Hi. So I just started vaping and I got into it randomly.(I bought a cig-a-like once upon a time, hated the flavor and barely ever used it). So I've been smoking for about 7/8 years and my friend was visiting a friend that gets a discount at a vape shop, called me and gave me basic price details and asked if I wanted to start vaping. So I didn't even buy my set up or step into a vape shop before I somewhat randomly owned my pretty purple kangertech subox nano. =P

Anyway, I was given a few bottles of e juice in various vg/pg mixes and nicotine strengths and I just picked the most appealing and started vaping and then I got a little over excited and ordered 2 sample packs from vapewild without doing a lot of research(stupid, I know) so I got 6 bottles of 65vg/35pg @ 9mg nicotine and 6 bottles of 65vg/35pg @ 12mg nicotine. Yesterday I went to a vape shop and they made it sound like I should always opt for max VG and that my nicotine levels might be too high if I don't want a harsh throat hit. So now I'm not sure what to do and figured I'd reach out and ask a few questions and listen to any and all advice from experienced people..

1. Could I get flavorless 100% vg 0mg nicotine e juice and dilute my e juice? And what's the best way to do that?
2. Do you usually get max vg?
3. What are your favorite e juice flavors or brands?

TIA! ^_^

If you are using vaping to quit smoking, 0mg nic juice is not going to be much of an interest for a bit. Your body will still crave the nic, give it the nic but then slowly lower the amount of nic in your juice.

100% VG juice does not "carry" the flavor" of the juice very well. PG does. Most people are in the middle somewhere.

Juice flavors are heavily influenced by the the person, gear, set-up and 47 other variables. It is very subjective. It is really something that you just have to determine by your own trial and error. Go to juice lounges, try friend's juices, learn about gear, etc.

The tobacco companies make it very, very easy to smoke. Vaping is a big huge world.

Have fun, make it a hobby, do it safely.

Hi @PrincessLuna and welcome to the forum. You have a nice starter mod. As to the juice you should try what you have and see if you like it. I vape mostly 50/50 pg/vg and have no issues from it. If you're wanting huge clouds then you should go to a higher VG. PG carries more flavor than Vg so there is a slight difference. PG is also thinner and wicks easier, VG is slightly sweeter and gunks coils faster. You really ordered, (in my opinion) great pg/vg ratio to start. If you like it, use it, I wouldn't switch unless you have an issue.

1. You can get USP grade VG at Wallyworld or most drug stores. USP (pharmaceutical) is vape grade VG and found in the first aid, hair or skin lotion sections. If you "dilute" your juice, you will also be diluting the flavor and nic level.

2. No. I DIY most of my juice in the 50/50 range and subohm around .5 ohm. I don't care about the clouds, I enjoy the flavor chase.

3. Fruits, creams, and bakery. You might try visiting a local vape shop and sampling flavors to see what you will like. My taste buds didn't start to change for two weeks after I quit the cigs and it was a couple months until the creams appealed to me. Even if you get a juice that doesn't appeal to you now, throw it in a drawer for a couple weeks and try it again later as your taste buds will change.

Vape is about what "YOU" enjoy, not about what others tell you to enjoy. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, but do have a look around. You're doing great.

Welcome and glad you joined.
You will be fine. Suggest vaping 12 mg. bottles first then vape 9 mg.. Max. VG is not necessary unless you decide that this combo is for you.
. What are your favorite e juice flavors or brands?
I like the desert and bakery flavors. I mix my own (DIY),hence no brands of e liquid to recommend.

Hey @PrincessLuna!

NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO. You do *NOT* have to have max VG (unless that's how you want to vape.)

PG is your flavor carrier, and VG is the "vapor/cloud" maker. So many of these ludicrous shops think that EVERYONE has to "blow kloudz, bro"

No you don't. *YOU* need to try out a few things as you can (which your juice selection appears to be doing for *YOU*) The Nano kit is a great device. But it and "max vg" isn't necessarily the end-all-be-all.

Now, depending on *YOUR* needs, low ohms and higher nic (maybe the 12) could be a touch rough. It is possible to overdo because you can "concentrate the effect" of the nic when doing serious sub-ohmming.

