Any negative effects with VG?

I've been reading great things about PG: it's FDA approved, used in asthma medication, and is itself an antimicrobial. My question, though, is what about the effects of VG? Are there any dangers? I just started vaping a few days ago, and I would like to try more VG (currently at 100% PG) in my juice, but I am honestly a bit reluctant because I haven't seen any information on its effects. Any and all insights are welcome, whether they be personal testimonies or empirical research.

VG and PG are both similar products and both can be found in the cigarettes that we all used to smoke everyday. Nothing that we inhale from vaping is foreign to tobacco cigarettes, so it's all stuff we've been inhaling for years (assuming you were a smoker before you started vaping).

Vg can be used to create Acrolein... which was used as a chemical weapon during WWI. It also used to be the main ingredient in antifreeze. Now it's commonly used in frosting or pastries or skin care.

PG is currently used in the "safe" antifreeze -- the kind where if your dog gets into it they won't be killed by it. These days it's commonly used in livestock care or nebulizer treatments.

BOTH are found in cigarettes.

fwiw: pg, vg, and ethylene glycol are all products of the same stuff, just manufactured differently -- a chemist could explain it better than me though...

This part is bit concerning "The Material Safety Data Sheet warns users to avoid skin contact with propylene glycol as this strong skin irritant can cause liver abnormalities and kidney damage."

And we are smoking it?

So don't. But as Rosa pointed out, you can go back to tobacco and get your fix of PG, VG and lots of other stuff that does cause cancer. Your choice, it's a free country ( well ours is for the time being).

I didn't read that anywhere in the MSDS.

No need to get defensive just pointing out what was in the link posted above. Of course smoking cigarettes isn't an option. Watched my best friend die of lung cancer not a pretty sight. No sign of them banning E cigs here yet so I guess i will crack on :)

Considering PG is in woman's makeup I just cant see it being to harmful hitting the skin or we would have women dropping like fly's ! no pun intended of course

In my personal experience, it seems I get more "stuff" flowing out of my lungs and into my sinuses the more VG I use.
It may just be me though, as I have never seen it mentioned by anyone else.

After about a month in I found PG to be a bit too much. I had leg cramps & extreme dry mouth/throat. I've settled at about a 20% PG level which is tolerable. I'm with DC2 about the stuff, but compared with muscle cramps waking you up in the middle of the night, yeah.

What is this "stuff" you're referring to?
(P.S. modistru Porcupine Tree, nice!)

I vape all VG or 70vg Min,,, sometimes it gives me some heartburn type effect when I really go overboard vaping like a freight train (everyday) but only once in a while do I get this feeling, it effects me much less than PG, I guess everyone is of a different makeup so it will effect everyone different, but I love my VG

People can make anything sound toxic, did you see this one yet? This site is devoted to banning Dihydrogen Monoxide (water).

Facts About Dihydrogen Monoxide

quote:

"The atomic components of DHMO are found in a number of caustic, explosive and poisonous compounds such as Sulfuric Acid, Nitroglycerine and Ethyl Alcohol."

It's just so crazy to see what side of the PG/VG fence folks are on, but this is the first time I've seen anyone question VG over PG in a negative fashion concerning health risks...kinda cool!

I'm mostly a PG-free vaper, but mostly because the friend who got me into it is allergic to PG (it makes him itch). Both VG and PG are usually USP food grade products, suitable for human consumption.
