A couple brought their 1+ year old lab in because it got a hold of a bottle of e-liquid. She brought in the remains of the box/bottle and showed her ego style bat/clearomizer.

Doc calmly determined the mg/ml and along with the size of the dog (85+lbs) and said even though animals will absorb it mucosally, that along with some charcoal and buttered toast it should pass the system. Size was clearly on this dogs side.

He said maybe she should give up smoking...she said that's what this was all for, in the closing comments at the end, they said she'd given up the c-cig...

Nice to know that he didn't immediately jump on them over this, it could have ended much differently.
I like to think that my vet is of like minds with Doc Pol :)

Yes, the dog's owner should have kept her juice out of reach, but that's common sense (unfortunately not as common as it should be) and I'm sure is a great debate for another thread ;-)

I do like that the vet didn't have an alarmist reaction and took a calmly realistic approach. His reaction may have been different with a larger bottle or higher strength, but it sounds like he handled it quite professionally and appropriately in this case :) Now if only our human doctors could be as reasonable as our pet doctors . . .

Obviously a new person to vaping and didn't take the precaution of putting away her juice where children and pets can't get to them. She really needed to come here to ECF to learn a whole lot more.
Sorry, but I have no doubt that even those who are not new to vaping can forget or overlook something. Whether it is a new vaper, or seasoned veteran, the reality of life dictates that people make mistakes.

Any quick glance at any ER statistic will make it blatantly clear that - among the myriad of ways people hurt themselves or allow for their children or pets to get hurt - vaping isn't even worthy of a footnote.

How many children end up in the ER each and every day with problems caused by flashy detergent pods? Don't have the exact number ATM, but the answer is 'several'.

There is a commercial here that the Makers of Tide pods show kind of giving a warning about this potential pod eating thing.

Seems very odd to me.. First off... After the first bite I am sure it would taste like soap.. ICK!!
Secondly... Only a young toddler would even attempt such a thing and they are not tall enough to reach to top of the washer or shelf above where most people keep such things. It really perplexes me that such a warning is even needed.

I think that keeping e-liquids out of reach is the same as keeping lighters, matches and analogs out of reach.
Right along with house hold cleaners.

I'm guessing this is some sort of vet show? I don't catch much television, honestly.

Not the point of this post at all...does coming here mean everyone on the forum is more responsible?

Interesting question. I don't think it's a hard and fast rule, but I would say that the majority come here to learn, and I think that's a good thing. Whether that leads to being more responsible I can't say, but hopefully some put that knowledge to good use.

Accidents and life happen, calm heads prevailed and fortunately for all everything was ok.

That's always a good thing, I think.

Automobile Anti-freeze contains ethel glycol which happens to be a deadly poison to dogs--and for some strange reason dogs like the taste of it. Also it doesn't take much to kill even a rather large dog. I know of cases where a leaking radiator on a concrete driveway caused some dogs to poison themselves by licking it up.

I understand the concern--e-liquid is not the same--but it needs to be kept out of the reach of small children and dogs.

I was taught as a small child not to eat the yellow snow and treat most unknown substinances the same way--warning label or no

That's good to know..and while we're out of the children business..we do have dogs, precocious Mastiff puppies, and they're out of that grab anything and chew phase, it's good to know the pup was fine, because stuff happens, that's life.

it's another reason we keep all the juices in the fridge a latched box, or in the caddies their heads are at eye level with the table, although a "NO ZONE" stuff could happen I guess but it's a couple bottles each/tanks and all in glass.

Ethylene glycol has a sweet taste - and kids will drink it, too, not just pets.
