After listening to and talking with MANY other vapers, I think it is up to us to educate the general populace.
vaping isn't really new, but is coming out of the closet so to speak.
We are also fighting with the big brother tobacco companies because we are taking their profits from them.

The more we bring vaping to the general public, the more it is going to be accepted as "normal".

Also my insurance company gives me a discount for NOT using tobacco products, so while they aren't actually covering my habit, the discount in rates helps to cover some of the cost.

I guess the bottom line for all of us is to learn as much as we can and tell as many people as we can about the benefits. The tobacco companies have very highly paid lobbyists to get what they want. Until we get to that point we have to be our own lobbyists.

So learn, pass the word and keep on vaping...

Boy to I wish they would include vaping in smoking cessation literature.
I know when I get my health insurance documents every year, they offer smoking cessation benefits.
If insurance companies will pay for Zyban, Wellbutrin, Chantix, counseling, etc - wouldn't it be in their interests to say that if the patient fails some number of smoking cessation techniques that they will cover some portion of an ecig?

OMG!

I had to look, but I thought it was there and it is. AnaCat there is a sub-forum for medical professionals here; http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/medical-professionals-private-forum/. It's private, by application to the admins only, but that may be where your answers lie if this thread is missed. Once you have 5 posts (and wait for the system update, an hour max) you can post anywhere on the forums. Then you can contact any of the moderators and ask what you need to do to get access.

I am curious why us plebs can't read this forum. I can understand why they wouldn't want a lot of people posting there but it seems odd that we can't read it.... like there is something they don't want us to see.

My doctor had not seen an Ecig until I carried mine in one day to a routine checkup. He asked some questions and I demonstrated it. After I explained the principles behind the Ecig and the contents of the juices, he researched the links I gave him and did some googling on his own. A couple of weeks later, he had pamphlets in his waiting room for smokers who wanted to quit that recommended trying electronic cigarettes as a substitute and a vehicle for quitting smoking.

Proplylene glycol is being used in hospital ventilation systems to capture germs and gravitate them to the floor. It seems that heavier than air PG droplets combine with contaminants in the air and settle them to the floor to be mopped up. Those sneeze droplets you would normally walk through unknowingly may be on the floor entrapped in PG by the time you get off the elevator!

PG is also used in breathing treatments to deliver medicines into the lungs in a fog. When you see fog during a breathing treatment, it's the same thing an Ecig produces.

I can see why doctors who check into electronic cigarettes usually end up discovering that they are much safer than tobacco and enthusiastically recommend them to patients who smoke. The quit rate, depending on who you listen to is 10 to 20 times higher than Nicorette.

Get some of the ECF free business cards. They tell about this forum and e-cigs without promoting one vendor. I am a Paramedic and our medical director hands out these cards all the time. After watching me and my family and friends quit smoking he is a believer.

I'm definitely going to do that. Thanks for the tip!

I'm also a nurse, I work on the oncology floor and the mental health floor...When people get the patch or gum they always have a comment about wanting a real analog...I simple tell them that I quit in January and I used an E-cig. Half are interested, the other half look at me like I'm crazy. The ones that are interested start asking questions, I just tell them to check out the internet (Particularly ECF :p ) I'm not prescribing, I'm continuing their education... and knowing is half the battle :D

Is your facility "vaper friendly", or are you shunned to a smoking area if you wanna hit your PV?

And yes, I think education is the key. Anytime something new comes out you're gonna have your negative group fighting it because they don't know what it is. Normally once people find out what we are doing they are OK with it. IMO...

I'm wondering if anyone here is a health professional and if you ever recommend vaping to your smoking patients. Could that be seen as unethical or practicing outside the scope of nursing (it will be a couple of years before I become a nurse practitioner and then it won't be an issue at all)? I think that it would be really beneficial, but I don't want to cross any lines.

I am not a healthcare professional, but an RN was the one who turned ME on to hers (V4L) - I saw her vaping away at her desk in the psych ward (I make pharm. deliveries there) where she works. Logically I wouldn't THINK that there are any lines to cross by suggesting an e-cig (but logic may not enter into it) as an alternative...
