Have you looked into a PayPal debit card? It links to your PP account and can be used just like any debit card. You are never responsible for unauthorized charges & you can just keep whatever amount in your PP account, so you don't have to worry so much. Just an idea......

I thought PayPal was no longer honoring e-cig/e-liquid purchases....

I'll have to look into it - but tbh I'd like to know for sure first if Ahlusion would take it, since they are the only place that doesn't accept the Kaiku. Otherwise, what I have now is great. I keep just what I want to spend in it for a very reasonable monthly charge, it's accepted just like any other Visa debit by everyone except Ahlusion, I have no responsibity for unauthorized charges, it works with EFT for easy transfers or can be loaded as needed at various physical locations such as CVS. I can use it with pin or signature as desired. No inactivity fees, no usage fee, can do mobile money deposits, can do paypal transfers. While there is not a physical bank to walk into it is otherwise every bit a debit card - the same as Paypal or any other should be. I don't know what it is with Ahlusion's storefront software that sees it as a gift card, while all of the other businesses who declined the gift cards in the past will accept this one. ..and I don't know why someone else can use an actual gift card even wih them but I can't. Hmmm... I'm thinking it must be a conspiracy to keep me from A+ juice. ;->

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll definitely research it!

Off topic May but one sure way to both establish credit and to be upgraded to a secured credit card is with a Collateral Account. Your credit card limit equals the amount of money in your Collateral Account. You deposit $300 and there is only a $25 annual fee. Most banks offer this. I know WF does. Unlike what you and clnire do, a Collateral Account is a bank account in the name of a borrower that serves to secure and service a loan. It is considered essentially a zero-balance account and it cannot be drawn upon like a checking account. Mind you the rate will be around 18% but if you stay on top of things when your review comes up, you can be upgraded to a secure Credit Card. That's the ticket because the issuer of the catd is responsible for any fraud charges. Where with pre-paid you can't get your money back. You are just not responsible for the loss due to fraud.

Since 99% of Home Depot nationwide was hacked and CC info stolen, you can bet a small business can be hacked into rather easily. Then there is Malwear on your PC. Malware, short for malicious software. These programs do not need your consent to operate, and are designed to harm or secretly access your computer and its information, causing your personal information to be transmitted to thieves. It a good idea to not only keep up with your bank statement, but every 6 months spend the $50 on a good PC repair shop to clean your PC up for you. I had some Malwear attached to MP3 Rocket and I thought that was a safe download. Nope.

I also congratulate you!
I'm coming up on reaching the amount of time of my previous longest (only) quit and that's a small milestone for me.

Congrats! I would say that is a huge milestone rather than a small one! Hope you treat yourself with something nice to celebrate.

Yeah, thank you for the tips. =) Realistically though, re-establishing credit just doesn't make much sense at all for me, for multiple reasons I won't go into here. Apart from my inability to choose wisely with the recent Ahlusion dilemma, I don't expose our checking accounts at all anymore - I won't even pump gas or use ATMs now that I know about skimming. I will continue to check my account several times daily - if there is any fraud I won't have any questions how it arose! As for ordering from Ahlusion I'll either come up with a sensible, secure solution or just not get those treats anymore. I'm way up on keeping my computers clean at least.
