It's a stacked battery device..because it has 2 batteries and uses step down it is easy to have a high amp limit. With the other tube with single batteries when boosting voltage you have to consider amp drain on the battery when it's at it's lowest charge when it's set to it's highest voltage.

If my thinking is correct a 2.5a output limit with the battery at 3v and the device set to 6v would double the drain on the battery to 5a (plus any inefficiency of a few percent) and a 3.5a output low volts set on highest at 7a. With stacked batteries you double the amp limit you can pull from them by stacking.

I think the single battery VV tubes are being a little on the safe side as they probably could pull 4a without coming close to the limit of IMR's..AW's are rated about 10a continuous draw but we don't continually draw from batteries. Also from some research the Sanyo Batteries (if they are Sanyo and they look identical to them) that come with most LT kit's have at least a 15a continuous draw capacity..some battery sellers say the Sanyo IMR have a 20a continuous draw capacity.

If it sells inexpensively it could be a decent device..it should be "coming to a retailer near you in the near future" but I will wait and see how it works out. You probably will see a lot more VV devices this year :)

This Smoktech VV is called VMax.

-2x18350 IMR
-5 amps output limit
-3-6V in .01 increments on 3 digit display
-display fuctions: on-off safety, load resistance (ohms), voltage up or down, battery voltage, atomizer/carto output voltage, LED light off/on, shorted load indicator
-low battery indicator
-brass build painted black or sliver
-Smoktech states they will not offer Vmax to vendors that sell it for less than $128.

Vmax doesn't look like it will meet proposed EMSS rules.

$128 if it's true doubt they will sell many..of course the LT sold for $100 not long ago and you can get them as low as $40 now for just the tube...

Where they are selling them? Cool. Looks really really interesting.
These sites have VMax on the waiting list.

99 Euros is $130 US.
Smoktech VMax - VariVolt Akkuträger bestellen | keine Lavatube / EpicStorm -- Shop für elektrische Zigaretten - Vaping Paradise

$100 Australian is $103 US.
GG ECIGS AUSTRALIA - SmokTech VMAX Inc. AW Battery Pair - Black (PRE-ORDER SPECIAL)

Disclaimer: I haven't dealt with either of these vendors so I can't recommend either. These sites just came up as Google search results for VMax.

I'm very interested in the Smoktech approach to VV because I use one of their APVs. I know that Smoktech wants to push their dual coil cartos. However, I have no interest in VV for my own use. If I was interested in VV I'd want the safety of a voltage boosted single cell design.

I can go hotter than I want with the E-Power 14650 running a 1.7 ohm LR XL single coil carto. The 2.0 ohm LR XL is right at my sweet spot. I'm not bothered the slight fall-off from this regulated APV as the battery drains from 4.15V or so to 3.5V or even 3.2V at the lowest. My juices and gear are right where I want them now.

So, for under $100 I have a very reliable APV that I like with E-Power 14650. I fact, I have three of them (two more built inexpensively from parts) for less $100. I'm covered for back-ups. Add to this I have the safety of a single cell design and enough batteries to last me a week between battery charging.
