Off the wall thought here during last vape session just trying to get to my 5 posts. But since there is so much of a negative connotation with the purchasing clones. I am curious to why authentic manufacturers don't create "lite" versions of the authentic versions using cheaper materials similar to the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c concept. That way if people want to keep promoting the vaping community and funding the innovators in the business but without spending so much especially those that are new or simply want to add to there collection. Any ones thoughts?

My take on all this is...

The Chinese are producing their own designs... well, sort of... and well made US/Euro authentic attys and mods can be found for under $70 and $125 respectively... so it's not that much of an issue anymore. You can spend more, but often that extra cost is in (temporary) exclusivity and frequently - "love 'em or hate 'em - graphics and mostly useless features.

There are only so many basic designs. Most RTAs have some Kayfun influence, and with mechs, there are only so many button designs that have good conductivity... after that, they're tubes and caps - just like all the other tubes and caps.
The difference is often in the quality of metals and of fitments. There's a substantial difference, for example, between the feel and function of a authentic GP Paps button, and a clone Paps. Worth the extra cash? Only you can decide.

When the Chinese stop taking liberties with tolerances... in an effort to increase ease of manufacture and production numbers... their prices will rise and the gap will narrow. At the same time, authentics keep coming down in price and, in some cases, quality. The question is, at what point do they meet in the middle, and it all becomes a wash?

I have to wonder why others haven't done the same. Giving no incentive for people to buy from them almost begging them to buy a clone of they don't want to break the bank.

Most Modders cannot keep up with their current orders. This is evident by the constant shortages and waiting list of the high end devices. The demand for the said is constant and growing.

Clones have their place and afford many an excellent vaping experience, which otherwise would not be available.

I have yet to find a better fire button assembly, which can best that of my GP Paps 2.5. Smooth and extremely light actuation coupled with an excellent lower locking ring.

So what definition of clone are you using?

Rolls Royce and Mercedes Benz target the high end market, and Kia and Hyundai target the low end.

I thought that the Kayfun Lite was just a smaller version of the Kayfun 3.1 (9% shorter), not that it used cheaper materials as suggested by the OP.

Yes, and fortunate for us they keep the quality of build and execution of build the same.

I was just simply noting that manufacturers do offer lower priced models.
