I quit smoking several years ago, quitting was not a problem, I understand it's hard for tons of people. For me I stopped for 2 main reasons. I stopped liking the smell (actually started finding it repulsive for some reason) and the health issues.

I find myself occasionally missing it though. I won't get a pack of cigarettes because again the smell, and ect.

I literally just heard about this kind of device last night, so did some reading and still not sure I have found a recommendation for what I want. The basics for the product as I understand it meet my two requirements. Not bad for you health wise, and no smell... I still don't really get how you breath out steam? water vapor but whatever.

I don't plan to use this to quit, I plan to use it when I want that.

Not something light and wispy to step down from regular cigarettes on the way to quitting.

I'll probably make my own battery mod it seems many reviews and feedback issues come from a the crappy battery, and have already read many times on the forum someone thinking they had a crappy e-cig til they put on a real battery and poof it works awesome. I'd like to go ahead and skip that part if it's such an issue. I can't post in the other forum so will ask here. Do any of those people that post the battery mods sell them? Depending on the price I'd buy one instead of finding my old tools. Does anyone on the site makes the whole starter kit? If it matters, the cosmetics of the device mean nothing to me. I am actually pretty surprised almost all of the devices I have found on other sites are the form over function based.

With all the info I have given above is there any particular item that stands out to you that would be good for me that you'd recommend?

After several years do you really want to go back to a nicotine addiction? You may want to vape no nicotine liquids but I am not sure how much pleasure this would give without the nicotine "kick" the brain expects.

I hadn't really thought about the addiction part... It wasn't hard to quit regular cigarettes, I don't think this would be any different. I still drink caffeinated sodas, and occasionally some oreos so I think I can find a proper balance between vice vs doing something that you want to do.

Thanks for the link DC2 will watch the video, and look into that device

^if you dont care about looks at all and are worried about batteries, you might want to skip the commercial e-cigs (or at least batts) and go directly for a mod.

from what ive read (im a bit strapped for cash so i havent tried anything yet) you might want to check out the CHUCK or the juice-box, search for them within ECF (too lazy to post links).

Edit: watched the video, and the "Bartleby" just seems to be the battery. Is that all that really seems to matter for E-cigs? If I did get that battery mod, I wouldn't need a regular starter kit. Any recommendations for kits that are minus the battery part?

EDIT: you posted while i was typing :)

start kits might be a waste of money for you. they are cheap because they come with a charger and batts. if you dont want standard batts then you dont need a charger. just look for attys, carts, and juice. just make sure the atties and carts are for the same model so they fit

I don't know if they go 0 nic you can always cut with a high alc with like everclear for the hit. I know a few people that wanted to buy a ecig from me, I sold them but I refuse to sell them nic if the have quit.
I think it is an option they should have. Most just really miss the hand to mouth.

I don't really drink either. I probably wouldn't mess with making my own "packs" or what not for quite a while. I did some looking around and the cartridges, and liquid parts seem to be fairly inexpensive. Atomizers on the other hand seem to go up and down quite a bit. How much should the 510 atomizers go for on average, and about how often do you have to replace that part?

$7 if you order from China, maybe $10 if you order elsewhere.
They will cost less if you find places that have 5-packs.

As far as how long they last, nobody knows, anywhere from one week to six months.
Just get 5 and see how things go for you.

I dont recomend vaping to anyone who has been absent from smoking for years.

Probably not a good health choice and since you had no issue with quitting this probably isnt for you.

Not to be too critical - I don't engage in that sort of forum talk, but I am constantly surprised by the number of vapers who tell people that if they aren't heavily addicted to smoking that vaping isn't for them.

Look at the number of people in here - the community - it's attractive - it's supportive and it's more a hobby than a stop-smoking method for most.

Yet unless you're already in the 'smoker' club then you're not allowed in the 'vaper' club. The guy stated that he would use it as a craving stopper instead of taking up smoking. I say go for it! Enjoy some vaping - have a coffee, drink a beer and do it all in moderation.

Just my 2 cents and I'm sure I'm about to endure an onslaught of double-standard judgement from folks throwing stones from the front yard of their glass houses, but I just felt compelled to say something.

I hope not, as everyone has been great to me so far, but I'm a realist :)

Best of luck to you, and I hope you find the balance that works. I know that a 510 has been a great model for me, no battery troubles, and no vapor issues. Got it from Happy Vaper in Canada, and he also has a full line of no-nic liquids that just might entertain you!

Cheers,

Given your initial questions, I really recommend you read The Wonderful World of Vaping for an intro.

I'd give a starter kit a try, as it will give you a couple of atomizers and batteries to get the hang of e-cigs and see what you think of the concept. Then you can decide on researching/investing more in a mod like the Bartleby (there are many other 3.7v mods out there, too).