What I'd like to also recommend is to get a variety of coils - they come in 0.5, 1.2, and 1.5 ohms. You can use your Subox with ANY of those. Just turn the power down with the higher-ohmmed coils. (I always recommend starting with lower power and work your way up until it maybe just seems a touch burnt - then BACK IT DOWN. That is *YOUR* sweet-spot. Everyone is DIFFERENT - you just have to figure out what works for *YOU*

Good luck to you.... Great folks here who will be glad to help (but remember - take everything with a grain of salt - it's still on *YOU* to figure out what works :) )

Try what you have. If it's too harsh cut it with the same flavour, but no nicotine. The only reason to use PG or VG in your situation is if the flavour is too intense for you.

Keep good notes on whatever you do with your juice. In Canada you can get oral syringes from pharmacies, sometimes free, to mix your juices. Keeping notes will let you buy juices with a nicotine level you enjoy without mixing.

Other than that, try different flavours, and find 'THE ONES' you enjoy. Some vape shops will let you try before you buy. Some have 'trial sizes.' Get to know what's available and enjoy!

howdy! and welcome!

you can use 100% vg to cut high nic juice, but it will mute flavor some, depending on how much you add... you can actually pick up vg from wal mart even (pharmacy section, brand is Humco, i believe)

i tend to vape about 70% vg juice, but i also use sub ohm coils and wick for that specifically (vg is thicker and can cause wicking issues in some set ups)

lol - my favorite brand, any more, is my own - i started doing diy and have not bought juice in months... there are, however, lots of very decent juice brands out there, and part of the adventure is finding the ones that fit your flavor preferences and vaping style...

you are in the right place - lots of good info here :)

I'll put it this way, vaping is unique to the end vaper, this includes what devices, attachments, flavors, nicotine strength they require dependent also on the equipment, as well as what PG/VG ratio they prefer, and for the accessorizing ladies, how many "Hello Kitty" and other such bling they add to their devices. Now whomever said you need max VG all the time, yes, if you are in the "Whoa look at the Clowdz Broz..." crowd that can be true as VG promotes ending vapor, where PG promotes throat hit as well as transports flavor. That Sub-box Nano, the tank itself with stock coils is designed for max juice thickness of 70VG/30PG, get higher VG you run into wicking issues and dry or burnt hits more often and burn out your coils quicker, though at the opposite end of the spectrum, max PG liquids are more likely to leak from a tank due to being quite thin, equal to water in viscosity. Most liquids unless designed for mainly dripping range in the 30PG/70VG to 70PG/30VG ranges due to limitations of wicking, the 30PG/70VG will be sweeter due to the VG content but also more expensive as to get to the amount of flavorings to get any flavor is higher with these compare to a 70PG/30VG less flavorings are needed, they have a stronger bite and produce less vapor compared to the 30PG/70VG liquid will give smoother vapor and more vapor. Only you and your flavor palette can determine this with experimenting and trail and error.

Getting hold of VG that is safe to vape is relatively easy, @Sir2fyablyNutz gave good places local to you to get it, you can also get it online, and if you are needing a cutting liquid you can get a 0mg liquid in what ever PG/VG ratio you want from 100PG/0VG to 0PG/100VG, as stated above this dilutes the flavor and the nicotine strength, example using a 50/50 mix 50% 12mg whatever flavor plus 50% 0mg VG will thicken the liquid up, dropping the nic level down to a 6mg (12+0/2=6). Good places to get these base unflavored liquids are pretty easy, Nude Nicotine, Mt Baker Vapor, Vista Vapor, Ecig Express all sell it, also places like Wizzard Labs and other DIY Mixing sites offer these liquids as well.

