1x madvapes 2xAA Box with NO switch
1x madvapes Soft Touch Micro Switch
1x Duvac's Micro Rocker Switch 5A
1x Trustfire 14500

Gotta give a shoutout to madvapes - I received a faulty AAA battery (no fault of his own) on my first order and he shipped me a new one at no charge. He also threw in some free modding parts as always.
The only issues I have with this project is:

A) The "no switch" box doesn't stay closed without a screw ... you guys have a remedy?

B) I have a feeling the micro touch switch might overload. The 5A rocker should be fine. I checked around for solid state and MOSFET switches but both were either too big or beyond my comprehension.

Remedy for screw = Magnet. Set screw mounted down in below lid for magnet to stick to. That`s one thing I`m looking into at the moment. Sure beats the duct tape idea I won`t mention.

Nice mod you made by the way and I totally agree Madvapes goes above and beyond just good fast service.
Go to Madvapes forum and find the thread called Tiny Mod and you`ll see Tiny Magnets. :)

You may call it another "boring" NicoStick" but you've made a cool mod there. I have made 5 of them myself, each slightly different and one of them 5v, but use them every single day as my power source and it is without a doubt the easiest, cheapest, most dependable mod I've enjoyed for several months now.

If you do make another one however, I would highly suggest using a battery box with an on-off switch built in just so you can click it off just in case it's in a tight pocket. I've found that carrying my NicoStick in my shirt pocket can be tricky with a shoulder-belt going across it.

Good Job!

Agreed that they are dependable and cheap. However, my definition of a cool mod is something that is either original or innovative or both :D Mine is neither.

I was going to make a PV hidden inside of an inhaler, but Marlboro Man beat me to it.

The one mod I want to make is a box mod, where the atty and cart retract down into the box (like a clicky pen) - so that it looks clean and square when not in use. Still gotta learn the mechanics of that (if you're reading this and you use that idea tell me how you did it!)

+1 on the magnets
+1 on madvapes

My old man is a woodworker and he showed me these magnets last year. Here's a link to the rare-earth magnets at leevalley.com, a Woodworker's site:

Oh...and don't knock the nicostick. It is a solid design and my go-to device. I just received a new order from MadVapes with two 3xAA boxes in it. One will be a 5V and the other will be a single 14500 battery with an extra battery slot for atty storage. Sorry, not retractable, but I can forgo the on/off switch if I remove the atty and pop it in an empty AA battery slot for transport.

Magnet is a great idea, and it sure beats the velcro wire strap that's holding my 5v box shut.

Another member (Sci) was gracious enough to part out with some of his neodymium magnets. As promised, here are the pictures. These things are tiny, but strong.

I posted them where the screw holes :)pervy:) for the box would normally be. I had to file down the contacts so that the box fitting would remain flush (with the added width of the magnets). Perhaps somebody has a more creative / less intrusive way of mounting these. I took the direct approach.

Looks good!
Take a black marker & make 'em black. I don't believe that will lessen the strength of these magnets.:) I plan on using them on the boxes with the posts in the corners. I'm going to screw the original screws in as far as I can get them in(inside the box). Then, epoxy the magnets to the indentions on the outside of the lid & color them to match the box.

A fellow member by the name of NicoWolf is the one who originally designed and built them and hence the name NicoStick.

In a nicely done and explained post. A great 2XAA 14500 mod with a proper switch (not one that's cute) and a recessed atty. Just using a plastic battery case don't make it a NicoStick. ;)

I'm not sure what you're saying here. The OP asked why it was called a NicoStick and I thought I was correct but if I'm not, please tell me.
