OK. I've been struggling with this concept for days now. Help.
How is what is described here different than opening the tank and adding juice? The vacuum will be released either way, no?

BTW, I have been enjoying the sucking and fluttering method. That works.
OK, I'll give this one the old schoolgirl try

By unscrewing the tank a turn or so, ( remember, the o-rings still keep the seal) the volume on the inside of the tank is increased. This increase in volume results in a lower pressure inside of the tank causing the air to flow through the coil to equalize this pressure difference. Then by reversing the procedure and screwing the tank back together, the volume inside the tank is decreased which in turn increases the pressure inside the tank, causing the juice to be forced into the coil to equalize the pressure.

...Maybe someday I'll be looking at a huge pile of coils without any way to sell them off asking myself what in the aich-eeee-double hockey sticks did I hoard all these things for
To PIF them all to a vaping buddy that is running out?

If that time ever comes, I sincerely hope that it would be a viable option to do that very thing. I would rather give something of use away to someone than see it go to waste. I have a funny feeling that a lot of the stockpiles out there will eventually wind up in part, in smokers hands, as well wishers who found there way away from tobacco try to help others along a similar path...

YES !!! - The vacuum is released either way

Thinking of it as a vacuum is misleading. It is just a build up of low pressure within the tank as the juice level gets used up (vaped)

next time you vape, the low pressure created under the coil (from the faster moving air), MAY NOT be sufficient to create a pressure difference - so now no juice flows to re-wick the coil

Doing the fluttering thing - this creates EXTRA low pressure under the coil, so it wicks and eventually the cotton seal will break and air flows back into the tank, releasing the Low Pressure !!!!

Or of course, just unscrewing the tank a couple of turns also breaks the tank seal

With the Kabuki - no need to invert, just hold the top of the tank and unscrew a couple of turns until you see air bubble up through. I keep my just off tight to allow this to be done often.

Here are some pics:

HowTaksWork-Combined_zps5yvn9rvq.jpg

It is the recovery phase that is not working well on most tanks - usually too much cotton, to avoid leaks from the manufacturer in the equal phase (....e tank - it leaks !!!!!)

So in Stalled Phase normal vaping won't create sufficient pressure difference to allow wicking !!!

I hope this helps :)

Hey, I just spent the last two hours watching the interview with Zen and I thoroughly enjoyed it. :pop: Thank you for bringing it to our attention and providing the link. :thumb: I am thoroughly proud of the fact that between the two of us, Jackie and I own 9 Kabuki's. Watching that interview makes me want a belt.

You gentlemen just don't understand. The ClassyOne is playing in Fall leaves, and the KD is batting eyelashes.

What.
Ahh. The eyelashes.
Sucking and fluttering method, eh?
It was new to me. Yet, I wish I'd learned of it long ago.

...turns around and leaves
Please don't go.

Am I in the right place?

Don't get me wrong, I'm STAYING, but AM I in the right place?:)

Sorry.
If you're uncertain, then yes you're in the wrong place.

You'll be back...
LOL and waddya know mate, here I am.

First I wanna say I'm loving my kayfun 5 clone, but its been constantly bugging me that I've had such a bad experience with the kabuki so I dug it out of the mothballs cuppla days ago, chucked another new coil in it, and screwed the air flow right in to MTL level restriction.
Retaught myself to vape MTL (which is how I started on evods) and to my surprise, and delight, I haven't had a single burnt tasting hit since.

I have however noticed that to keep the flavour up and consistent I need to regularly block the air flow hole completely with my finger and give it a decent suck without firing which appears to keep the wick saturated enough to avoid the possibility of a burnt hit.

Just an FYI I mix my own juice which is 50/50 PG VG so its not overly thick..or thin.
But I personally think the tiny wicking holes in the BVC coils are simply not able to "keep up" and this is more than likely the cause of my burnt tasting hits, combined with my direct lung vaping style.

So happy days again with the kabuki...but its got my wallet doing backflips in my pocket as I'm now considering another mod purchase for it to live on..maybe a noice Provari radius as I've quickly become a one eyed Provari "fanboy" LOL

I'd bet that you ran into a bad box of coils. It's something I started seeing in the last year or so. It doesn't happen often but it's a change from when the Nautilus was new and the coils were all good. I've had the "impossible to prime" coils as you describe, but more often coils that simply have a cotton taste throughout their life. When they're right, the coils should have no problem whatsoever handling your juice without any need to continually prime - which is what you're doing when you cover the air hole.

I realize the coils may be a lot more expensive where you are, but I'd strongly recommend getting another couple of boxes. If you bought your existing ones from a B&M I wouldn't buy from there again for a while. It seems to me that you would have a very good chance of getting coils from the same bad batch. I'm guessing the bad lots I've had were due to getting damp at one time, out-of-spec cotton, or having the cotton packed too tight.

It's a real irritation but the performance of a properly working Kabuki is worth it.

My first thought was, Does he pull on his Kabuki like he is trying to suck-start a 747? :D