One of the more popular ways to start with the 510 is the $35 no-box kit (2 batteries, 2 atomizers, charger, prefilled carts) from Cignot.com, a very reliable vendor and the start for many of us here. Pick up a few small bottles of liquid and you're good to try it.

Power + Atty + Juice = Vapor

Starting with a battery mod or a pass thru is the best power source. Check out chuck, take a look a puresmokers prodigy.

Atty is next. 510 or KR808D-1 seem to be the most highly recommended and hotly disputed models on the forum, research those two, either will do you right.

Finally, juice. Any good juice (i.e. not the standard Ruyan stuff) will do. My big recommendation here for someone like you is to get a 16mg strenght liquid and a 0mg liquid (no nic) of the same flavor so you can try the 0mg and if you want some nic you can mix the 0mg with the 16mg to try lower nic levels. You'll probably end up vaping the 16mg straight if you like the nic.

My long and boring experience in looking for the right product can be found here: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/general-e-smoking-discussion/64170-search-perfect-e-cig.html, but I would recommend the "Wonderful World" thread in the new users forum where you can find great recommendation videos also.

Cignot's starter kit seems pretty decent just not thrilled with "5 prefilled carts(Marlboro High)" being your only option with that kit. There is a mod box from the board I am waiting to get some info from also.

As for using it while not being a smoker. I also don't get why you shouldn't do it if you already quit. Smoking is terrible for you health wise, and the smell is just awful. If this is not bad for you health wise, and doesn't have that smell... What's the issue?

I am mainly shooting for low end cost because I don't know if this is going to do anything for me. By the time I was done smoking just the smell would give me a headache. The nicotine part doesn't really bother me, as far as I know it isn't one of the poisons that are in cigarettes, and the addiction part doesn't really have much hold on me. If there was a way to add caffeine to the mix I could see myself getting "hooked", but that's about it.

One question about adding alcohol to the liquid. From what I understand you only add a few drops. Is that really enough for something like Vodka to cause any level of inebriation? It seems like your asking a lot from the effects of such a trace amount.
Or is it just a flavor thing as why you would add drops of alcohol?

What's the issue?
The issue, and the ONLY issue, is that many of us are scared.
We are scared of dying.

There is a full frontal assault going on against electronic cigarettes.
This assault is well funded by entities that have huge amounts of money to lose.

And they have enlisted a lot of alphabet soup organizations to pray on the public mindset with lies and other assorted distortions of truth. One of those is that these are aimed at kids, and will get them hooked on smoking because they are so cool and the flavors are so tempting. Another is that they will entice your average non-smoker into getting hooked on nicotine.

Those that would have you quit smoking or die want you to die rather than have this option.
All conspiracy theories aside, there is a very, very big conspiracy here.

What's the REAL issue?
Nothing.

Now it is up to us to convince the world what the real issue is.

Just finished reading "The SEARCH for the PERFECT E-CIG" and that is a really nice guide. Fills a lot of the blanks on actual use with various models.
It was very well explained your reasons of how you decided what you thought was best. That kind of explanation is infinitely more valuable to me then "cause I like it" that seems to be the norm when learning about something new (not the norm for this forum/community)
Read the 5 pages, and the only thing I found missing is what supplier/suppliers you recommend. Maybe even something like, "If I could do it all over again with what I know now, this is what my original order would have looked like" and list that info also.

Was still curious about this part

"One question about adding alcohol to the liquid. From what I understand you only add a few drops. Is that really enough for something like Vodka to cause any level of inebriation? Basically trying to understand the reason why you'd add alcohol.

Also these are the 2 I am zeroing in on
(I still can not making links which is really annoying so here is the full description)
cigeasy(dot)com Product Code: KIT2 (hopefully that makes it easier to find)

***NOW INCLUDES A FREE BONUS 10ml BOTTLE OF E- LIQUID, MAKE YOUR CHOICE FROM 25 GREAT FLAVOR OPTIONS

Versus
cigeasy(dot)com Product Code: KIT11

THE EASY MAX STARTER KIT- KR808D-1
YOUR EASY MAX STARTER KIT COMES WITH 2 BATTERIES IN YOUR CHOICE OF SEVERAL GREAT NEW COLOR COMBO'S ! A CIGEASY PASS-THROUGH BATTERY ! IT INCLUDES A USB CHARGER AND A FIVE PACK OF BLACK EASY CARTOMIZERS IN YOUR CHOICE OF FLAVOR

***NOW INCLUDES A FREE BONUS 10ml BOTTLE OF E- LIQUID, MAKE YOUR CHOICE FROM 34 GREAT FLAVOR OPTIONS
Our Price: $49.95

Basically $20 for one more battery, and the pass-through part which is still a bit of a mystery to me. From another guide
"Most that are sold are not true passthroughs (i.e., directly powering the atomizer from the computer), but instead provide a constant charge to the inline battery."

Does anyone know which kind of pass-through it is for the Product Code: KIT11 kit?
