So Cal
Been tinkering around with different builds. This one right here is probably my favorite so far. The wick doesn't get in the way of the hole and mess up air flow, I trimmed it up nice enough to the point it's not a pain in the .... to put the cap back on, clean, simple and sitting at .5ohms. I am in fact using my 18490's with no problems whatsoever.

Quick question if you are still following this thread. You mentioned to switch the MM over to "2000" mode when checking resistance, however when I did a quick YouTube search, the lady said the "200" mode? She was using my exact same MM and also showed how you touch the two probes to see how much resistance is sitting in them just by theirselves, then subtract that from the reading I get when in "200" mode. Does this seem about right? I really wanna get a better MM, this thing was reading .8-1ohm just sitting in the probes before I touched anything, just seems pretty finicky. I actually trust my SVD better than the $4 MM. lol

I am also starting to think I am not a huge fan of the .5mm ribbon (or ribbon in general). Kind of a pain to work with IMO. This wrap is 3 wrap .5mm ribbon with 2, 1" strips of 3mm ekowool on top of eachother (per each coil). I seem to like doing 2, single pieces on top of eachother rather than folding 1 longer piece over. I don't like that loop that I am left with, seems to get in the way of the air hole. I think I will be ordering 28g and maybe some 30g, but primarily 28g kanthal from here on out.

Lastly (lol), do you guys see a big difference between the Ekowool and just regular Silica? The ekowool is quite a bit more money (especially here at my local shop), and wasn't sure if it was really worth it.

Thanks guys!

that looks like a nice build. actually, it looks really similar to what i've got in my nimbus :D

just some random comments:

i personally like the ekowool. it seems to wick better than silica for me, and it's easier to work with since it stiffens up when you torch it. i also like ribbon coil; yes it's kind of a pain to work with, but in my experience, it performs better than regular wire (more vapor and flavor) at a higher resistance. since you can go higher resistance with it, it does take away some of the throat hit, though.

do you know the thickness of the ribbon? temco's is all .1mm (so, .5x.1mm, .8x.1mm, etc.), but i tend to like the performance of thinner ribbon better. bakero wire, for example, is .8x.05mm (so half the thickness), and i think it performs wonderfully.

quick correction/clarification - everything i've read indicates that the aw imr 18490/18500 has a 15c rating (not 8c). this puts the maximum current at 16.5 amps, meaning you can go to slightly lower than a 0.30 ohm coil without exceeding the battery's specification (disclaimer: i'm not advocating you or anyone go this low, just saying that it's within the specifications).

one flag to look out for is heat - this is what causes batteries to run away. your dripper will get hot with use, which is fine. if your battery starts to warm up, then stop using it until it cools down. if you're unsure about whether it's the dripper or the battery warming up, take the battery out and feel it - you'll be able to tell (as long as you don't exceed the max discharge rate per above, it normally won't warm up).

Awesome stuff and thank you!

The ribbon is from temco and is .5mmx.1mm. I may get used to it, I am new to all of this, so I may just stick with it if it does in fact yield better results.

Thanks for the clarification on the batteries. I haven't been able to crack .5ohms on my builds (like I said, just started all of this), but my aw18490 has been doing great with what I have going on.

Thanks for the response, bro!
