Hello!

I recently started using snus, to go along with vaping. It does seem to be "killing cravings" (from analogs) more then vaping alone. I'm just looking for a little extra motivation to keep me on the right track to completely quit analogs! Would love to hear any success stories that any of you may have as far as using this same method to stop smoking. Thanks for your time!

Glad the snus is doing it's job for ya Laguna. Without getting too long winded on the details, I quit the smokes 2 days after I started vaping. I did ok for around the 1st month, other than using extremely high mg nic and never having a waking moment that I didn't have my PV stuck in my gob. As the weeks passed I started to crave in the most intense way, maddening. I also developed depression and my anxiety level was through the roof. I'd seen many postings of Tropical Bob regarding Swedish snus and Stubby kept bringing the topic up in a thread I was very active in at the time. Then my good forum friend, olderthandirt, who was in the same boat and having an occasional smoke to keep his lid on, started using snus. After seeing that it made quite a difference for him, plus allowing him to finally stop all cigarettes, I hesitantly followed his lead. I really didn't think it'd work and I wasn't really interested in using smokeless tobacco, but my only other options for sanity was go back to the smokes or use prescription antidepressants. I'm happy I tried it. After some time I even stopped vaping and now only use snus. Pretty effective for a guy who loved smoking. After finding how well it worked my next mission was to take a good look at how safe it really is. Study after un-biased study all conclude Swedish snus is as safe as any food I eat, and safer than a lot of those even. Stick with it, use what you need and live happily ever after :).

Yeah, the salt takes some getting use to.

The Thunder line is all low salt:
Frosted is spearmint
Berry Blend is strawberry-ish
Wintergreen
Original is mild tobacco
All Thunder snus is 16mg nic except the mini's, which are 8mg

Ettan Original and white portions are low salt, mild 'baccy, 8mg

Lab 01 and 02 are medium salt, mild 'baccy. 01 is 8mg, 02 is 13mg

Grovsnus Original and Svart (Black) is a rich tobacco flavor with medium salt.

All Skurf snus is low salt, mild 'baccy and rose oil (and supposedly bergamot, but I don't taste it in the ES). Skurf is 8mg, Skurf Stark is 14mg and Skurf Xtra Stark is 17 or 18mg.

All Oden snus is low salt.
Original is mild tobacco, 8mg
Kanel tastes like a mild cinnamon tea, 8mg
Licorice, 8mg
These are also available in 17mg portions

General Mint is peppermint, 8mg

These are the ones I have in my stash that are low and medium salt. There are others and sooner or later Stubby will come along and add to 'em. Some that I would presume to be low salt may not be, so I'll stick with what I know. I hope this helps to guide you in ordering :).

I wouldn't worry to much about the salt thing. You'll get used to it in a few weeks. I couldn't even tell you which snus is low salt as I really don't taste it anymore. Certainly the flavored snus is going to taste less salty. If you're using General snus that one is considered on the salty side. I see Twisted put together a list so that's a good place to start.

As far as success stories Twisted has me beat on the PV thing as I couldn't even get so far as quitting cigarettes with a PV. Will power really isn't a big word in my vocabulary. A few days after I started using snus I did quit smoking. Well... I should qualify that and say after I started using Swedish snus. Big difference for me from the camel snus.

Wasn't long after that I retired the PV and haven't touched it in a long time. I seem to get bad reactions to the purified type nicotine used in e-liquid. I would suggest reading some of DVap's blogs to get some idea of what's going on with nicotine. There's more going with tobacco then just nicotine

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/blogs/dvap/423-whole-tobacco-alkaloid-e-liquid.html

The type of nicotine found in snus and other whole tobacco products is a good deal more satisfying and robust then that in a PV... at least for me and others for whom the PV failed in the long run. I do a bit of nasal snuff but I couldn't depend on it for my only source, though a few people do.

