I was a menthol smoker for over 30 years. vaping has literally been a lifesaver for me. I would quit sometimes and then go back. I now have no desire for cigarettes and it has been over five years since I quit. Desperado is a good suggestion as a substitute for analogs. I did a review and I mentioned it is the closest to smoking, imo. I am in love with Sleighride. It is the juice I cannot be without. I prefer the mint to menthol, now. Strong, but delicious mint mixed with incredible seasoning. Sometimes I get extra mint. I have purchased hundreds of bottles of juice and I have several I enjoy but, overall, Ahlusion is my favorite vendor.

I haven't tried Sleighride, I am going there tomorrow to pick up my other order ,so I will order a small bottle of Sleighride

My Bad it's five levels. Starting out with a mint and going to full blast. Breeze, flurries,Chill, Frost and Artic Blast. They also have a juice called menthol ward for those that can't get enough. I don't think it is available in the express line though and maybe a custom order only.

If you are trying to quit you are probably looking for that strong top note we got used to with smoke. Ahlusion's juices are somewhat complex and generally layered. And yes, I thought people were crazy when they told me that. I still chase the strong top note a bit but now I know exactly what they meant. Also some of that stuff you don't like right now you probably will in a couple of months. If you get off the stink sticks that is. It does something to our taste buds that take a little while to recover.

I would recommend asking them about some strong top note juices that work well with menthol. The winter Wildwood is the only mentholated Tob they have but you might ask about getting some added to Desperado. From starting out it tasted the most like an old cig to me. I don't do menthol though. The W&A Sasparilla has a strong top note too. Might try it and see if they can menthol it up.

Good luck and stay with it. I worked Cigs and vape for a few months before I got clear of the smoke. Coming up on two years of smoke free. Remember too with the custom made line the juices need some time to gel or steep. Depending on the juice its usually from two weeks to a month before they hit their sweet spot.

You can read a lot more about Ahulsion juices in this thread:

Cigarettes in general don't have complex layers of flavor. Smoking also messes with our taste buds, at least for most of us. Until we get away from them a while we don't notice or can't tell the subtle different flavors in the juice blends.

I am probably going to mess this up badly but here goes.... Try to think of it like a juice is a band. Cigarettes are a screaming lead guitar and we like screaming lead guitars. So much we really don't care about the rhythm guitar, bass and drum propping up the screaming guitar. We crank up the lead solos and skip the other parts. For us the lead guitar is the top note or main note/feature and very prominent.

Or maybe another way is a hamburger. The bun, the pickle, mayo, mustard accompany the meat and act in concert to give us an overall taste. What if the meat was missing or hidden by other stuff on the bun so much you could barely tell there was meat there at all? Most in general eat a hamburger for the meat. You want more meat than bun, mayo, mustard, pickle etc. The meat would be the top note.

Or here is my last attempt... promise...we all hear frequencies a little different so we tweak the equalizer on the stereo to make the sound more pleasing to us. If we don't hear the upper end of the sound register that well, we will crank up the treble to make up for the fact we don't hear that part of the sound spectrum that well. Smokers taste buds are muted somewhat, we need to crank the treble up to get the same "taste"/ experience as folks that hear that end of the sound spectrum well.

Or the top note on a juice is the main flavor component. When we are new to vaping we generally need to have it turn up some in order to taste it properly.

Hope this incoherent ramble helped some. (ECF Veterans HELP!)

Haha, made total sense to me, I thought it was a great description. Some people experience flavors as color but I've experienced them more as sound, and find it easiest to describe layers that way. High notes, medium notes, bass or low notes. Fuzzy/buzzy feel like a guitar with distortion. Playing as a single note or two, or like a chord. Bright or round. Etc. etc.

Top notes I've thought of as mainly bright, high notes that play as the main note coming through, but your description expounds on that and explains it well to me. Artificial tobacco flavors that have that biting high note I think of as having a strong high note. Doesn't remind me of tobacco, but sure does something to scratch a cigarette itch.

Thanks, I get it
So I guess smooth criminal would be Top note, I am not sure why but on the website They don't offer the option to add menthol To it,
I will ask Wlad about it next time I stop in there.
Anyway I like the flavor of the smooth criminal but There is no menthol in it, So I mixed some up, With some menthol I got from Mt Baker Vapor, After some testing I ended up liking Two parts smooth criminal, One and a half parts menthol, Actually like it alot.
Hopefully Wlad can fix me up with something like that, Because I really don't want to have to screw around and Mix stuff up, Just get what I need from ahlusion And vape it
I also added a little Menthol to the sweet chill And really like that too

You can add a menthol in the comment section. I think there's five levels, a couple being mint and a few being menthol. Something like that anyways. Email Wlad to see what he thinks what level of menthol would be best for you to request.

If you haven't had Sahara Blend, it's worth checking out for a strong top note. It plays more like a synthetic tobacco instead of Smooth Criminals extracted tobacco flavor. Easily the most cigarette-like that Ahlusion offers. The juice smells like a freshly opened pack of Camels.

You are so lucky to be that close. He was very patient with me too but on e-mail. Heard that a lot about him. Not sure where he gets all the time and patience.
They do build custom juice profiles based on your preferences. Might ask the best way to get that built for you. For us geographically challenged, it is through the product feedback channel online. I am betting they will menthol up the SC for you unless it will destroy the flavor profile of the juice.

Don't forget to try the Melon Berry Frost next visit. It's not a tob but it scratched that itch pretty well for me when I was new. It also fits very well with a menthol boost.

And Jerms, very funny since you and Mann and GThompson and EleanorR and some others is where I learned it all in the first place.:toast:
