I have always said that the anti-bacterial stuff was bad. Soap on it's own is anti-bacterial, but doesn't kill everything. The germ-a-phobes are always spraying the air, their hands, and other stuff with the anti-bacterial stuff and seem to get sick all the time. Like stated above it's like the immune system goes into hibernation mode.

I did general contracting and landscaping when I was younger. Didn't always have a place to wash your hands before eating or having a cig. Just pour some water on your hands to wash the dirt off (wouldn't kill germs) but everyone seemed to get sick less than the folks who were germ-a-phobes with the hand sanitizers.

It's like those guys that handle the poisonous snakes. Being exposed to little bits of poison over time they can survive being bit and getting a bit dose.

At least for me when I start running a fever I let it run for a day or two. Most people go running for a bottle of aspirin to reduce the fever. That's the worst thing to do (unless it is a high fever), a fever is the body's natural way of fighting off an infection.

The problem with anti-bacterials is that they kill off everything but the germs and bacteria that are resistant to them (this is why they can only claim to be 99.9% effective, not 100%). The resistant bacteria are then free to multiply at will. It's natural selection at work.

I haven't noticed myself getting sick more often since vaping, but my daughter started daycare this year, and I was sick the whole month of November. That sucked.

Wonder when the super strep and mersa came ravishing around.... seem about or after all the anti-bacterial craze.

Kids and day care/starting school, it's like having a biological warfare experiment going on. Luckily stuff like HIV. Marburg, and the other nasty infections/viri die quickly outside of the body but the cold and flue bugs can life on things like door knobs for hours after being touched.
