I'm also a single coil guy. It's cool to experiment to find out what's out there and if it's really what the hype says it is, but most often I find that the hype does not stand up to the test. I've got several KayFuns, original and clones, a Magma for drippin' and a Rose. I've gone the dual coil & sub-ohm route and found that the minimal increase in flavor, if any, is not worth the trouble of getting dual, or sub-ohm coils working perfectly. The K.I.S.S, theory comes into play a lot here. I'm not putting down dual, or sub-ohm coils - for those who like them, more power to you & your coil. They're just not my cup of tea. Flavor and vape production from a single could is more than enough for me.

Vape whatever turns you on and keep on vaping - it's so much better than going back to analogs. :toast:

A favorite single coil..26ga 8 wraps at .8Ω .. Not a cloud chaser but this coil plus the 2mm air hole on the RM4 and it does produce some pretty dam good vapor.
The flavor is awesome as well.

Yup yup. I am a single coil kind of guy as well. Sirius got me hooked on this exact build. Except I use twisted 28

And as for the OP. Single coil is about all I use There is something about keeping things simple. Easy to wick. Fast to
Ramp. Flavor is always on point. And warmth can be set by either wattage or battery selection. I don't like hot vapes either. Warm is ok. Flavor rules All

I also am a single coil guy.I am running a Cyclone and a rm2 with barely enlarged air holes #57 drill . I tried larger air holes and the vape was too airy for me.I use 28 wire seven wraps around 1.15 ohm's . Since switching to Reo mods I have become sensitive to nicotine and dropped my nic to 3 mg. and that is too much at bedtime as nic has a long half life and I guess it just builds up all day. So no dual coils for me,I probably couldn't sleep at all. Thanks, Dave

Well Papaw I smoked over 30yrs and started vaping 2yrs ago..that said my learning curve started with a spinner/mini ProTank ..now I'm liking dual coil RDA's and the single coil R91/Kayfun... just recently I'm really liking the single coil Atlantis sub tank...but for me dual coils provide a thicker vape and I don't get a dry hit like I was getting after three pulls on a single coil..love my dual coil builds in all my RDA's ..but that's just me I reckon...

Absolutely nothing wrong with single coils. Personally I prefer dual coils over single as I really like low sub ohm 0.1 - 0.2 vapes on a mech. I really love me a hot vape but I do from time to time build singles as they are great as well all depends on my mood. Right now I am running a Twisted Chain single coil at 0.4 ohms. Gives a great vape. Prior to this coil I was running a single 20 ga nichrome macro coil (1/8) drill bit clocked in at 0.09 - 0.1 ish. Gave a hella good vape. The best thing about rebuilding is being able to adjust to your vape mood and go with the flow of what you want in that moment. If it was not for RDA's I would probably still be smoking.

As the Title says, Am I the Only One who still Prefers a Single Coil ?

One coil to rule them all... I feel you brother.

For going on almost 2 years, I've been running a Reo /w Cyclone standard cap.
28awg, 8 wraps on a 1/16 bit for 1 ohm. It's my sweet spot. I've run duals on a cyclone /w afc cap and an rm5 I think but always end up back on a single at .9-1 ohm.

Imho, if you're into flavor and single coils, the cyclone shines best with the standard cap. The larger chamber with the afc cap robs a bit of the flavor. Not a huge amount but it's noticable.

Cheers

Now you tell me this. Just got my Cyclone / Cyclops in yesterday, I've set it up on a VV Grand that Rob planed down for me with a single 1.9 ohm coil. Still getting great flavor, but I am only using one air opening at maybe 1/4th open.
I also have a Grand that I just installed the rebuild kit into today. New gold plated contacts make a difference, even on the Classic Grand. Running a 1.3 ohm single coil in that one, and it is doing great !

So you don't have a standard cap to try on it? Let me know if you need one.
I have a spare cyclone cap that you are welcome to. No charge mate...
just shoot me a pm if interested. Hate to see you miss out on that little cyclone flavor factory at it's single coil best.

