Every device has its own resistance to electron flow from battery, through the mod (battery tube, whatever you're using), switch, basically everything that's in the circuit.

Springs are not great at providing a very low resistance path for electrons. They have two connection points, for one, and unless they're made of certain materials they provide quite a bit of resistance themselves -- they bottleneck the electron flow.

So putting a spring in place of what's normally a solid rod (the center piece that goes from the positive 510 pin to the top of the rba where the coil attaches) provides additional resistance over using just the solid rod.

This will translate to increased voltage losses (generally in the form of heat at the spring), meaning less voltage at the coil, where you need it.

You sir, are the man. That neatly covers everything i was wondering and taught me much, much more. This is the second RBA for me ever (Soooo dumb of me) so regardless i'm gonna try to squeeze 40$ worth of use out it even if the voltage drop is much worse than the Cobra. Why they didn't put a pin in this model i'll never understand...

Free vela for the first person to show me a "non photoshoped" air hole on the cap for this RBA.
