No. I started vaping because I was a long time smoker, was addicted to smoking and couldn't quit. Tried and couldn't quit by conventional methods and vaping has been a life saver for me.

I can't imagine in a million years wanting to vape if I didn't smoke, but I'm not you. No way would I buy kits and pvs, make wicks, fill cartos, charge batteries, turn my office into a lab to make liquid for the heck of it. I'd buy myself a pair of shoes and thank my lucky stars that I wasn't one of the idiots that started smoking when I was 15. But I'm not you.

Yeah.

Here I am, middle aged now, having become enamored with New Zealand and wishing I could take a trip but unable to afford it. And thinking about all that money I smoked away...

Sigh.

My wife who also did drugs in her youth has said many times that cigarettes are harder to kick that drugs.

Well, there are those gene things in the mix. Some folk can do what you did. Back away from nicotine without much trouble. Others, it's a very, very strong addiction. And you don't know how addicted you'll become until you become addicted. At which point, it's a tad late in the game.

Yeah I think for some percentage of us, it's on that scale. I know times money was tight when I was, oh, college age and such, I would get the impulse to steal like some street drug addict. Rattled me to find that kind of thing in myself. Never did but I can't honestly say I wouldn't have if it had come to that.

On the other hand, I have met people who used hard drugs recreationally and more or less walked away from them. Something the "drug warrior" types say can't happen. Addiction is just... complex stuff. And variable. Highly variable.

Heh, I've sometimes thought it would be fun to swap out the coffee at meetings of the rabidly anti-nicotine types that are bent on banning e-cigs (etc.). Substitute decaf across the board.

See how many of them go into severe caffeine withdrawal.

Hah!

(When I was much, much younger, I thought addiction to caffeine was a joke people made. I like my coffee but if I get up in the morning and find I forgot to pick some up, I just grumble at myself for forgetting. I don't have that addiction. Despite being a big time coffee drinker for decades now. But I've seen people who have actual, serious withdrawal if they don't get their caffeine. It's surprisingly bad. I wonder, at times, if it's not up around the level of nicotine addiction.)

At 30 years old, I've never really smoked anything other than a handful of cigarettes over the span of my entire life, so starting now feels a bit weird to me. I decided to purchase an e-cig and some 0mg juices today after taking a hit from a friend's e-cig last night. The flavor was great, and I found it intriguing. I haven't really used mine yet, because the battery needed charging out of the box but, from the few hits I took, I found it to be very enjoyable.

Has anyone else gone straight to vaping without any prior smoking history? Am I foolish for doing so? I understand there are no proven risks to it, but while the juices say 0mg, the bottles also state that it contains nicotine. I'm assuming it's too small of an amount to become addicted to, but I'm still sort of afraid of becoming dependent on anything even if only because it tastes good and is fun.

Anyway, I'm still in the midst of doing research and learning about everything, but any words (of encouragement or otherwise) would be appreciated.

So its been a lil over a week, how have you been enjoying it? I myself in same boat as you, never smoked cigs, but have been around smokers and weed smokers, of the two i always enjoyed being around week smokers more other then being illegal, it always smelled better, I am very stressed out and thought maybe this might be a stress remover but I am going to try 0 nic if i do it. so did you just buy some pre mixed juice with 0 nic? is that all you needed or did you mix it with vg or pg? Thanks

I smoked cigars for about 2 years in college, which was over a decade ago, so I consider myself a "non-smoker". I saw that cigars are banned pretty much everywhere you can typically smoke, so it's kind of pointless to start back up.

Now that vaping is picking up popularity, I can find a lot of tasty tobacco flavors and I've yet to go to a bar that has banned vaping.

Just started camping a week ago after smoking for 17yrs. I have tried a couple of analogs with no success. Got my first APV and haven't looked back. I can breath better, my clothes smell better, I don't have to worry about 2nd hand smoke around my kids when we are outside. It's great I love it and wish I would have found it sooner. I was told by a long time vapor that turned me on to this to get a juice that tastes like what you have always smoked I.E. cigarette, something you really like to Vape, and something new to try for the week/month. For the 1st week keep an "In Case of Emergency" stash. For stressful situations or some people have stomach nausea the first week or so. And just dive in!!

I smoked for 13 years and vaping has been amazing in helping me. Honestly though, I think it's ok for you to start vaping. Looking back, I have no real clue why I started smoking but I can think of reasons to vape even without the need to quit smoking.

I have a friend of about 15 years who spent his whole life of the opinion that smoking was disgusting. He now vapes 0mg just to wind down now and then. He's heard everything I tell our other friends who smoke, several of whom now vape instead, so he made a certainly well informed decision. As long as you understand what you're doing, it's your choice.
