I think the heat & sun is a lot of it because I've been doing a lot of outdoor stuff and I'm sensitive to the sun in the first place. I'm taking the weekend off so my head can calm down. The pain killers did do wonders last night though.

The one thing I have noticed is since I gave up smoking, I don't get terrible ones very often. In fact, this is the worst one I've had---I can handle the small ones but I didn't miss the bad ones at all.

YES! Mine are usually triggered by an allergy attack that gets out of hand. Sometimes just out of the blue. my mother has them very severly. What helps with mine when I don't have any Rx pain meds are: 1 BC arthritis strength, 800mg ibuprophin, 100mg benedryl. Go to bed in a dark, cool, Quiet room with an ice pack to the base of the skull and a cold cloth over my eyes. then I just pray it goes away..... Always feels like I've been beaten up after it's over, like if I move too suddenly I will shatter. I hate it!

My oldest girl is 13. She has been getting headaches pretty frequently for a while now. Lately they have turned into migrains, getting worse and worse almost every day. Last night was the worst yet. This is the same kid who walked aboud for a day and a half with a broken bone in her foot before complaining because she couldn't get her shoe on. Last night after taking a BC and ibuprophin, she had been laying down in the dark when she started crying and wanting her mama. I took her to the ER. She had a CAT scan, came back ok, Thankfully. She's had blood tests run lately too. Don't know what is causing the pain, but it's not a tumor, lesion or bleed.

This week has been hell on wheels and it's still going. I'm up, I'm down---kinda of goes with how RW is doing, surprise surprise.
Got one in the making so don't hold my question against me cause the brain isn't working to well right at this moment. What is BC?
Just popped a Tylenol 3 so things should be improving in a minute!!!

no, you get it where you get other asprin products. It comes in a box filled with little envelops of the meds. I used to take asprin and then some espresso or coke or mt dew, but this is easier to have on hand. My migraine formula is to take a BC and 800mg ibupropin and go to bed with an ice pack at the base of my skull and a cold cloth over my eyes. I'd rather have the tylenol 3, but sometimes you gotta do with what you have. Caffiene and asprin are in most of the OTC migraine meds. It dosen't wire you up, just helps it stop hurting so much.

I have had migraines all my life. that got real bad when I was 14 then I learned to control them a bit and the last 3 years they have been almost every day to some degree.I never saw a doctor about them till 1 1/2 years ago and have been on several diff meds incl topomax which was slowly killing me from the weight loss.

my triggers
caffeine
stress
heat
too much light
too little light while watching tv
not enough sleep
pms
cigarettes ( one reason I jumped on e cigs when I discovered them)

and just bc it decides to

most of them start in my sleep and either wake me up or seep into my dreams and keep me from being able to wake up at all. I am so sick of the being shot in the back of the head nightmare I have when I get a migraine.

RD, did you have any explosions near you while there? The concussion from those can cause a type of 'hidden' brain injury that is not readily apparent at the time, resulting in these type of migraines. I'd go get it checked out after doing some online research. The VA should be able to help you and possibly disability pay as well. It's well worth it to persue it with a neurologist that has some understanding of war injuries. Hang in there!

BC headache powder. It's asprin & caffeine in a powder form so it works quickly. Tastes like powdered asprin too. YICK! Pretty darn effective though, esp for beginning migraines when you don't have any Rx pain meds. Hope yours goes away and stays away!

I've pretty much sworn off of posting lately but feeling the need here for fellow migraine sufferers. If Goody powders work for you, you might want to try extra-strength Excedrin. They have aspirin, caffeine, and acetaminophen and work better than any other OTC med I've tried. It's been awhile since I checked but unless they've changed the formula they have the exact same ingredients and mg-strength that Excedrin Migraine does and at a fraction of the cost. In fact, if you get the Wal-Mart Equate brand, they usually have the "buy one, get one free" double packs for $3+. (Crawling back to my hole now...)