    Somewhere between here and there
I slowly tapered down on smoking while vaping and after I few months was able to vape only for about 8-9 weeks. It was at that point that I started into what I believe is the beginning of depression no matter how much I vaped. I even started to smoke some again to take the edge off. It was then that I put out a cry for help in the general forum. I was lucky enough that TB,TV, Stubby, OTD and a few others saw my post and offered a helping hand. I am thankful for that. I bought a can of camel frost to try and withing fifteen minutes of my first portion, I felt the effect. The nicotine was not strong enough but the old me feeling had returned. I have been snusing ever since. I was a hold out on the snuff for quite some time but finally decided to try some. I do snuff some but the snus is the thing that keeps me level.

Im another one the black cat,Stubby converted. I was using 3mls a day and sill not satisifyed. I started with camel as well and then switched to Swedish snus and have been happy ever since. I vape once a while, and like to snuff on occasion but snus is my main stay and I love the stuff.

One of things I really like is no inconsistant hits, no atty probs, no charging batts, no mods.

For less salt try Ettan, or mini mints, or LD black if you like liquorice.

I quit analogs and started vaping heavily oct 26 09. I vaped fairly happily until january EXCEPT I had LOTS of anxiety and a huge case of the stupids (spacing out, feeling like I had A.D.D. etc) I happened across a thread here where one of the members made the statement that they weren't interested in getting off of nicotine...it had never even occured to me that could be an option. The more I thought about it and researched it, the more I realized that I had been unconsciously treating anxiety with nicotine the 12 years that I had smoked. I then learned that there was more to tobacco addiction than nicotine. I had to stop vaping in January so I drove to a convenience store and picked up some camel snus (after reading posts by TV, OTD, and co.). The next day I made my first swedish snus order and I have not looked back. Sometimes I have the odd random thought that it would be nice to smoke, but snus keeps me from actually doing it. I now can have my tobacco habit for about $5 dollars a week instead of the $40 I was spending on analogs. Also, the 'stupids' and anxiety are LONG GONE!

Like most others I'm a refugee from the "proper" side of the tracks... happily snusing and doing my research and reading on snuff before making the jump into yet another new hobby.

My story is a common one here... Boy meets PV, boy likes PV, but PV is not enough, so I shacked up with that harlot snus on the side and now everyone is mostly happy. I still have a nagging craving for a cig from time to time, but when once comes along I just have one or two, feed the beast, and realize that over time the snus is winning. I'm not going to be one of those lucky ones who lays 'em down and walks away for life and I'm ok admitting that here. We're among friends. All I know for sure is life is a heckofalot better with snus than without it. Try everything and you're bound to find something... or alot of somethings that you love!

Yep. It's not all roses. I have times when a crave a smoke, but that's when I up the frequency of my snus. Yesterday was like that so I used 3 Oden ES in about 2 hours....very rare since 1 is usually good for 2 hours. It'll probably always be that way to some degree. As a smoker I normally smoked 1 1/2 to 2 packs a day. On stressful days the sky was the limit. I need heavy doses of maoi, that's the way I was and will always be. Snus allows me to dose with a natural antidepressant/anti-anxiety drug as needed and that's what I do.

    I'll join the chorus line.
I started vaping April of last year couldn't, quite get away from that 1 or 2 smokes a week. And that was averaging 4 to 5 ml of 36mg every day.
Every time I tried to cut the nic down I'd get hit hard with all the withdrawal symptoms of lack of concentration, irritability, an increase in memory dis-function.
Started using snus mid Oct.09 and in a very short time my niquid usage dropped to around 1.5ml a day with none of the adverse symptoms.

Added snuff to the line-up in November and as of now, if I vape more than 0.5ml in a day that's unusual.

    Luck

That's great Laguna. It's hard to believe the difference snus make until you've tried it. Sorta like the lights coming on.

Any information on where to buy decent Swedish Snus?

I'm a noob, too, so can someone clarify exactly what Swedish 'snus' is to me? I've had 'snus' in Switzerland, which is snorted. I've seen the Camel Snus in gas stations (US), which is stuck in the top lip and doesn't require spitting. Then you have snuff which, to me, is chewing tobacco. I take it Swedish Snus is like the Camel version in America?
