Hi All,

I've been lurking only a short time and learning a whole bunch, just about overwhelming but I can manage. So both my wife and I want to quit the analogs together, I know from experience that trying to quit alone while the other is still smoking is next to impossible. I've been smoking 34 years about a pack a day and my wife for about 20 years a pack a day and we both smoke Winston lights.

I'm almost ready to make my first purchases, just waiting for payday to come, never seems to be enough in that darn paycheck but I guess when we get off the analogs that should help. What I'm planning on getting is two identical setups, one for each of us so the initial hit will be a little high but that's OK. As for me I don't have a problem setting things up as in filling tanks or cartos and the likes but for my wife I would like to set her up so that she will only have to do a simple swap of batteries or tanks/cartos and keep on vaping, I'll be able to do maintenance after I get home from work. So what I'm looking at getting and this will be a piece meal setup is:

4 Joyetech Ego-c twist 1000 mAh batteries
Boge XL LR 2.0 cartomizers
Pro DCTank Tube 3.5 ml
eGo Cone Cover for DCTank
Drip tips
chargers

I will be drilling my cartos as I have a nice setup to do that. My first question is how many cartos should I get and how long should I expect them to last? I don't want to get caught short handed on them. I figure I should at least get four tanks, two for me and two for the wife that way it will be just a swap and go till I'm able to refill them at the end of the day.

My other questions have to do with juice and I know this is all subjective. What should we start off with for a nicotine level? How much juice should we get? I don't want to be ordering juice every other day, I wouldn't mind lets say a once a month order or longer once I find out what we like. On what we like, I want to start off with a tobacco juice that is close to what we are smoking now but once again I know that it is all subjective. I don't mind trying different things but the wife says she just want the tobacco flavors but I know that once we start vaping how that will go.

Well I think that's about it for now. I'm sure that I've forgotten some things but I know that you all will remind me and jog my memory. Did I say yet that in the short time that I've been surfing this site I find it very informing and the people here are just outstanding and thanks for any and all advice.

On the cartos, CrystalClearVaping has a deal on three 5-packs of cartos in various styles on this page here: Crystal Clear Vaping

For your wife, you might consider trying a couple of Vivi Nova tanks. They hold 3ml of juice, and filling them is as simple as unscrewing the top and pouring the juice in and screwing the top back on. And they don't leak.

I'm not sure on how much juice, but I'd guess that an "average" user uses about 3 - 4 ml a day. But that's just a guess. That's about what I use and I'd guess that I'm an average or slightly heavier than average vaper. YMMV.

On flavors, there are lots of different tobacco flavors, but none of them are going to TASTE like a cigarette. A lot of people say that's what they want (I said it too when I first started), but I think what they really want is the SENSATION of smoking a cigarette. The juice that I use that is closest to that sensation is Ry4 from ECBlends in an 18mg nic level. But this is all VERY subjective, and your wife might HATE that juice.

The only thing you can do is try many different brands and flavors of juice and find something that you and she like. There's really no shortcut unless you just get lucky or are unusually easy to please.

Be advised that the LR cartos limit your voltage adjustment as the Twist is limited (2.5A?). Always go higher on the nicotine level than lower. If the juice is to high, you can dilute it. If it's to low you may go back to smokes...

I thought that, from what I've been reading, the Boge LR single coil would work well with the Ego VV.

They will physically work but the voltage limiter may kick in. What this means is if you use an LR device, you can crank it up to 4.8 volts but the unit will actually cut back the voltage if it hits the limit. It's that Ohm's Law stuff. An expert should be by shortly to actually talk the numbers...

As coincidence would have it-- three packs of five cartomizers was exactly what I was going to recommend for two of you. With a tank setup and, I guess, medium level vaping (like 4ML/day), I tend to get about a week out of a cartomizer and only keep two in service at any given time. Fifteen between the two of you should be enough to keep you in supply for a few weeks, but not so many that you're stuck with a boatload in case you decide to try a different style/resistance. With cartomizers and liquids alike, I have several times discovered something else I really want to try--right after I laid in months worth of whatever I'd been using before. It's part of the game, I guess.

I hope you both end up loving vaping!

I was actually looking at this deal Boge Mix n Match (5 Boxes) I figure with the 5 boxes that would give me enough especially with a learning curve.

Welcome to ECF, tazz! As far as the amp limit on the Twist, I have heard both 2.5 and 3 amps. Either way, your numbers would be correct as far Ohms law goes and it should not drop voltage with a a SCC at 2ohms. Also, here is a link for a brick and mortar search that may be of use to you: VaporSearchUSA Take care!

Greetings from Canada! Welcome to ECF!

I prefer 2.0 or 2.5 ohm for the Twist. The 2.5 ohm allows the full range of voltages to be used, if needed. With different juices you may want different voltages. With 2.5 ohm Fluxomizers I use 3.5 volts for Strawberry or Watermelon and 4.2 volts for Butterscotch or RY4. It's Great to have the flexibility.

By the way, excellent choices you have made rather than buying kits. I would also recommend a Vivi Nova 2. You should try one at least. Have Fun, both of you!

Relax, Enjoy!

I second the advice on upping the Nic content. I was a pack a day smoker and have found a happy place between 18 & 20 mg. Good luck & happy vaping!

Agreed. 20 is my strength, lately. A good approach might be to buy the same flavor in 36mg, 18mg, and 0mg, some smaller drip bottles (as I noticed they weren't on your list), and something that measures milliliters (syringe, pipette, beaker, whatever) . Mixing to achieve any strength within that range is obvious arithmetic. Maybe start with 18mg and work downward or upward as needed for each of you, realizing it might change (upward or downward) over time.

I was looking at several of the popular sites for juice and some of them have different nic levels from each other, like 24, 20, 18, 16 and such. I know I can get different size bottles also. I curious as to how much to keep on hand so as I'm not ordering every week, what I mean is on an average with both of us being a pack a day how much should a months supply be? I know that I will most likely be ordering small quantities for now till I find what we like.

It's hard to say, as a few variables come into play, and there are two of you. It's been my sense that a lot of people fall into the 2-4mg/a day category, but that heavier usage like 5-6mg isn't exactly unusual, especially if you find you like the higher end of the voltage scale. I've noticed it's not easy to predict what strength and what amount will work for people based on how much they smoked or what brand. You will probably find yourselves picking it up much more frequently than you lit up.

Trouble is, of course, if you go with the outside estimate of 10mg/day between the two of you (so 300mg for a month's supply), you run the risk of ending up with a quarter liter of a flavor or strength that doesn't suit either of you. For that reason, I'd suggest you start with a variety pack of flavors and strengths in small bottles for the first week or two to get your bearings. And if either of you are so inclined, start looking at DIY liquid as the savings are considerable.

I am thinking of going the DIY route but not right now as I have a lot to learn. I figure that seeing as I'm going to get two setups now, that's going to be a considerable expense. We don't really know what we will like yet for juice or even if either one of us is allergic to anything. I am planning to get a bunch of different juices for now, mostly tobacco flavor as that is what my wife said she was interested in. I might throw in a couple of flavors for me and I know what will happen, she will try them and I have funny feeling that we will end up ditching the tobacco flavors all together. So what I'll do is pickup several different small bottles in both higher and mid nicotine levels and go from there.

Good idea to start with small bottles, different flavors, different strengths. Lots of good advice from PaulB. When you narrow down your choice of likes you can get higher and lower (perhaps zero) strength in the same flavor so that you can dilute the strength without diluting the flavor. That's also a good introduction to the concept of DIY.

Have Fun with it!
