Hello. I am new to this forum. I am currently smoking about a pack a day and have tried just about everything to quit smoking. I have 2 family members who have been using a t-Rex for several weeks and seem to like it. They let me try it and I didn't think the vapor was very good, fairly week. I have been researching the Internet for 2days now and I think I have narrowed down my choices. I don't like the idea of holding down a button. I guess I could learn to live with it. I work outside all day at different locations so something big is out of the question. But I need something that lasts all day. I want a lot of vapor and good throat hits. I am leaning toward the volt with the pcc. I am looking for the perfect pv. Anyone have any good suggestions, advice? Thank you in advance.

I'm way too new to give any advice (my husband handed me one of his smaller mods and said, "try this one" and it worked). I am just now starting to understand what all of the abbreviations and numbers mean, lol.

But I wanted to say welcome and this really does work. I hope you find the right equipment for you!

well congrats on deciding to make the switch the volt isn't a bad PV it wont last all day I own a auto volt it's not a bad PV but it's not perfect I only use it when I'm playing a video game and need hands free vaping I get about 3 hours out of a battery, it probably hit's harder then the t-rex because I think the t-rex is 3.2 or 3.4v and the volt is regulated 3.7v

WELCOME TO THE ECF

To tell you the truth. There is no such thing as a perfect pv. It's ironic though, the way I found the ECF was by googling, "best ecig". Everyone has their preferences as to what works for them. I can easily tell you that bottom feeders is the best thing I've ever used. Which is true for me but, it might or might not work for you.

So, you will have to do a bit of research. The VOLT is a good starting point and can be used when your out and about. Depending on how heavy you vape then it can last you all day. Like the ones that I have and still use them when I'm out and about. If your interested in a big batt like the T-rex then another suggestion is a KGO. Which is a 4.2-3.7V e-cig that will give you plenty of power along with long battery life.

The benefit of a manual that requires you to press a button. Is that the battery itself isn't prone to being damaged if e-liquid enters the center pin. Also, if there is a longer cut-off that gives you a chance to take a longer drag. Which will improve the amount of vapor as well as TH.

Welcome Eric
washvap is right, there isn't a PV that is perfect for everyone, best plan is to work out for yourself what features your current device is lacking for you and then ask questions here as to what device would fix those issues. And yes imo also, the benefits of a manual button outweigh the slight hassle of having to press a button. The buttons are generally placed right by where your thumb rests anyway. Certain mods may have buttons in different places but they are nearly all designed so that the button is not a hindrance.

It would help me to find what you need the most:
  • Quantity of Vapor
  • Heat of Vapor
  • Taste
  • Long Battery Life
  • Small Size
  • Price Range
  • Ease of Use
  • Upgrade Options

The button, yeah I thought it would be an issue too, becomes second nature very quickly. Plus, I have tried a couple of automatic battery units and did not like the draw nor the lower vapor they produced.

Quantity of vapor, good TH, I work outside all day and smoke at least a half of a pack of Marlboro lights while I work. So a long lasting battery or a good pcc is a must. Price is no problem. Small size seems important because I want the ease of use just like the real thing. I enjoy the bar seem and I need a cig between my fingers while I have a good stiff drink in my other hand. That is why I was leaning toward the volt. All of the reviews I have seen have indicated that the volt is best suited for me. However you never know the motivation behind a review. I am concerned that what is claimed and what is reality might be very different. For example will 2 78 mm batteries and a pcc with extra carts in my pocket get me through the day as claimed. Does it really hit good with good TH. I know that damage to the battery with overfilling is an issue but I have seen enough info on how to avoid this problem. I am still open to suggestions I just feel for me to make the initial switch it will have to trick me into thinking I smoking the real thing.

I understand the mindset EricD, I really do.

Let me offer something that may be counter to accepted wisdom, go with the Volt.

It's a fairly good unit and not that expensive. Plus it may just work the way you need.

Here is why I say go with the Volt:
To get huge amounts of vapor then a higher power source and a mid-to-high VG juice content is needed. High wattage, or power, units tend to be more expensive and you haven't had one in your hand for a few days yet to get your mind settled. Higher wattage vaping takes more thought into atomizer or cartomizer selection, but the Volt takes no thought on that part. You can up the vapor production with VG content in your juice.

Throat Hit comes from nicotine strength first and power second. Nicotine is a function of the juice.

High power units tend to be larger, but have great battery capacity. A pair of batteries and a PCC will get most vapers through a workday. (I required 4 batteries and a PCC when I started, but I was far from typical.)

