Hello all, yes and yet another newbie.
Lucked onto an e-leaf I stick 30watt, was given to me because it wouldn't charge or work. I tried the 5 bottom clicks and volla! Yeah. Have fooled around with the cheap starter sticks, $15 Walmart kits or stuff like that. This mod had no tank or atomizer with it. Friend hooked me up with both which was cool of her. Shows atomizer low, I've searched and it seems it may be ohms are to low. Struck for cash, wondering if there's some info as to how to maybe bypass this or even make coil adjustmentd, or my own coils. Thanks in advance. Glad to meet new souls!

Welcome to ECF!

There's not much you can do to adjust a factory-made coil. Many people make their own coils, but we usually use special tanks that are designed for that. It is a lot cheaper in the long run because instead of spending a few dollars per coil, it takes a few cents of wire and cotton/rayon and five minutes of your time.

Could you tell us what tank you have? That might generate some ideas. The 'atomizer low' warning generally means that your coil resistance (ohms) is too low, although it can be the result of a fault in the device or a problem with the connection. I think the istick 30 has a 0.4 ohm bottom limit, and there are plenty of coils below that nowadays.

Around here, most people have found that tanks and mods (or pod systems, if you prefer that) are much more effective than starter sticks for helping one quit. A good system costs a little more than disposables or starter sticks to begin with, but it's often less expensive to run over time. It's also much cheaper than cigarettes.

My tank is a SMOK tank, and yes its very low owms,. 15 so it looks like learning to make coils is on my to-do list, lol. Shouldn't be to hard as I have some electronic knowledge and computer knowledge, hope to have e-cigg coil knowledge before long. I have made juice before for my starter sticks when I ran out but just easier to just buy it so far.

Hi and welcome,
Smok tanks need more than 30 watts to function correctly, in general.
Your device:
  • Threading: 510
  • Variable Wattage (VW) and Variable Voltage (VV) Mode
  • Maximum Output Wattage: 30W
  • Dimensions: 3-1/80 x 1-5/16 x 13/16 (inches)
  • Adjustable Voltage: 2.0 - 8.0V
  • Adjustable Wattage: 5 - 30W
  • Minimum Resistance: 0.4ohm (The reason for your error message)
  • Built-in Battery Capacity: 2200 mAh
  • Incremental OLED screen
  • Battery Protections
  • Voltage Protection (battery lower than 3.3V)
  • Micro USB rechargeable
As long as you use a tank/topper/coil above .4Ω, you should be fine.
I find I can stay below 30 watts using a resistance of .5Ω or greater.
You may be interested in the innokin Zlide tank or any tank from innokin that take the "Z" series coils.

Cheers

Welcome aboard.

IMHO the old 30w iStick is a good reliable bit of kit if you are happy to use + 1 Ohm coils - I have 8 and the oldest is now over four years old and still in service.

Again I use mine with Nautilus Mini tanks and Zenith/Zlides but I'm Old School and run with higher nic (16 -18% ) liquid, coils of 1.6 ohms and watts around 8 -10 set on the mod.

That style may or may not suit you - good luck and enjoy whatever you settle on!

Do you know if you like MTL or DL? It has to do with small amount of vapor at lower watts versus lots of vapor at higher watts. That Smok tank fits the second catagory. You would be better with a MTL tank considering 30 watts limit. I can recommend several but if you are really low on funds (I can relate) here's a crazy good deal (also deals on juice):
Aspire Nautilus X Tank
I don't like the coils it comes with so you will need to get extra coils here:
Aspire Nautilus X Replacement Coils (Pack of 5)
Get the 1.8 ohm coils (really good flavor) run them around 14-15 watts. Get several of those tanks (yes... only $1 each) to make it worth the shipping costs.
Here's another deal on a MTL tank:
Aspire Nautilus 2 | Top Fill
I'll look around for coils for that.
If you can afford it, get an Innokin Zlide tank.
