[h=1]Sunday, Sept 9[/h]
- Disorderly person 21-year-old Matthew McDonald, Mashpee resident. At about 6:45 p.m., police responded to a disturbance in the 25 Washington Street area. A caller reported there was a shoeless man in a vest yelling at passing cars. When police caught up to him, they report he was digging in the dirt with his hands, and picking up clods of earth, then walking toward a group of people and throwing the dirt at them, yelling things like "smoking is dangerous" and "you shouldn't smoke, it could kill you." When officers tried to get his identity from him, he threw his wallet into the street. Officers then placed him in handcuffs, which he struggled against. Witnesses say he had thrown his shirt into the street, and was throwing handfuls of dirt at the nearby bridge, causing traffic to stop, and pulling out signs and other items in the area. He was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, malicious damage of prpoerty and resisting arrest. He was then transported to the hospital for evaluation. Police spoke with his mother, who says he had left Mashpee at 9 a.m., and was heading to Woonsocket, R.I., and she does not know how he got to the Boston-area.