Now, my Reos are not the only single coil set ups I Vape on. I have to ProVari, a P3 and a P2, that I use when lying in front of the TV, watching a ball game or an action flick. Today I took an Original Svoemesto Kayfun, (which I acquired in a trade) and opened up the feed ports slightly. Currently putting 9.4 Watts from a 2.0 ohm coil, this device is offering the kind of vapor and flavor I enjoy.

When I get a new atomizer, I experiment a little bit with coils and juices 'til I find something I like in it. I can't actually remember the last time I wrapped a coil.

These are the setups I've been using for some while and the juices I use most often in them. They range from 0.2Ω to 1.8Ω on mechs and regulated mods.

Cyclone: Single - Peppermint Blast
Erlkönigin: Single - Dragon's Fire
Nuppin': Single (sort of. Mundy's Magic) - Pirate's Booty
Zenith: Single (sort of. Zipper coil) - Brown Bomber
Veritas: Dual - Maple Eh?
Magma: Dual - Sludge
Odin: Dual - unflavored or Dirty Blond
Estia: Triple - Smooth Criminal or Caramel Wild Wood

Some of those combinations produce big clouds & some don't. I don't care. They all taste great to me.

Top feed, bottom feed, and tanks. I do like variety :)

Don't get me wrong, I did not start this thread to belittle or condemn what others enjoy.
I just wanted to know if there are still others who enjoy using single coils.....

I won't use anything else. And I'm about to invest in a magma clone; I'd LOVE to see some single-coil magma builds -- I've googled it but even with the "single-coil" in the search phrase, it STILL shows me dual-coil buils.

Anybody got a Magma with a NORMAL (not braided, twisted, or in other way mangled or complicated) single-coil build, who can post pics of it? I do NOT vape for CLOUDS, I vape for FLAVOR, in the simplest possible way. And I always build my kayfuns around 1.8-2 ohms, but I'm willing to consider something between 1.3-1.6 for the Magma (not lower than 1.3, because neither my sigelei nor my vamo will fire anything lower).

I'd also love some comments on placement of the coil -- yeah, right over the air hole, got that, but what about the height of it? I know in the kayfun, higher = better TH; anything along those lines with the magma?

IMHO Andria ideal flavor range(I'm the same way) is anywhere between .8 and 1.2ohms. I use mesh though. I've found you don't have to go nearly as low ohms with mesh for a fantastic flavorful vape. I found myself with cotton(after someone(baby mama)threw my mesh out and until I got more) continually building lower and lower ohm coils. I use mechanicals and just got a magma as well. It's a LOT of atomizer for a single coil build. Did a quick dual with cotton. Not enough experience with it to say this or that. Sorry. Nice vape though.
Hate to be that guy but, get something that fires below 1.3ohms. Especially if you're rebuilding. The I leaf 30w is a good choice. It will allow for a much wider range of builds with thicker longer lasting gauge wire. Fires to .45ohms I believe. Had the same 1.3ohm cutoff when I started so I know there's a lot of limitations with that cutoff. Plus, now you could do dual coils if you chose to. Dual with a 1.3ohm cutoff is tough...

I am firmly in the single coil camp, with a 2.0Ω coil at 11 watts I was able to elicit a comment at home..."can you put that thing down, I can't see the TV" NOT the reaction I was going for, and I try not to create waves, no upside following that route.

I recently purchased an Orchid V4 and tried it as a dual coil, meh, plugged one airway and two juice channels and it works wonderfully as a single coil setup.

OK, that was weird. I can now say that I remember the last time I built a coil - this afternoon. Shortly after I jinxed myself in this thread. I pulled the cyclone apart accidentally (the Fusion drip tip was stuck) and the barrel broke the coil. Ah well, I haven't used much of the 30g wire since I've had it, so I went with it and a single 2.4Ω coil. This may be the first coil I've built at that resistance. I was targeting 2 ohms, but that 30g is just so tiny & I probably had more wraps than I intended.

Switched from Peppermint Blast to 8-month old tobacco flavor and it is looooooaded with flavor!