Add that all up and I'd say go with the Volt to get started, but get a selection of juice flavors with at least 30% Vg content at a range of 18-36mg nicotine strength. I think once you find a juice that works, you can refine your parameters of what your hardware needs to give you.

Full disclosure - I use a ProVari, another variable volt tube mod that nobody has ever heard of nor can buy anymore, and have a VVproV on order, but I started with a standard Joye 510 with PCC. Starting the way I did, I was able to figure out exactly what I needed from my hardware and experiment from there.

Also, get a few more posts under your belt and check into the Hoosier Vapers forum as we hope to get another meetup going in a month or so. You can see what others are using, samples some juices, talk to vendors, etc and get a good feel for what those pictures on the internet really are. (Link in my sig)

Qualify this with I don't know squat and the technobabble is harder than Latin for me....

I was a pack a day smoker and I quit analogs on January 6th. I started vapin' with a 510 kit and 10 Dakang 24mg USA Mix (straight tobacco flavor) cartridges. First night I smoked an analog because both batteries were charging (I'd given one 510 to my wife to try). Next day I bought her her own 510 kit; and, I picked up a couple of 10ml bottles of 26mg USA Mix (Marlboro) juice. I bought the juice because after 6-8 hard pulls on the 510 the cartridges delivered weaker hits. The following week I bought a personal charging case (PCC) so I could pack around a backup battery, couple of extra cartridges, and a spare atomizer. I'm a belt and suspenders kind of guy. About ten days ago I picked up a pair of Boge VEC (similar to the Ego-T) starter kits and I love the VEC. The VECs are our relaxing at home machines because we both prefer to carry the 510s away from home.

I still like my 510s with the 220/240 mAh batteries (the medium length ones....forget about the shorties) and topping off my original cartridges (I still have seven of the original 10 in their sealed packages) with 26mg juice. I also have 510 tank kits but they don't get much use. I like a hit like a size 12EE logger boot to the chest and throat....my 510s give me that for a half dozen pulls or so before I have to switch cartridges or top one off.

I'm leaving the house for a few hours. All batteries are up and units are filled and ready to go....I'm taking a pair of 510s and the loaded PCC. I can do a ten hour day with that package.

BTW....I vape less than I smoked because by the time I switched I'd gotten a handle on my smoking "triggers." That's half the battle right there.

Good luck.

It sounds to me like your instincts are spot on, based on what you're looking for.

The volt is a KR808, which is what I started with too.

It has great vapor production for its size. The vapor it produces is also quite hot, which gives good throat hit. The battery delivers 3.7 volts, which you'd otherwise only get with Riva/KGo style batteries and above. It also lasts longer than 510s of the same size. Going from smoking a pack a day, I only had to charge it about twice a day to keep up. That's with just one battery. With two of them and a PCC, you should be in good shape. As for carto life: My first week I used 11-12 cartos vs the to 6-7 packs of camel 99s I would have smoked otherwise. Overall, it's as close to a real cig feel as it gets.

Do note that even at that size, it can never be exactly the same as a real one. It's still heavier. It's hard. Holding it in your mouth, hands free, generally doesn't work too well. Most tobacco flavors aren't anywhere near the real thing. Definitely not the prefilled carto flavors. Nothing is burning, after all. At the very best, you should only expect it to taste the way tobacco smells when not lit. Although there are some liquids out there that try to imitate the burning tobacco taste.

Automatics are really convenient seeing as you just drag on them and they work. But a manual button gives you more control. You can get more vapor and better taste out of it, once you get the hang of it. Just takes some experimenting till you have a technique you're comfortable with down. Using the button quickly becomes second nature, too. You don't even think about it after a while.

Edit: But if you feel an automatic is what would be best for you, don't let anyone deter you. Manuals do force you to hold it differently. My first one was automatic and it got the job done. I'm still here, after all. And while I have many other options now, I still use it when I'm out and about. Just "blends in" better. For the most part, only smokers notice it's not real. Most people will glance your way, see you holding something white and yellow with a red glow on the end, and move along without second thought.

I haven't really had any leakage issues with mine at all. If you're paranoid, you can unscrew the carto when you're not using it and put the rubber plugs back on it. But, unless overfilled, KR808 cartos are very reliable in that department.

I agree with the volt, its a great first purchase. Also I started with 11 mg nicotine and had to jump to 24 mg to satisfy me and kick the habit for good. Now 4 weeks later I have moved to 18 but I smoke more and blow thru more cartos and miss the TH. I. am really considering going back to 24. We will see.
