Hi guys.
I am a pack a day smoker. vaping on and off for about a year, Using 18mg Nic and I am not getting the satisfaction. Have had some problems with coughing and going to 90%VG did not help. I think that I draw too hard and I can get around that by changing how I draw. (I suck the life out of an analog)

My question is if I go to 24MG is the cough going to get worse? I would think that 18 would be strong enough for a pack a day guy. Is there something else I am missing?

I really need to get off the smokes and this is the only thing that I foresee helping me do that.

Thanks
Tim

When I first started vaping I coughed a lot. Your body has to adjust to the difference between smoke and vapor. I know it sounds weird but you have to get used to inhaling something different. It took me a month to lose the cough entirely.

The nic content will affect throat hit which could affect your cough. More nic is rougher on the throat. I was a PAD smoker and 18mg has been sufficient to keep me off of cigs.

I don' think you are missing anything. You just need to allow time for your body to adjust.

EDIT - Your draw can also affect your cough. For me, when I learned to inhale properly the cough got better.

Somewhere on top of the world
Tim,

There is a thread on here on how to properly "vape". I can't find it but, make sure your only slightly inhaling into your lungs, dont inhale like it's an analog. If on exhale your only seeing a little vapor, your drawing to far. Also, slowly exhale and share it with your nose. The slower you let it go the more nic you will absorb. If your coughing alot I would think that's your lungs telling you there's too much vapor getting in. Also, don't be afraid to just drag and blow it out a couple times here and there. This way you will still get some nic absorption but nothing going to your lungs. Practice makes perfect but concentrate on your inhale and make sure your seeing alot of that vapor on exhale. Just my two cent's worth.

The coughing is a natural thing when you first start vaping, once all the gunk in your lungs is gone then you will stop coughing. Took me about 17 days. You want to take slow draws, taking it into your mouth and then inhale. I started with 18mg and had to go up to 24 mg. I was at or over a pad full flavor 100's. The action of vaping is differnt than smoking. You will want to find the exact amount of vapes you need to take to kill the cravings. With me I vape 3 to 4 times then put it down for a bit then pick it up again rinse and repeat. Its alittle more after eatting or when I first get up.

I found the best for me was to cold turkey when I first started vaping so my first vape was my last analog. I think you are fighting a bigger battle if you keep smoking and vaping at the same time. The brain is going to want the analog over the e-cig. The first couple days were hard till I found the exact balance of vaping.

To help the cough take smaller slower vapes to start. Drink lots of water! More water please!

Good luck you can do it!

I want to add, juice flavor also can play a part in how much TH you get besides the nicotine level. Im vaping a very mild licorice right now 50/50 with PG/VG at 24mg and I get no real TH with it. Thats on a 1300mah spinner set at about 3.5 with a clearo that is 1.8. I have some fruit flavors even at 24mg I get no TH. There is an adjustment period. Some have gotten sore gums, a wierd feeling in the throat like there is a lump in it, high acid type flavors can cause canker sores in the mouth. Some have no effects. The side effects I had went away the first week.

You will have to experiment and find the right balance for you.

i didnt have a coughing problem when i started, just coughing up all the gunk smoking had left in me every once in a while, but when i got a buddy into vaping, he had a really bad cough every time he inhaled. i was like ...??? and it turned out that we had a different smoking habit. i would inhale it into my mouth first until my mouth was full of smoke and then inhale into my lungs. he inhaled directly into his lungs and thats what was making him cough. once he got the hang of it he was good. i dont know if thats what you're experiencing. oh and also you have to take slow controlled inhales not fast ones. hope this helps.

the coughing will die off once you start killing off the analogs. You will notice it when your analog/vape ratio changes till it is 0/100. You have to learn how to inhale it, your body has to adjust. Keeping analogs and vaping will just make it rougher on you. I really felt dripping helped me kick it fully. I drip 24mg was a PAD full flavor menthol smoker. Thing is it is different for everyone. Not to sound harsh but you kinda need to pick a side. Being a pack a day smoker and a vapor has to be bad news bears for your lungs. If you really what to make switch make getting analogs harder for yourself. Play find the lighter, (toss it across the room, takes more effort to smoke) or hide and seek with analogs. (place them randomly though out house , there if you need them but again more effort).

Sometimes with vaping your throat becomes very dry and can get irritated. Trying taking one puff and a sip of water. If your trying to quit the analogs, allow some time to use both. I'd recommend going up to 24 mg nic for vaping and cutting down to ultra lights. This will help you to enjoy vaping more and you'll start thinking less positively about analogs. Start telling yourself each time you smoke an analog how bad they are for you and think about your energy level and sluggishness when you smoke an analog as opposed to vaping.

I'll add my .02

FWIW, I was the same way when I first started vaping. I wasn't getting enough vapor to enjoy it, or even come close to mimicking smoking (then again I was the only 18 y/o who liked camel unfiltered). I switched to an eGo, which helped produce more vapor. Also, I gave it two solid weeks of not breaking down and smoking an analog, I just stuck with my PV. I told the same thing to my mom, to only use the PV, or only smoke analogs. Never to mix to the two. They are two separate animals. After the two weeks, and a couple of times since, I've broken down and smoked an analog. I was disgusted by the taste, the smell, everything. I'm proud to say the same thing happened to my mom as well.

Long story short, just give it two weeks or so, and then see how you feel. The key is getting "used" to vaping. Good luck!
