard to the public when they are used at levels that are now current or that might reasonably be expected in future.

Product from non-reputable sources could be contaminated with diethylene glycol, which has also occurred with toothpaste, but there's no lie-and-defamation machine telling people that all toothpaste is deadly.

these articles are all over, intentionally written by hired hacks and PR firms of big tobacco. they are doing a MASSIVE smear campaign all over and are terrified of e-cigs. now of course, big tobacco could make their own e-cig and sell it, but it seems they got so crooked along the way they're incapable of selling anything other than death that looks cool along the way. its a massive, massive misinformation campaign designed to a) discourage smokers to make the switch, b) make the general populace afraid of them and afraid of their safety, and c) demonize them to make it so e-cigs can't get smoked indoors like their product, which they believe is a large part of why people are switching.

this is an elementary game they've played for years and years and years. and we all now they fight dirty as hell. don't be fooled when it looks like a random blogger/whichever.

what is disturbing is they have convinced a lot of people of this and bought out decision makers (nothing new there). the e-cig community needs a LOBBY. big tobacco's power is startling and they are in bed with the government. their resources would boggle the mind. but hey, addicting people to something they need every hour for life rakes in the big bucks ya know.

This is an example of a blog level editorial piece in which the writer can say anything they want and not have to provide references for source information.

The TRUTH is that 1 of 18 samples did have DEG detected, likely from a contaminated bulk source of PG. While this is a consideration, DEG was only found in samples of juice from China. This is also a problem with toothpaste made in China that is said to have tested positive for DEG. Buy your juices from USA makers and this won't be a concern.

The carcinogens the article talked about were in trace levels. This is because the nicotine is extracted from real tobacco and comes from the same sources as the nicotine in nicotine gum. The same trace levels are in Nicorette gum, which is FDA approved. I recall 8 ng/ml which is something like 1000 times less than in tobacco cigarettes.
