Why is it not good to "deform" the filler material when you're filling, such as by pushing against it with a paperclip or whatever? I always do kind of push it away from the inside of the cartridge with the paperclip, when I've tried that. Is this causing it to be less efficient? kathy
Hi Kathy,
I found that after I put that little straw down into the side edge of the cart, I didn't have to touch the filling with anything at all, all day long. At the end of the day, it looked just about as fresh as it did at the beginning of the day. It wasn't squished up at all, and since I wasn't messing with the filling with a paper clip (to try and squeeze out air bubbles or drip juice down the side), the bit of glue that they put at the bottom and the side all held up, so that the filling was still distributed throughout the cart, and not at all compacted. It worked as well at the end of the day as it did when I put a fresh one in that morning, and it was nice that I didn't have to top it off as often, since I could get more juice in there.
As you know, the first drop that you put in a fresh cart sits on the top for a couple of seconds, and then it soaks down. I cut the hollow cotton swab "straw" so that it went right to the bottom of the cart (I did use a paper clip to push the dry filling away from the edge, so I could get the straw down into the corner), and was about 1/16" below the top edge of the cart. That ended up to be 1" for a blank DSE801 penstyle cart. After that first drop soaked in, I was able to just drip/drop away into the top of the cart, until it soaked from the bottom up to the top. You can see when it's about to start pooling on top, and then stop. For top-offs, just drip away into the top of the cart again.
My personal vaporizer - or whatever you want to call them - worked better than it ever had, and I was able to put more juice into it, and since the straw allows the air to escape from the bottom up, there are no air bubbles in the filling. I never had nic-juice in my mouth all day either. I did still use a tissue to wipe off the outside of the cart whenever I re-filled it; but I wasn't using tissues and paper towels, and having to wash the juice off of my fingers every time. And the other plus for me, was not having to use a syringe ... I poked myself one day when I had a syringe in my hand (with no cap), and I was trying to pop the top off of a plastic bottle to add a little something to my menthol mix. When the top popped, my hand jerked. Ugh. A straw - whether you use a hollow coffee stirrer, or whatever - is cheaper and more disposable than a syringe, and you don't have to clean it (I'm lazy).
Yep ... if you ask me what time it is, I'll tell you how to build the clock. Try it - you'll like how great it works, too. I moved my straw the next morning to a fresh cart (I start with a fresh cart each morning for the main flavor that I use), and cut enough so I had a straw for each flavor that I use.
Thanks for the tip! Sorry - I don't remember who the original poster was now, but I'm going to go back and look.