My PG/VG ratio is dependent mainly on a seasonal rotation, warmer months I use a higher VG content liquid, generally in the 30PG/70VG area, cooler months I use a 50/50 blend, heat thins liquid viscosity while cooler weather congeals it. There are flavored liquid brands I use that are high VG others are high PG or close to a 50/50, if I can't specify a ratio to the vendor, I take what their standard ratio is, Examples Reserved's Vapor Lock is a high VG liquid, I use this mainly for dripping, where the first liquid I ever bought that was a premium brand was Halo's Tribecca, a very thin liquid upward close to the 60PG/40VG to 70PG/30VG range, still one of my favorites and go to liquids to this day. I have since moved mainly to using unflavored liquids, though I still do vape on flavored liquids in my Subtanks and drippers, my other tanks are all unflavored, or I have diluted them down with unflavored, and I am moving into the DIY aspect using as minimal amount of flavoring as possible, some liquids anymore are just to strong in flavor for me and makes me a bit bleh after continual use, thus the move to DIY and unflavored. Flavors I do like are generally tobaccos, most fruits, especially honeydew, berries, pomegranate and a coffee here and there. Brands I do buy include Halo, Reserved, Loki Elixirs (Local to me), Space Jam (Eclipse only), NJoy (Hedon's Bite), Mt Baker Vapor, Vista Vapors, Heather's Heavenly Vapes, Indigo Vapors, and Nicoticket. Just remember, you don't have to follow the hype of everyone, some flavors/brands are hyped up a lot and turn out to be a big disappointment after it is all said and done, narrow in on you flavor profile, and stick with that, though your profile will change as you go longer and longer, your tastes return and change quite a lot.

g/l and welcome aboard this amusement ride =)

Grrr.......... Please don't listen to those people...

Unless you're allergic, a dripper or a super high-wattage vaper, you don't need/want high VG juices. I prefer 70/30 or 60/40 ratios--the best of both worlds and work in almost every atomizer, tank, carto out there.

1. Could I get flavorless 100% vg 0mg nicotine e juice and dilute my e juice? And what's the best way to do that?

Yes--if you feel that you need more VG in your juices. Start slowly--dilute your VG with a few drops of distilled water (you want ~8-18% water) and mix that with your a few mls of your juice.

2. Do you usually get max vg?

Never. I can't vape 100% VG to save my life.

3. What are your favorite e juice flavors or brands?

Not touching that one--taste is sooooooooooo subjective. Read our juice reviews forum--plenty of good informations there. I like unflavored, also. :D

I can't really add much to the great suggestions and advice already here in a general sense. As far as specifically with the subtank range (with the newer vertical coils you get in the kits) the 0.5 ohm stock coil head my experience has typically been that liquids thinner than 50/50 mix (more than 50% PG) have a tendency to leak because of the massive ports in the side for the liquid to reach the wicking. Your milage on that rough figure will vary a bit depending on environmental factors but keep it in mind as something to watch out for somewhere near that point. With the higher ohm coil options they are designed slightly differently and have restricted liquid flow with smaller openings and more cotton, they should work better with the thinner juices that you might want to experiment with and will work less well with any of the max VG types. As mentioned already they are worth playing around with to get a feel for different options, they will suit slightly different vaping styles. Typically with higher ohms then you would want to try less airflow, less watts, slightly thinner liquids, higher nicotine levels and try the opposite if moving towards lower ohms.

As for personal favourites, in my subtank I typically use either the 0.5 stock coil or the RBA section and I normally stick with liquids around 40p/60v - 30p/70v range, recently mainly liquids from Ruthless, Mr Good Vape, NJoy and Colonel Booms. With the 0.5 stock coil I tend to find these types of liquids are suit me with the air flow open wide and somewhere in the range 30-45 watts. Works for me, have fun tinkering and finding out what works best for you :)

You don't NEED max VG. You may just need a bit more time to adjust to vaping.

Frankly, I don't pay much attention to the VG/PG ratio of my juice. Vape 50/50 in my SubTank last night. No leaks. No issues. The thing to look for is added water. If water of some kind is listed in the ingredients, you don't want it in the new sub-ohm class tanks or a dripper. It'll pop and get spitty. Might leak too.

My favorite brands are: Seduce Juice, People's Vape (which is part of Seduce Juice), Johnson Creek, and Lock&Harbor

Are you experiencing a harsh throat hit? Does this come in toward the end of the draw or is it all the way through the draw?

Is the harsh hit coming from the juice you were given or the juice you purchased?
