I've had my 510 for a few days, accidentally broke my first atty last night (hoping I can rebuild it), but anyways my question is this. Why do you need a drip tip at all when dripping? I am dripping and sucking right on the atty just fine?

You don't need one, what you are doing is called "tail piping" around here, nothing wrong with that. The drip tip just makes it easier and keeps you from burning your lips on a hot atty end. You can also drip and put an empty cart on to save your lips.
Cool, I didn't know it was called that. I'm currently tail piping cuz I lost my drip tip.

You probably won't. This is some of the "terminology" and such that comes from experience. There is a ton of info out there

Joye 306 atty (which I was I drip on w/ my 510 battery) is a no-tube short atty w/ an external bridge so I definitely need a drip tip.
I would hate to "tail pipe" on a 306 with out the drip tip... I don't even want to know how much that would hurt
You can use a 306 with an empty cartridge on it rather than a drip tip, but if you're dripping it does mean you'll need to pull off the cartridge every couple of puffs.
